2013-10-15 06:33:29 PM kathyhughes thanks
2013-10-15 06:33:29 PM sarah11393 redirect them
2013-10-15 06:33:30 PM kpachan We recently had this problem, it depends on diagnosis as well as what interventions they respond to as well as if there is a target individual
2013-10-15 06:33:34 PM sarah11393 try....
2013-10-15 06:33:34 PM shigh redirect.

2013-10-15 06:33:50 PM saraheve05 yes the do lol
2013-10-15 06:33:51 PM rabille86 They certainly do form cliques
2013-10-15 06:33:53 PM kathyhughes ok
2013-10-15 06:33:54 PM meg yes they do have clicks
2013-10-15 06:34:07 PM dtracie11 we try and seperate the residents when it becomes to much,
2013-10-15 06:34:07 PM angiemcentire the one i have does it as teasing but he makes the women so mad at him
2013-10-15 06:34:14 PM sarah11393 do they have clicks?

2013-10-15 06:34:22 PM kathyhughes Do you remove the resident from the activities
2013-10-15 06:34:23 PM kelsey827 we dont really have clicks. but we do have certain residents with nasty dispositions
2013-10-15 06:34:27 PM scalabrese yes
2013-10-15 06:34:28 PM dtracie11 we have also tried talking to familes and nurses but that isnt very successful
2013-10-15 06:34:30 PM dgauntlett no
2013-10-15 06:34:32 PM kalamclemore yes
2013-10-15 06:34:35 PM kpachan Depends on how it is affecting the other residnets
2013-10-15 06:34:36 PM dgauntlett we just seperate
2013-10-15 06:34:38 PM kathyhughes You can sign up any time for the MEPAP2
2013-10-15 06:34:38 PM jjessup situational
2013-10-15 06:34:39 PM rabille86 we had a woman who used her position as Resident Council president as a bully pulpet
2013-10-15 06:34:42 PM ksmith2115 i had to remove a resident from an activity before.
2013-10-15 06:34:44 PM scalabrese especially when they are disruptive
2013-10-15 06:34:47 PM sarah11393 if they are disupting, then yes I will remove them from the activity
2013-10-15 06:34:48 PM kelsey827 some of ours are so mean to other residents
2013-10-15 06:34:53 PM sestes no, change the subject as fast as possable
2013-10-15 06:34:56 PM kenneyjk29 If we want them to overlap in january is that ok?
2013-10-15 06:35:03 PM kathyhughes I had to remove people all the time....
2013-10-15 06:35:08 PM bdappert my company has already paid for both at time of my registration for part1
2013-10-15 06:35:10 PM kelsey827 i address, redirect, separate and try to diffuse
2013-10-15 06:35:13 PM sestes if it getts to bad then yes
2013-10-15 06:35:18 PM saraheve05 we have before also. i always have the director handle it
2013-10-15 06:35:19 PM sarah11393 what would they do?
2013-10-15 06:35:21 PM kathyhughes I would wait until Feb Kenny
2013-10-15 06:35:25 PM jcheney i had a resident very young bully me once lol I wanted to quit
2013-10-15 06:35:34 PM adaigrepont76 Try to talk with them to stop or help the situation
2013-10-15 06:35:35 PM kelsey827 some can be quit challenging
2013-10-15 06:35:39 PM kathyhughes as we have a couple of weeks off in Dec....Shhhh don't tell anyone!
2013-10-15 06:35:40 PM kelsey827 quite
2013-10-15 06:35:43 PM kenneyjk29 Working in a psych hospital...having to ask ppl to leave group or consistently requiring verbal redirection is norm
2013-10-15 06:35:50 PM rabille86 and bullying isn't as obvious all the time
2013-10-15 06:35:55 PM kalamclemore sometimes I have to have my admin address the situation.
2013-10-15 06:35:59 PM rabille86 there can be quite a few passive aggressive residents
2013-10-15 06:36:03 PM sarah11393 we have a resident that if she doesnt get her way then and there, she will throw a fit!
2013-10-15 06:36:04 PM bdappert was that for me?
2013-10-15 06:36:10 PM bdappert the shhh?
2013-10-15 06:36:10 PM angiemcentire lol thats funn
2013-10-15 06:36:10 PM kathyhughes My psych residents were given three warnings and out
2013-10-15 06:36:15 PM kelsey827 if the resident is high functioning i will typically ask what is going on and why they are acting that way and they will tell me
2013-10-15 06:36:17 PM dgauntlett sometimes we have issues with roommates
2013-10-15 06:36:19 PM kathyhughes No Brandy
2013-10-15 06:36:20 PM meg kathy I am having a hard time getting my practicum advisor to make time for me, I want to change to another one is that possible,. I am not getting the support from the one I have
2013-10-15 06:36:34 PM dtracie11 wow! i wish that would happen!
