2017-06-27 06:28:27 PM jackie679 off topic but does anyone have suggestions for difficult employee... i make a schedule every morning so everyone knows each day what they are stations and where... if they have any extra i need them to do and so on... its pretty black and white and this lady purposly gets lost "helping a resident" when we try to do our coffee social outside because she doesnt want to be outside, or everyone breaks are planned out to keep the day moving and theres always a activities aide on the floor and she "forgets" what time she was for or didnt look and then no one is there for her section
2017-06-27 06:28:28 PM kathyhughes I would use foam fish as paper will not work well
2017-06-27 06:28:37 PM elidamartinez which ever way is best for your facility but fishing is always a good one

2017-06-27 06:30:03 PM jackie679 worst was today she watched as a resident got out of her chair and walked across the room and she is a big fall risk...
2017-06-27 06:30:05 PM nicolespangler They ask for it 5 days a week
2017-06-27 06:30:10 PM yogini Chair vollyball works with us also
2017-06-27 06:30:21 PM kathyhughes Jackie I would start writing her up....if she does not want to be outside then perhaps there are activities she can do room to room while others are outside

2017-06-27 06:32:25 PM melodyh 3 write ups is all it takes
2017-06-27 06:32:26 PM valei5 Activities is serious business, and people who are in the profession take it serious and if you have some one that is not a team player it's time for them to be some place else.
2017-06-27 06:32:29 PM elidamartinez why wait for a fourth
2017-06-27 06:32:32 PM rcgarcia73 progressive discipline

2017-06-27 06:32:43 PM rcgarcia73 write up the behavior not the individual
2017-06-27 06:32:48 PM kathyhughes Right
2017-06-27 06:32:54 PM bholden well said
2017-06-27 06:32:58 PM cynkarnes76 nancyathiel I do that a lot with my residnets on the weekend mornings
2017-06-27 06:33:04 PM nicolespangler very well said
2017-06-27 06:33:07 PM jcking We painted the leaves on pineapples today and they looked great. Table decorations for bbq.
2017-06-27 06:33:08 PM kathyhughes and she should get a write up with your "chat"
2017-06-27 06:33:13 PM nikiawyche the one thing I have learned is you are managing the actions of employees. Sometime you have to remove a bad one in order to get a good team.
2017-06-27 06:33:41 PM care3 in our department were a family its so nice. everyone gets a long and does their share this is going on my second year and were on our 4th director
2017-06-27 06:33:43 PM kathyhughes Right
2017-06-27 06:33:52 PM elidamartinez u might lose one but it may be that a better one is on the way...
2017-06-27 06:33:59 PM kathyhughes Right
2017-06-27 06:34:00 PM misopi 2nd year and 4 directors!! wow!
2017-06-27 06:34:04 PM bholden most times your gonna always have a sour apple
2017-06-27 06:34:04 PM jadams69 i did write up the behavior and the individual got worse after each one. My administator had to make ME understand I am accountable for each one of my assistants, and if they dont do the job it comes back on me.
2017-06-27 06:34:05 PM care3 ya
2017-06-27 06:34:06 PM patfuller melodhy I too had a outting today> I took my men group out t eat at a Golden China today. I
2017-06-27 06:34:26 PM jackie679 honestly i dont know how she is still there my director lets everything slide! she walked off the job 2 hours before her shift ended and there was no consequence so as the assisant director i beeen taking a bit of a back seat
2017-06-27 06:34:30 PM bholden thats right
2017-06-27 06:34:34 PM elidamartinez wow... thats somthing that i would not take lightly
2017-06-27 06:34:34 PM cynkarnes76 Nancy are you talking to me about the inside balloon volley with wheelchair residents?
2017-06-27 06:34:40 PM rcgarcia73 Jadams accountability is big and you have to make a big deal out of it
2017-06-27 06:34:41 PM amccurdy I went from coworker to boss and had a very hard time with one of my employees as I knew I would... I gave her a counseling form (a pre-write up) and she never came back
2017-06-27 06:34:44 PM elidamartinez this is your job and your reputation
2017-06-27 06:34:45 PM jackieb92 exactly jadams69
2017-06-27 06:34:47 PM knapier im so thankful my director is awesome! i have learned so much from her and she is amazing to work with
2017-06-27 06:34:49 PM amccurdy But it has made our department so much stronger
2017-06-27 06:35:03 PM bholden same here knapier
2017-06-27 06:35:04 PM melodyh I ve been through 2 assitants. neither of them liked me. I am a tough cookie I guess.
2017-06-27 06:35:12 PM amccurdy She had been here for 8 or so years and was really not good in the department
2017-06-27 06:35:18 PM nancyathiel wow i am glad to here that you think activities is a serioius business i am having issue with staff that thinks other things are more imporant than doing her job it upsets me that they dont put the resident first
2017-06-27 06:35:19 PM nicolespangler I don't have any assistants so I feel for ya. I have dealt with difficult employees in the past though, and often times those that don't understand just need to be let go
2017-06-27 06:35:20 PM josieh just today we wrote up on of my employee and told her this was her last write up next time she is out the door. Sme always complaning and never satisfied and she always has to have the lat word.
2017-06-27 06:35:21 PM elidamartinez if you love wat u do nobody should come between that
2017-06-27 06:35:22 PM marias me too knapier
2017-06-27 06:35:28 PM valei5 This week has started out rough , I've lost five residents with in three days, my morning was very distraught.:9

