2017-01-26 07:38:34 PM tvs320 Staffing is a huge issue
2017-01-26 07:38:45 PM katierdale volunteers are invaluable
2017-01-26 07:38:57 PM jillm I hurt my back dealing with all the wheelchairs on an outing but it didn't snap until I got home so the company said it wasn't work related. Really?
2017-01-26 07:38:59 PM wendy5 I have the best volunteer EVER
2017-01-26 07:39:02 PM kathyhughes Depends on the residents and where they wanted to go
2017-01-26 07:39:04 PM bestkat4u yes always tv
2017-01-26 07:39:16 PM isabel1 yes, i am getting a lot of volunteers also.
2017-01-26 07:39:17 PM wendy5 She is working this weekend so I can go to a family party
2017-01-26 07:39:19 PM katierdale idk wendy, I have a pretty good one...but she's leaving to apply as a resident aid :(
2017-01-26 07:39:22 PM nancy1 we have picnics in our driveway to and music and drinks in our drive-up to get out
2017-01-26 07:39:30 PM rebeccaa Any ideas for Volunteer apprecaition. We use to do a dinner but the new owner may not go for that
2017-01-26 07:39:36 PM tammymb our local movie theater opens during the day just for us at a discount!
2017-01-26 07:40:06 PM katierdale good question rebeccaa. I try to give them thank you cards signed by the residents and myself every so often, but other than that I haven't done much...
2017-01-26 07:40:20 PM mlmusic Maybe gift certificates to a local fave?
2017-01-26 07:40:21 PM isabel1 we give our volunteers a certificate of appreciation and a treat
2017-01-26 07:40:24 PM tammymb I have received 6 volunteers since Christmas
2017-01-26 07:40:25 PM kathyhughes the residents made thankyou cards once a month for the volunteers, it was hard to get everyone there for one event
2017-01-26 07:40:27 PM 11616499 yes we do the same with transfers as long as they dont require a lift. I am the only Nursing assistant certified on top of doing our activities so transfers get tricky. if i cant do it alone then we have to limit residents and take turns with the stricktly wheelchair bound
2017-01-26 07:40:27 PM saraheltman High School Musical dress rehearsals! So cool, I would have loved to perform for the elderly, they usually don't judge the performances too badly and it's free!
2017-01-26 07:41:10 PM katierdale reminds me of the days my cousins and I would perform Grease for my grandpa's nursing home
2017-01-26 07:41:23 PM bestkat4u lol
2017-01-26 07:41:26 PM isabel1 i love Grease
2017-01-26 07:41:27 PM bestkat4u nice
2017-01-26 07:41:30 PM katierdale I was alwasy the back up singer
2017-01-26 07:41:35 PM rebeccaa I always feel as though a card is not sufficient but they volunteer for the residents not a gift
2017-01-26 07:41:40 PM katierdale lol never got to be sandy or danny
2017-01-26 07:41:42 PM tammymb sounded like fun! katieedale
2017-01-26 07:41:58 PM saraheltman Perfect! Great ideas!
2017-01-26 07:41:58 PM katierdale that's what got me interested in nursing homes and activities :)
2017-01-26 07:42:03 PM rebeccaa They get a free meal on outings
2017-01-26 07:42:14 PM nancy1 We did that too at another facility sARAH...all the senior homes in the city were invited....they LOVED it!!!!!!
2017-01-26 07:42:21 PM kathyhughes The residents made them and they got one once a month and appreciated their time
2017-01-26 07:42:33 PM 26rosemarie i have been in Activities for 5 months so im learning a lot with yall. :)
2017-01-26 07:42:49 PM layvonne2016 great idea kathy
2017-01-26 07:42:55 PM 11616499 this year volunteer appreciation we are going to do different. SO many people come and help through out the year, and have had people upset or offended that they didnt get an invite. so we are putting an ad in the paper and thanking all who have helped out at the facility and state to stop by and grab their gift. usually girl scout cookies thanks-alot-cookies. this way if they come for a gift they might actually stay and visit too. lol
2017-01-26 07:42:55 PM tammymb welcome! 26rosemarie!
2017-01-26 07:42:58 PM kathyhughes the residents also signed them
2017-01-26 07:43:13 PM 26rosemarie thank you Tammy\
2017-01-26 07:43:15 PM isabel1 our residdents are also doing the thank you card every now and then, sign them and write them, decorate their cards
2017-01-26 07:43:37 PM rebeccaa Wonderful idea 11616499
2017-01-26 07:43:50 PM tvs320 great idea!!!
2017-01-26 07:43:52 PM tammymb we will have a Volunteers' luncheon in April
2017-01-26 07:43:56 PM 11616499 we usually did a brunch and residents made a gift. but we have just a very poor turnout with it, its just not worth the hassel anymore.
2017-01-26 07:44:00 PM katierdale hey did anyone ever try doing a yearbook???
2017-01-26 07:44:16 PM nancy1 116.......Excellent!!!! I'm gonna steal that one!!!
2017-01-26 07:44:17 PM jmorris84 good ideas
2017-01-26 07:44:19 PM rebeccaa sounds very involved
2017-01-26 07:44:22 PM katierdale my residents have expressed doing one and I thought an annual yearbook for the calendar year would be a good idea
2017-01-26 07:44:44 PM katierdale Yeah but essentially it's pictures you take of them anyway , just have them write an article or something
2017-01-26 07:44:44 PM kathyhughes It would be a great idea
2017-01-26 07:44:50 PM rebeccaa as in expensive
2017-01-26 07:44:53 PM wendy5 I would do 6 months! so much changes at our place
2017-01-26 07:45:08 PM kathyhughes You can make it into a calendar for the next year
2017-01-26 07:45:15 PM saraheltman Semi Annual Yearbook?
2017-01-26 07:45:17 PM layvonne2016 great idea

