2019-02-07 07:41:57 PM kristind Change of subject, but do you guys do store runs for your residents? Like if you don't have transportation as we don't? Or who is in charge of getting them items they would like?
2019-02-07 07:42:11 PM kathyhughes Yes it is the same as the regular class...all the materials are the same

2019-02-07 07:42:51 PM kristenamrein On my floor, no we're not in charge of that. On the upper floor, my boss and the Activitiy Aides up there are. Plus the residents do their own shopping on trips.
2019-02-07 07:42:51 PM kathyhughes The first thing I do is call the families and then document that I did...date, time
2019-02-07 07:43:03 PM cawhitaker when I moved to Florida I relized fast I needed my certification

2019-02-07 07:43:20 PM nlfrazier We do walmart once a month
2019-02-07 07:43:22 PM kathyhughes then the second step was to order it for the residents and have the business office send the order form and check
2019-02-07 07:43:23 PM kristind calixc3. We don't have a van or bus. And most residents can't go out safely.
2019-02-07 07:43:30 PM elainer2 we have a transportation driver who will pick up things if family can't.
2019-02-07 07:43:40 PM nlfrazier that is all we have in our area
2019-02-07 07:43:42 PM kathyhughes We took people who could go to Walmart once a month

2019-02-07 07:45:07 PM calixc3 i usually push the cart in walmart
2019-02-07 07:45:07 PM kristind They just cut even many of our medical/handicap accessible transport in town (even in the city where Mayo Clinic is!) so it's hard to make it worth the money for only a few residents and $80/trip
2019-02-07 07:45:14 PM elainer2 we go to walmart once a week and some order online.
2019-02-07 07:45:20 PM kathyhughes and one gentleman called me and his battery was dead...so I had to send maintenance to give him a jump
2019-02-07 07:45:22 PM cawhitaker same, we have a bus and do 2 scenic rides with the memory care unit, a shopping trip and a lunch outing every month

2019-02-07 07:45:34 PM awalden are you in LTC kristind? I was where the SW had that responsibility. it was part of her job description
2019-02-07 07:45:42 PM salinass our residents in our memory care unit cannot handle crowds or going out like that no more, they become very overwhelmed
2019-02-07 07:45:44 PM kristind Yes I am

2019-02-07 07:46:23 PM acorman I work in a memory care community and we go out every week to various events. They love it
2019-02-07 07:46:23 PM kristind I'll have to chat with her more about it. She is the one who even asks ME to go get jeans or clothing for residents, snacks etc.
2019-02-07 07:46:25 PM richelle70 We take our memory care residents on short trips such as going for ice cream
2019-02-07 07:46:28 PM lisabean volunteers are crutial part here

2019-02-07 07:46:50 PM kristind I never thought I'd say it, but after two years..I am sick of shopping! :)
2019-02-07 07:46:52 PM cawhitaker same here with the memory care, we on scenic rides, they do not get out of the bus

2019-02-07 07:47:17 PM kathyhughes Thats why we ordered things
2019-02-07 07:47:18 PM awalden it's a lot!
2019-02-07 07:47:22 PM amaliaagallas its an all hands on deck usually a 1:2 staff to resident ratio when MC does go out
2019-02-07 07:47:24 PM alejandra95 yes only the ones that can
2019-02-07 07:47:27 PM kristenamrein From what I've heard for our WalMart trips, my boss goes along with another staff member and an LNA. Each one is assigned a resident or two to walk around with and then they meet at Subway for lunch before heading home.
2019-02-07 07:47:34 PM kathyhughes We also have a store that would come to us with clothes and shoes
2019-02-07 07:47:35 PM salinass i have all 3 levels
2019-02-07 07:47:41 PM richelle70 Volunteers are hard to find. Families want their loved on to go out but usually can't go along.
2019-02-07 07:47:45 PM kathyhughes they came twice a year
