2017-01-17 07:02:56 PM jodie583 hi sandi
2017-01-17 07:02:56 PM kathybrosrt Hi Sandi
2017-01-17 07:02:56 PM mzonneville WE have a volunteer that comes in and does the reading,
2017-01-17 07:03:00 PM debra our pastor incorporates a memorial service in our Bible study. weve also done three large services with families and friends. residents really appreciate being part of it.
2017-01-17 07:03:15 PM wendy5 we had a non entertainment birthday party and the residents loved being together visiting whew!
2017-01-17 07:03:20 PM akoppel the memorial service sounds like a really good idea

2017-01-17 07:04:02 PM debra kathybrosrt i like the memorial day idea!
2017-01-17 07:04:03 PM marissavega1274 activities are also the ones who print out pics for the services
2017-01-17 07:04:04 PM kerilforgues Welcome Leslie
2017-01-17 07:04:05 PM sandi The services make my residents very sad
2017-01-17 07:04:06 PM jsutherland our facility doesnt allow anything to do with death in the facility
2017-01-17 07:04:08 PM kathybrosrt One of the things I noticed when I put the memorial banner up is the residents going to gether and reminisicing about the person that passed
2017-01-17 07:04:11 PM kathyhughes talk to the resident and see what they want to do
2017-01-17 07:04:16 PM jodie583 When we did a memorial service, we gave out flowers - residents could help with this easily - gave the flower to a family representative that came forward when their name was called
2017-01-17 07:04:26 PM samanthaculver i have a johova (sp) witness couple and they dont celebrate birthdays i keep forgetting that
2017-01-17 07:04:28 PM 123504147 Memorial services are really important to our long term residents. I have reached out to our local hospice company and they have a spiritual leader that helps me with all my memorial services.
2017-01-17 07:04:43 PM kathybrosrt Thats cool 123
2017-01-17 07:04:45 PM chriswills cynthia: do for them as in what? activity or religious service?
2017-01-17 07:04:46 PM akoppel that's a shame jsuther, it's a part of life
2017-01-17 07:04:46 PM kathyhughes We also had guest books that residents and staff would sign for the resident that passed and we would send it to their family
2017-01-17 07:04:51 PM marissavega1274 hospice is great
2017-01-17 07:04:52 PM denisewiit hospice is a wonderful help
2017-01-17 07:04:53 PM jodie583 kathybrosrt: I like the banner idea - wish we had a separate place for them to go for "quiet time"
2017-01-17 07:04:58 PM samanthaculver like the guest book
2017-01-17 07:05:01 PM rebeccal we do something like that Kathy

2017-01-17 07:05:11 PM jodie583 Guest Books - wow -
2017-01-17 07:05:13 PM kristina88 i love the guest book idea
2017-01-17 07:05:17 PM rebeccal we print out the obituary and have residents sign a booklet to give to the families
2017-01-17 07:05:18 PM conniew Our pastor that does a service each week incorporates any losses/deaths into the weekly service. The patients that knew the ones who passed appreciate the ability to share and be comforted in this type of setting. The pastor does a good job with this even if he did not know the one who passed.
2017-01-17 07:05:21 PM kathybrosrt lol feels like I'm talking to myself when I write Kathy :P
2017-01-17 07:05:21 PM amberrwetherill Two of our hospice venders are amazing and help with activities and the residents so much.
2017-01-17 07:05:26 PM sandi Our hospice does ours
2017-01-17 07:05:28 PM lesliepope I love the memorial idea. I have never thought of the need for closure that some residents may need after becoming friends with the other residetns they have lived with for possibly years!
2017-01-17 07:05:36 PM chriswills i studied buddhism for a few years under a monk, i might be able to help
2017-01-17 07:05:36 PM chantelleb88 every thursday a group of volunteers come and play the piano and we sing old hymes
2017-01-17 07:05:37 PM kathyhughes Thanks Kathy
2017-01-17 07:05:42 PM janicelawrence6 we serve cookies and coffe at memorials. Usaully in a round table setting, we pass around the microphone and let the residents, staff and family share their memories! Its quite tough and touching at the same time.
2017-01-17 07:05:44 PM kathybrosrt :)
2017-01-17 07:05:46 PM donna61 We have memorial services once a month and everyone is invited, we share all the things we knew about the resident during their stay and comforted the family
2017-01-17 07:05:52 PM mzonneville We post it on the calendars, we used to send the calendars to all the families, not so much now. But we do put poster up so that if the families see the posters they sometimes come.
2017-01-17 07:05:54 PM dorisc who provides grief to the resident
2017-01-17 07:05:57 PM jdw090882 Sorry I missed the topic

2017-01-17 07:06:25 PM lesliepope We honor the lives of the residents that have passed at the end of every resident council meeting. Our chaplain does this!
2017-01-17 07:06:41 PM kathyhughes Social Services should provide grief counsuling
2017-01-17 07:06:52 PM jodie583 we had to stop with the food at the memorial service, because sometimes resident would forget & think i-/

2017-01-17 07:07:09 PM donna61 The family members never forget us and we never forget them
2017-01-17 07:07:10 PM chantelleb88 thank goodness once they get to a certain point they are sent to the medical floor at my hospital...but we have a social service person monday- friday who sets up services and appts for out pts
2017-01-17 07:07:12 PM mzonneville We have had a memorial service for just one family, the family requested to have her service at the nursing home because this was where she lived for so long, and she didn't want the other resident to miss out on her service.
2017-01-17 07:07:18 PM dorisc so do i work with the social workers
2017-01-17 07:07:21 PM rissarie2013 How often do you do your memorials? kathyhughes
2017-01-17 07:07:22 PM jodie583 I do singing & palliative basics at EOL
2017-01-17 07:07:25 PM conniew I have also done a small indoor fountain set up in the back of the activity room. I had a bowl of colorful pebbles I collected that sat next to the fountain and we invited patients, staff, and family members to visit this area. They could pick a pebble out and say a few worrds and place the pebble in the fountain. Most people responded well to this.
2017-01-17 07:07:28 PM denisewiit and I think we should. we know them best
