2019-10-08 06:10:36 PM emilynb1 Someone had mentioned that an example to ageism in the community is that seniors can't drive

2019-10-08 06:11:52 PM buddyrmorvent 2. Identify a negative example of ageism in yourcommunity. Identify what makes it ageist, how itpromotes negative stereotypes of aging and the elderly.a. Post your example in the “PracticumAssignment Forum” to discuss with your fellowstudents
2019-10-08 06:12:37 PM buddyrmorvent I think this is what the topice is suppose to be. everyone agree or was there another?
2019-10-08 06:12:44 PM emilynb1 i agree
2019-10-08 06:13:36 PM buddyrmorvent My example of ageism in my community is everyone assumes older ppl are tech deficent.
2019-10-08 06:13:39 PM aida1 we have to talk about special events
2019-10-08 06:14:07 PM emilynb1 special events is for the other chat
2019-10-08 06:15:06 PM emilynb1 i agree buddy that is a negative thing to think about elderly
2019-10-08 06:16:10 PM buddyrmorvent You are right about driving also.
2019-10-08 06:17:20 PM emilynb1 my example of ageism would be that people assuming elderly/seniors are always in need of help. Or that they can't do anything for themselves. At times, they don't give them a chance to succeed. It probably makes them feel useless or helpless when really, we should promote independence and choice as much as possible.
2019-10-08 06:18:49 PM buddyrmorvent I think the belief that older ppl are tech deficent assumes older ppl dont have the capacity to learn, and it limits there options. I use several tech based services that are perfect for an older person. Especially if they do need help with some aspects of life.
2019-10-08 06:19:51 PM buddyrmorvent That is insightful and a sad aspect of aging.
2019-10-08 06:22:41 PM emilynb1 totally true buddyyrmorvent !! we have a research department in our facility that just started a virtual reality experiene and the residents love it! also, we do armchair travel on the comuter and a lot of ipad games
2019-10-08 06:22:58 PM emilynb1 most of them understand more than we think they do
2019-10-08 06:24:03 PM buddyrmorvent They are still debating where we are supposed to be, so I copy & pasted my comment into the main chat also.
2019-10-08 06:24:19 PM buddyrmorvent To be safe.
2019-10-08 06:24:57 PM emilynb1 lol smart!

2019-10-08 06:45:04 PM tammiehall25 I agree with you Emily.....I find it in my job. Some co-workers don't give the residents enough time to respond to a question or assume they can't complete a task wihout help
2019-10-08 06:45:57 PM tammiehall25 or that they can't speak for themselves...they're always answering for them

2019-10-08 06:50:32 PM emilynb1 yeah it definitely isnt fair to them. just because they are seniors doesn't mean they aren't capable