2017-01-26 07:45:38 PM wendy5 I want to arrange Glamour shots for mothers day
2017-01-26 07:45:41 PM kathyhughes I believe that some printing places will make them for you and then you can sell them to staff

2017-01-26 07:46:08 PM katierdale expensive, maybe, but if they are willing to pay for them I can make the book in Indesign (Adobe program) and for less than $20 a book take them to print
2017-01-26 07:46:14 PM 11616499 my name is amanda, sorry need to change my name on here.
2017-01-26 07:46:20 PM isabel1 i like the glamor shots too
2017-01-26 07:46:21 PM wendy5 I will have the pictures taken early then framed for mothers day for them to give to their kids
2017-01-26 07:46:26 PM jillm I didn't realize Glamour Shots is still around!
2017-01-26 07:46:44 PM jillm wendy5 GREAT idea
2017-01-26 07:46:46 PM katierdale Or maybe start a facebook page if your residents signed a photo release form and just turn the facebook page into a book?
2017-01-26 07:46:50 PM rebeccaa me neither jill
2017-01-26 07:46:52 PM tammymb glamour shots would be fun!
2017-01-26 07:46:52 PM isabel1 i just wish i have a full time staff
2017-01-26 07:46:59 PM saraheltman Indesign is great, I made cheap programs and printed them myself for a performance in our chapel :) A lot of work though...
2017-01-26 07:47:04 PM 11616499 we also do a facebook page
2017-01-26 07:47:06 PM rebeccaa me too isabel
2017-01-26 07:47:07 PM wendy5 I am not sure if it is but something close! I might have to hire someone to take the pictures at our location
2017-01-26 07:47:09 PM mlmusic I don't know about the company, but I like the idea of Glamour shots.
2017-01-26 07:47:09 PM katierdale yeah it is a lot of work
2017-01-26 07:47:27 PM tvs320 My company is very strict with photos
2017-01-26 07:47:31 PM katierdale or set up your own background and get a good camera to borrow?
2017-01-26 07:47:43 PM kathyhughes you can also see if you can rent a photo booth
2017-01-26 07:47:49 PM bestkat4u but you enjoy the work katie
2017-01-26 07:47:56 PM tvs320 I love photo booth

2017-01-26 07:48:06 PM wendy5 photo booths are a lot of fun
2017-01-26 07:48:06 PM katierdale I'm good at drawing portraits of people - and I do enjoy that too. Graphic Design and art is my forte
2017-01-26 07:48:08 PM rebeccaa who would you get a photo booth from
2017-01-26 07:48:13 PM isabel1 we can do pictures as long as it for the facility use and for family memebers only. I will do photo booth on mardi gras
2017-01-26 07:48:22 PM 11616499 as long as forms are signed its okay. but yes photos can be tricky. I also manage our fb page and just make sure photos are appropriate.
2017-01-26 07:48:22 PM kathyhughes I would do a search
2017-01-26 07:48:33 PM mlmusic You'll need someone good with makeup, and they use a real cheap material to wrap around the shoulders.
2017-01-26 07:48:36 PM 11616499 drawing pics would be awesome
2017-01-26 07:48:40 PM isabel1 no fb
2017-01-26 07:49:06 PM wendy5 rebecca--tons of people have photo booths for weddings and graduations now so do a search-you might luck out!
2017-01-26 07:49:10 PM kathyhughes I know of one facility that has a photo booth set up for their local high school prom and the kids come in to use it and the residents can see them
2017-01-26 07:49:12 PM mlmusic It's just shiny material, but it's very cheap.
2017-01-26 07:49:25 PM rebeccaa we had a guy to characturs for a volunteer party and they loved it
2017-01-26 07:49:30 PM tvs320 That is a great idea!!!

2017-01-26 07:50:14 PM rebeccaa left the chat room
2017-01-26 07:50:16 PM saraheltman You can rent them for not that much, people do for weddings and proms
