2019-08-01 06:12:32 PM kathyhughes What is pour painting?
2019-08-01 06:12:43 PM wilmaholt Yes what is pour painting
2019-08-01 06:13:03 PM nlfrazier that is wear you pour paint on to a canvas to leave different patterns
2019-08-01 06:13:16 PM kathyhughes What kind of paint?
2019-08-01 06:13:47 PM nlfrazier i bought all the supplies at hobby lobby. acrylic paint
2019-08-01 06:13:57 PM dianep Ive seen it done using a plastic drain cover- it comes out really pretty! Great idea
2019-08-01 06:14:03 PM kathyhughes And you just pour it on the canvas?
2019-08-01 06:14:14 PM wilmaholt are the patterns just patterns the residents design themself or are they using something to shape a pattern
2019-08-01 06:14:22 PM josephinegonpul some thing new
2019-08-01 06:14:32 PM cassandracl12 you could put strips of tape on there and rip it off once paint dries to reveal white areas
2019-08-01 06:14:34 PM nlfrazier canvas at the dollar store. yes and move it around to make the pattern you want. like tye die look
2019-08-01 06:14:47 PM dianep you can check it out on you tube
2019-08-01 06:14:51 PM wilmaholt Definintely something different..cool
2019-08-01 06:15:01 PM briannad interesting
2019-08-01 06:15:04 PM nlfrazier so fun and messy
2019-08-01 06:15:06 PM kathyhughes What do you do with the painted Rocks? Do you distribute them in the community?
2019-08-01 06:15:12 PM jpitrone i'll have to try some of those ideas !
2019-08-01 06:15:25 PM juarezamber iv seen what you mean, iv seen where people pour paint and like a swing and it pours onto the canvas?
2019-08-01 06:15:43 PM nlfrazier Yes we have a local facebook page people post pic after we hide them around town
2019-08-01 06:15:50 PM wilmaholt what size rocks are you using?
2019-08-01 06:16:13 PM cassandracl12 you could also fill spray bottles with watered down paint and hang paper up for them to squirt at
2019-08-01 06:16:28 PM nlfrazier all sizes. They like to make different things with different shapes
2019-08-01 06:16:41 PM wilmaholt because we tried paiting rocks and the residents coplained the rocks were too small
2019-08-01 06:16:51 PM wilmaholt so I was just wondering
2019-08-01 06:17:18 PM nlfrazier we went with larger ones but not all round
2019-08-01 06:17:19 PM wilmaholt Where did you purchase the rocks
2019-08-01 06:17:19 PM kathyhughes Any other questions for Nicole?
2019-08-01 06:17:21 PM cassandracl12 Walmart has painting rock kits that are of good size and Michaels carries varying sizes of smooth rocks to paint
2019-08-01 06:17:37 PM jpitrone if rocks dont work for whatever reason you can always use seashells
2019-08-01 06:17:44 PM penkay how did you get the community involved
2019-08-01 06:17:45 PM wilmaholt Im interested in trying this again and hoping they like it better than the first

2019-08-01 06:20:58 PM daniellesitzer So you take a photo and use mod podge to transfer it onto the coaster
2019-08-01 06:21:18 PM daniellesitzer These will be given out as christmas gifts. From the resident to the family member
2019-08-01 06:22:12 PM daniellesitzer Materials needed are from lowes and hobby lobby

2019-08-01 06:22:49 PM wilmaholt do the residents do any of the cutting if there is any?
2019-08-01 06:23:03 PM jpitrone sounds like a great gift!
2019-08-01 06:23:07 PM kathyhughes What kind of coaster?
2019-08-01 06:23:13 PM daniellesitzer There is no cutting. You buy white ceramic tile from a hardware store like lowes

2019-08-01 06:23:47 PM kathyhughes Can they pick any picture or is it a family picture?
2019-08-01 06:23:58 PM dianep Are you glueing felt to the back side?
2019-08-01 06:24:00 PM daniellesitzer Whatever picture they would like.
2019-08-01 06:24:08 PM admin they have leftover odd and broken box tiles every weekend
2019-08-01 06:24:35 PM penkay I bet if you check with a tite store in your area they would donate the tile you
2019-08-01 06:24:45 PM kathyhughes So you can do this with the left over tiles and save some money
2019-08-01 06:24:45 PM daniellesitzer It can be whatever memory they would like. A picture of themselves, family photo. There choice
2019-08-01 06:24:53 PM wilmaholt good idea Pennie

2019-08-01 06:25:52 PM jpitrone I think it would be nice to see a picture of the resident holding up their own tile

