2014-07-29 06:12:57 PM alianov1sept4 great laura~
2014-07-29 06:13:02 PM debbielee we do have alot of residents who enjoy all kinds of activities so its easy to get them to activities
2014-07-29 06:13:04 PM brandyl its really fun when they offer the clues...i had one gentleman chose a blade of grass on the carpet...he laughed at me the entire time
2014-07-29 06:13:04 PM lauraw its been rediculous, and my son got his first two teeth
2014-07-29 06:13:06 PM margarethrabal Yea L!!!
2014-07-29 06:13:09 PM deloisea COG.Lauraw
2014-07-29 06:13:12 PM carola We break out the monthly calendar and also print a daily calendar that is posted on each floor and the elevators. It's also good since if there is a change they can see.
2014-07-29 06:13:13 PM valerieh CONGRATS !! Laura
2014-07-29 06:13:15 PM kellya Now if you can just get rid of that pesky boyfriend. Kidding!
2014-07-29 06:13:16 PM lauraw thank you all for the congratulations!!!
2014-07-29 06:13:24 PM lauraw hahahaha
2014-07-29 06:13:25 PM alianov1sept4 how do you get residents that DO NOT like to go on outings....to GO
2014-07-29 06:13:26 PM scarrejo1026 awe congrats
2014-07-29 06:13:29 PM anthonyalviar I invite them personaly. I go to their room and explain to them what the activity is and how fun it is to do with group of people.
2014-07-29 06:13:37 PM carola Daily calendars are large print which is easier to see than the monthly calendar.
2014-07-29 06:13:45 PM kathyhughes If they don't want to go why are you worried about them?
2014-07-29 06:13:50 PM lauraw do they have dementia alianov1sept4 (and whats your first name)?
2014-07-29 06:13:50 PM alianov1sept4 I have a few that are perfectly able, they just dont like leaving the building. should i leave them alone or strongly encourage
2014-07-29 06:13:54 PM valerieh Try asking where they would go
2014-07-29 06:14:01 PM deloisea I wish I can take some of our residents on outings but we one have one van
2014-07-29 06:14:11 PM kellya Attendance Logs. C.Y.A. yes?
2014-07-29 06:14:12 PM kathyhughes Heck I only go out to get the mail most days
2014-07-29 06:14:15 PM janicewatts let them be
2014-07-29 06:14:17 PM ginametras I had two residents back out of our ice cream trip friday, so I went to two guys who never want to go anywhere and said guess what we;re going for ice cream, and they got up and came on the trip
2014-07-29 06:14:22 PM maria i think you should try to encourgae them but don't push too much
2014-07-29 06:14:23 PM alianov1sept4 because i KNOW they would enjoy the trip once they get out...
2014-07-29 06:14:25 PM sarahe Susan30, we have a notebook at each table with discussion topics listed and your right it's very helpful. Especially for some of our residents who feel they never know what to say to people they don't know well.
2014-07-29 06:14:25 PM 241130 I think all we can do is keep trying but we cannot force anyone to do anything they do not want to do
2014-07-29 06:14:34 PM brandyl alian unfortunatly i never have enough volunteers to assist on trips so when an Elder doesnt want to go im glad to be able to offer it to another who will enjoy it
2014-07-29 06:14:35 PM jean1 I respect people's right to refuse activities. I would get super annoyed if I felt pestered into doing things/going places.
2014-07-29 06:14:36 PM debbielee not everyone likes to do group activities but will do in room activities one on one
2014-07-29 06:14:38 PM maria14 I agree with inviting them personally. There's a resident who expressed interest in the Men's group outings we have but said he couldn't go until the men invited him
2014-07-29 06:14:45 PM carola We have residents like that. Perhaps they have never been big on outings...or maybe looked forward to quiet days at home with retirement!
2014-07-29 06:14:47 PM kellya good idea sarahe
2014-07-29 06:14:48 PM lauraw no dementia?
2014-07-29 06:14:54 PM alianov1sept4 it makes me sad leaving them behind :( deep down i know theywould like to go...they just dont have the confidence that they can do it
2014-07-29 06:14:58 PM alianov1sept4 no dementia
2014-07-29 06:15:00 PM lauraw that's kind of me strong suit
2014-07-29 06:15:03 PM lauraw mmmm.
2014-07-29 06:15:04 PM kathyhughes You could try inviting their family or friends to meet you somewhere
2014-07-29 06:15:07 PM margarethrabal Put on a cd of the ocean and play like you are at the coast use a beach ball too
2014-07-29 06:15:08 PM susan30 I have the daily schedule on the back of the daily chronical and hand it out to all residents daily.
2014-07-29 06:15:09 PM valerieh I had a lady that didnt do much I asked her she said if I went for pizza she would go LOL
2014-07-29 06:15:11 PM 241130 Thats a smart idea Kathy
2014-07-29 06:15:13 PM lauraw what type of outings do you do?
2014-07-29 06:15:15 PM deloisea maris14 men's outing sounds nice
2014-07-29 06:15:31 PM debbielee I do tell some residents to come and watch even if they dont want to participate and usually they will get invovled.
2014-07-29 06:15:34 PM shullseniorliving today was beauty shop day so the discussion here was look at such and such hair. i want my hair done like that.
2014-07-29 06:15:37 PM lauraw pizza will be the key to my heart too valerieh
2014-07-29 06:15:42 PM janicewatts what kind of outings