2017-06-27 06:35:36 PM priscillad MY ASST N I HAVE A GREAT WRKNG RELATIONSHIP
2017-06-27 06:35:46 PM rcgarcia73 hey fun for all but at the end of two weeks no ones shakes your hand and says thanks for coming, and youll be ok with it, you expect to get paid
2017-06-27 06:35:46 PM melodyh I dont do lazy... at all
2017-06-27 06:35:48 PM adrienne168 I had a great director but she left for another job. I call her all for help and she is still there for me even at another facility
2017-06-27 06:35:49 PM care3 My director is super sweet. i love to do the calendar and newsletters so does she so we rotate months
2017-06-27 06:35:53 PM amccurdy Write-ups and firing is hard though when your company is too lenient
2017-06-27 06:35:59 PM elvira06 I have a great assistant too i love her
2017-06-27 06:36:01 PM elidamartinez my boss is the best and would not change her
2017-06-27 06:36:15 PM elidamartinez shes very understandng
2017-06-27 06:36:22 PM jadams69 I take my job and residents seriously. I am the activity director. I will not have them do anything i would not do myself and I expect my assistants to do the job they are suppose to do and if its not for them they need to find something else to do. My residents come first.
2017-06-27 06:36:40 PM elvira06 now i dont like lazy or gossip that one thing that i cant stand for
2017-06-27 06:36:41 PM bholden my director and teh other asst are about to retire and ill be taking over as ddpt head, so im hopping to find someone young and entergetic who i can personally trian