2019-08-01 06:30:23 PM jpitrone Tour de Life - Residents and staff will be creating their very own timeline of their life. Flyers will be sent out to residents, families and staff a week before to get pictures ready. Activities department will provide poster, glue, sizzors etc. Monday - Thursdays will be the days offered to help residents construct their own timeline, families are welcome to come help. Friday will be the day the residents display their timelines by their doors. Staff, residents and families will get a chance to tour all the timelines. Staff's timelines are located in the room where the tour will end with happy hour
2019-08-01 06:30:27 PM jpitrone snacks and entertainment
2019-08-01 06:31:28 PM kathyhughes Will they start where? When they were born?
2019-08-01 06:32:07 PM dianep wonderful idea! Great way to get the family involved and reminisce as they make them.
2019-08-01 06:32:08 PM jpitrone yes, well as close as they can .. if they don't have any pictures around that time then just a brief descripiton will do

2019-08-01 06:33:06 PM kathyhughes I would bet that the staff will need more help than the residents! Do you have any ideas that you will put out there to guide them all
2019-08-01 06:33:06 PM juarezamber they get to tell their story when the tour get to their door? like do that all walk together and once they get to their door they tell their story
2019-08-01 06:33:07 PM daniellesitzer Wonderful way to get everyone involved. Also, a good way for staff to get to know residents more and residents to know staff better
2019-08-01 06:33:27 PM wilmaholt lol Kathy
2019-08-01 06:33:53 PM kathyhughes Will there be an example...the residents will be more creative I bet
2019-08-01 06:33:57 PM josephinegonpul like it
2019-08-01 06:34:07 PM jpitrone i can make a sketleton of a timeliine such as... born when... elementry school .. highschool ... when they got married .. had kids ... careers .. grandchildren etc
2019-08-01 06:34:21 PM wilmaholt What do you do when a resident does not remember much and you were not able to reach additional family or friends to retrieve information?
2019-08-01 06:34:22 PM penkay I like that they can present it as come to their door
2019-08-01 06:34:34 PM kathyhughes Oh perhaps you should do your own timeline!!!
2019-08-01 06:34:43 PM nlfrazier are you and your staff make one
2019-08-01 06:34:45 PM donna61 maybe you have pictures when the resident was involved in a program with you
2019-08-01 06:34:46 PM jpitrone i would help them to the best of my ability by looking around their room for evidence
2019-08-01 06:34:55 PM wilmaholt ok
2019-08-01 06:34:59 PM jpitrone if that doesnt work... then maybe i can use them as a judge
2019-08-01 06:35:13 PM jpitrone to see have them help me determine who had the most creative timeline
2019-08-01 06:35:22 PM wilmaholt good idea
2019-08-01 06:35:33 PM kathyhughes I would bet that there are pics on the internet about the year that they were born

2019-08-01 06:37:09 PM kathyhughes They can share a memory and then you could look it up and print it off for them
2019-08-01 06:37:33 PM wilmaholt good idea Kathy
2019-08-01 06:37:35 PM jpitrone yeah definitley !
2019-08-01 06:37:47 PM dianep you could always do a time line of when they first came to the facility. Who they are freinds with now, favorite food, trip and so on
2019-08-01 06:37:49 PM kathyhughes Most of your residents were born in the 1920s
2019-08-01 06:37:54 PM briannad that is a great idea
2019-08-01 06:38:12 PM daniellesitzer Thats a good idea dianep
2019-08-01 06:38:14 PM kathyhughes So they would have memories of the late 30's and the 40's
2019-08-01 06:38:52 PM jpitrone so they could show their favorite entertainers , clothes (fashion)

2019-08-01 06:43:25 PM kathyhughes Altered Books is where you take a book...any book and alter it...with art on a couple of pages, pictures that you find in magazines, you can glue pages together and make an place to hide something
2019-08-01 06:43:35 PM daniellesitzer We just made art portfolios in July. Just need decorative duct tape and two canvas art panels
2019-08-01 06:43:54 PM kathyhughes there are tons of ideas that we used and the best books were Readers Digest Condensed Books

2019-08-01 06:45:40 PM briannad thank you
2019-08-01 06:45:48 PM daniellesitzer As residents do crafts or artwork you can store it in there for families to see
2019-08-01 06:46:06 PM wilmaholt we may tie dye shirts of there chosen color which would be a spark of change for the residents. no title but it was mentioned briefly
2019-08-01 06:46:15 PM kathyhughes If you use YouTube and let the residents see folks making them you can spark their creativity

2019-08-01 06:49:57 PM kathyhughes WE would have a craft day where we would watch craft videos and the residents would choose the craft they wanted to do
2019-08-01 06:50:03 PM donna61 We have been taking residents to the library to learn their ansestry which has been very interesting as they remember the names of the past and how they share with their families now and how it sparks up a whole new conversation.