2014-07-29 06:16:13 PM lauraw *depot

2014-07-29 06:16:16 PM scarrejo1026 ive invited family on outing and residents enjoy that very much :)
2014-07-29 06:16:18 PM anthonyalviar My outing for aug is at the mall to watch a movie
2014-07-29 06:16:20 PM janicewatts That sounds like fun
2014-07-29 06:16:22 PM kathyhughes You know sometimes just the thought of having to go out, get dressed and all may be overwhelming
2014-07-29 06:16:25 PM margarethrabal Whats local in your area for a outing?
2014-07-29 06:16:27 PM kellya I liked "Deopt" HA
2014-07-29 06:16:27 PM lauraw or maybe out to lowes?
2014-07-29 06:16:34 PM zojeda My LT residents are not in good shape to go on outtings
2014-07-29 06:16:43 PM alianov1sept4 they are mobile, in good spirits, with it and all...but they aren't confident that they have the strength
2014-07-29 06:16:46 PM lauraw yeah, leaving the familiar surroundings
2014-07-29 06:16:51 PM 241130 Could you do a scenic drive for those who are not in good shape to go?
2014-07-29 06:16:53 PM alianov1sept4 I take it....ILL LEAVE THEM ALONE lol
2014-07-29 06:16:57 PM valerieh We are going to Bob Evans next month and touring a farm equipment facility
2014-07-29 06:17:03 PM maria home depot can do certain work shops, my daughter works there and they do all sorts of activites with the community.
2014-07-29 06:17:04 PM lauraw maybe just a ride to get ice cream and a burger?
2014-07-29 06:17:08 PM alianov1sept4 yes, we do scenic routes. tours!
2014-07-29 06:17:09 PM brandyl we just went and watched our community parade on Saturday, the hardest part was everyone wanted to stand and show respect when the Color Guard walked through and the girls and i had to scatter to ensure safety lol
2014-07-29 06:17:10 PM lauraw like a drive through outing
2014-07-29 06:17:11 PM kathyhughes and they are afraid that if they go they won't get help if something happens
2014-07-29 06:17:14 PM maria14 going to Lowes or Home Depot is a great idea for the men's group!
2014-07-29 06:17:15 PM lauraw or just a country drive?
2014-07-29 06:17:25 PM kellya Home Depot; Guys would probably like that
2014-07-29 06:17:29 PM kathyhughes so perhaps you can get them to go around the block!
2014-07-29 06:17:35 PM deloisea Kathy that is true.
2014-07-29 06:17:37 PM debbielee We ride out almost every week and take turns with residents. Today we pushed wheelchairs out around the river.
2014-07-29 06:17:40 PM zojeda I love Home Depot myself!
2014-07-29 06:17:40 PM kathyhughes a neighborhood trip
2014-07-29 06:17:44 PM ginametras out to ice cream is really easy and really fun
2014-07-29 06:17:51 PM alianov1sept4 yes, they fear having to use the restroom and would be a BOTHER...:( so i never know if i should ask over and over or just leave it alone
2014-07-29 06:17:57 PM alianov1sept4 i like they home depot
2014-07-29 06:18:01 PM susan30 Yes i find that most of my residents would rather stay put.

2014-07-29 06:18:17 PM kellya When I was a little boy. I could spend all day at a construction site etc . . .
2014-07-29 06:18:17 PM lauraw sometimes we even suggest going to pick out sand paper, or pick out a gallon of paint
2014-07-29 06:18:22 PM anthonyalviar I want to do the ice cream trip for my residents but its too hot here in tx
2014-07-29 06:18:40 PM 241130 Could you take them to an indoor place?
2014-07-29 06:18:41 PM carola Funny we'll have people sign up for outings but NOT come to chair exercise or the Greenway Walk (park immediately behind our facility.)
2014-07-29 06:18:41 PM scarrejo1026 i want to start neighborhood drives.
2014-07-29 06:18:46 PM maria it is too hot in texas!
2014-07-29 06:18:48 PM sarahe Kathy, that's so true. We have one resident that sits in her wheelchair in her doorway (in her pajamas) everyday looking at the paper and every day she tells me with a smile, that if she can muster up the energy to put on her clothes then she would love to attend an activity.
2014-07-29 06:18:55 PM alianov1sept4 could you just stay on the bus and so a scenic tour and eat icecream on bus anthony