2017-06-27 06:36:46 PM ginadilas enter the chat room
2017-06-27 06:36:52 PM melodyh me too
2017-06-27 06:36:52 PM care3 thats how it should be jadams69
2017-06-27 06:36:55 PM nikiawyche with out the residents their would not be a need for us
2017-06-27 06:36:59 PM teresa1970 enter the chat room
2017-06-27 06:36:59 PM nancyathiel wow we had the same director for 34 years
2017-06-27 06:37:00 PM yogini I have great coworker,very nderstanding.
2017-06-27 06:37:06 PM jadams69 My other 2 activity assistants are the "best". No problems from them at all...
2017-06-27 06:37:09 PM nicolespangler agreed! jadams69 you have it right
2017-06-27 06:37:10 PM misopi yes jadams!!! I agree!
2017-06-27 06:37:15 PM jackieb92 i love that i can go to my boss too for everything, even if im having a problem with another employee, my residents come first and foremost ,that is all.
2017-06-27 06:37:20 PM rcgarcia73 its not just a job...its what we LOVE to do!
2017-06-27 06:37:25 PM rcgarcia73 so do it well!
2017-06-27 06:37:35 PM melodyh exactly rcgarcia
2017-06-27 06:37:38 PM care3 o i cant believe i get paid to do this
2017-06-27 06:37:40 PM bholden our first responsibility is the care and well being of our residents
2017-06-27 06:37:41 PM elvira06 I would give a verbal warning and cut hours reason why doc everything( cover your butt)
2017-06-27 06:37:49 PM cynkarnes76 that is a tough position to be in Jackie and any other authority position (I guess my little one counts over my student volunteers)
2017-06-27 06:37:51 PM patfuller I agree rcgarcia
2017-06-27 06:37:56 PM elidamartinez we had a careplan meeting today and it was rough cuz the nurses and providers werent in sync and they was too much drama with the patient so it ends up bieng crazy meeting and im in the blue since im new but she explained in detail wat the problem was and why they were having so much trouble getting in sync
2017-06-27 06:38:07 PM yogini I agree with you.
2017-06-27 06:38:18 PM melodyh patfuller was it a chinese resturant
2017-06-27 06:38:21 PM knapier my director asks us our opinions about anything and everything that has to do with what we do on the floor. afterall we are the ones doing it so she completly confides in us to and wants to make sure she sets us up for success
2017-06-27 06:38:30 PM bcramer Do you have the authority to let that person go? So often administrators put responsiblities on someone's shoulders without giving them the authority to do anything with substandard employees
2017-06-27 06:38:32 PM amccurdy we have trouble with our care conferences because only myself and the social workers ever show up... all other departments act busy so they don't have to come
2017-06-27 06:38:32 PM marias i speak my mind with respect to her and she listen
2017-06-27 06:38:37 PM jackie679 thanks for the input i guess she not gona like our heart to heart tomorrow
2017-06-27 06:38:50 PM amccurdy the DON brought it up in the morning meeting and later that day at a CC still no one showed
2017-06-27 06:38:53 PM patfuller Yes maam and they enjoyed it. All you can eat.
2017-06-27 06:38:57 PM bholden haha
2017-06-27 06:38:57 PM misopi does your directors get on the floor and facilitate activties?
2017-06-27 06:39:01 PM teresa1970 hey just a quick question, any activities ideas for a resident that is legally blind
2017-06-27 06:39:03 PM misopi mine does not
2017-06-27 06:39:04 PM nikiawyche stick to the facility policies. This will protect you in the end.
2017-06-27 06:39:08 PM bholden mine does
2017-06-27 06:39:10 PM rcgarcia73 good lukc Jackie
2017-06-27 06:39:11 PM care3 mine does
2017-06-27 06:39:12 PM cynkarnes76 Jackie: Talking first is best, one to one privately.
2017-06-27 06:39:14 PM elidamartinez mine is very opened minded and will say wat needs to be said and she is very respectful of everybody
2017-06-27 06:39:17 PM amccurdy I'm an AD and I try to be up on the floor as much as possible
2017-06-27 06:39:21 PM bholden she jumps into everything, well except for cooking
2017-06-27 06:39:22 PM jackie679 thanks.
2017-06-27 06:39:26 PM nancyathiel i hate the last word person it is annoying and disrespectful
2017-06-27 06:39:27 PM melodyh Its tough when some are family members of our administrative team
2017-06-27 06:39:47 PM amccurdy Yeah agreed melodyh... we aren't allowed to hire family anymore in our facility
2017-06-27 06:39:55 PM adrienne168 i have someone who is blind as well and I am trying to figure out something as well
2017-06-27 06:39:59 PM knapier our director does come down and do activities as well as much as she can between alot of the meetings she has to do in our building and on campus
2017-06-27 06:40:00 PM amccurdy We had a long history of family working together and it became an issue
2017-06-27 06:40:04 PM bholden that should be a national rule lol
2017-06-27 06:40:08 PM jcking Our blind resident loves music.
2017-06-27 06:40:09 PM rcgarcia73 oh Melody i feel for you
2017-06-27 06:40:10 PM melodyh left the chat room
2017-06-27 06:40:10 PM melodyh enter the chat room
2017-06-27 06:40:11 PM kathyhughes Teresa I would have a chat with the resident to find out what that person is interested in and what they would like to do
2017-06-27 06:40:13 PM nikiawyche we try not to hire family in the same departments
2017-06-27 06:40:15 PM elidamartinez but in this job its important to say wat needs to be said cuz their is no intermediate here... u either go right or left with the patients and that can really make a change or the difference
2017-06-27 06:40:38 PM jadams69 teresa1970- I have busy aprons that have a variety of feeling gadgets on it. works great for blind residents
2017-06-27 06:40:49 PM kathyhughes It is much easier when you talk to the resident and find out what they would be interested in
2017-06-27 06:40:50 PM care3 we share doing care plans and care meetings etc. its kinda like were all the director.
2017-06-27 06:40:50 PM knapier Kathy i have a question. when will we know our grade for the Midterm Practicum packet we had to fax in and the posts we had to do as well? will it all be one grade?
2017-06-27 06:40:52 PM janicep i think communication helps employes
2017-06-27 06:40:59 PM melodyh I wish this was the case for me.
2017-06-27 06:41:05 PM teresa1970 this resident does too, but he wantws to do much more but i need some ideas, for maybe sensory?
2017-06-27 06:41:10 PM bholden def need clear communication
2017-06-27 06:41:14 PM adrienne168 our blind resident does have books on tape but i am going to have to look up the apron idea
2017-06-27 06:41:17 PM nikiawyche we have that apron also
2017-06-27 06:41:19 PM tabithaarguellez where do you get the busy aprons or blankets
2017-06-27 06:41:21 PM kathyhughes Yes it will be one grade and it takes me sometime to read through everything
2017-06-27 06:41:24 PM priscillad I TALK TO MY RESIDENYS REGULARLY ON THEIR INTERESTS....
2017-06-27 06:41:28 PM nicolespangler I guess I am a bit behind, I did not think the midterm packet was due yet? DId I miss something?
2017-06-27 06:41:33 PM bholden we use a pilo with all the gadgets
2017-06-27 06:41:38 PM knapier very understandable thank you so much!!
2017-06-27 06:41:42 PM misopi some churches donate busy fidget blankets
2017-06-27 06:41:46 PM janicep i agree with that idea
2017-06-27 06:41:56 PM kathyhughes Remember that there are 4 classes here all in different weeks