2013-10-15 06:36:40 PM pawood care plan behavior and then you can remove them anytime they act out in programs
2013-10-15 06:36:49 PM sestes We have one that likes mens attention, she start I fight if any other women get attention and she doesnt
2013-10-15 06:36:54 PM kenneyjk29 I had one today that was screaming and after 2 verbal redirections I had to fully stop my group to get a therapist to escort her back to the unit.
2013-10-15 06:36:54 PM kathyhughes You can change, you just have to have the new one sign a new Practicum advisor form and submit it
2013-10-15 06:36:56 PM saraheve05 thats what we do.
2013-10-15 06:36:58 PM dtracie11 We even have to call the cops for famillies pressing charges! ;(
2013-10-15 06:37:09 PM kelsey827 i write that they have inappropriate behaviors or voalizations depending on what they do and i dont get too specific in the care plan
2013-10-15 06:37:11 PM scalabrese yes i give them three strikes and you are out as well
2013-10-15 06:37:25 PM kathyhughes I would place that in their care plans and make sure it was covered in the progress notes
2013-10-15 06:37:36 PM sestes Just the form not the whole thing right, I have tio change also
2013-10-15 06:37:44 PM kathyhughes the whole thing
2013-10-15 06:37:48 PM meg I have another one who will be able to maske the time forme. I thought that wpould be the procedure. I will do it tomorrow
2013-10-15 06:37:53 PM kathyhughes sorry but we have to be conistant
2013-10-15 06:38:01 PM sarah11393 oh my hahaha. We have a woman that is like that too! she gets that way with an employee. she flirts with him, and gets very mad when he talks to other woman, whether its other residents or woman employees
2013-10-15 06:38:04 PM sestes ok
2013-10-15 06:38:27 PM kathyhughes I would make sure that all those behaviors are in the care plans
2013-10-15 06:38:29 PM kenneyjk29 we have to place it in a progress note, incident note, incident report and a RT incident report
2013-10-15 06:38:38 PM meg oh no, so many behavior issues
2013-10-15 06:38:42 PM sestes She does the same thing, women sometimes will not come if they know she coming
2013-10-15 06:38:43 PM pawood that staff member needs to be talked to
2013-10-15 06:38:44 PM kathyhughes Right....document, document, document
2013-10-15 06:38:47 PM jcheney new reality TV show Residents behaving badly lol
2013-10-15 06:38:49 PM scalabrese yep
2013-10-15 06:38:54 PM kelsey827 kathy do we write out exactly what they say or just write inappropraite vocalizations
2013-10-15 06:38:57 PM kathyhughes LOL
2013-10-15 06:39:02 PM saraheve05 lol
2013-10-15 06:39:02 PM angiemcentire i mainly have a problem with them being to lazy
2013-10-15 06:39:03 PM sarah11393 hahahaha that funny
2013-10-15 06:39:06 PM scalabrese LOL
2013-10-15 06:39:09 PM dtracie11 we have to be specific!!!!
2013-10-15 06:39:14 PM meg i caint wair to work iin the AD staff
2013-10-15 06:39:35 PM kathyhughes I would write exactly what they said in the progress notes and save the inapprpriate behavior as ecidenced by................
2013-10-15 06:39:45 PM kathyhughes evidencied by
2013-10-15 06:39:56 PM kenneyjk29 when I was working at the state, I learned that if it isnt written down, it never happened....so I am an over-documenting criminal at my hospital...nursing staff often get annoyed w me because I make my "voice" heard in the charts lol.
2013-10-15 06:40:12 PM scalabrese lol
2013-10-15 06:40:16 PM sarah11393 well good for you!
2013-10-15 06:40:28 PM meg lots of paper documentation
2013-10-15 06:40:29 PM pawood better to be safe then sorry later on down the raod
2013-10-15 06:40:31 PM scalabrese better safe than sorry
2013-10-15 06:40:34 PM kathyhughes Sounds like a good plan
2013-10-15 06:40:36 PM kelsey827 so i have a resident who cant handle group but they constantly put her in the activity room to get her out of the hall (which is where she wants to be) and she will grunt and start to cry and say i want to leave i want to go home i want to call my mom where my mom i want to go home call my sister i need a ride to my house i wnat to go to my house get me out of here
2013-10-15 06:40:36 PM kenneyjk29 exactly
2013-10-15 06:40:41 PM sarah11393 yes definetely
2013-10-15 06:40:47 PM bdappert always
2013-10-15 06:40:53 PM saraheve05 yep
2013-10-15 06:41:03 PM kathyhughes So do you remove her?
2013-10-15 06:41:15 PM kelsey827 and then i have others who will get mad and yell across the table during bingo, girl dont come at me i will mess you up, who you think you talking to dont even swat at me i will knonck you to the ground
2013-10-15 06:41:26 PM angiemcentire kelsey we have one that is doing the same she keeps trying to get out the door
2013-10-15 06:41:29 PM rabille86 We had a lady who would spend the entire duration of group activities screaming for a cup of coffee
2013-10-15 06:41:44 PM kenneyjk29 Kelsey--have you tried 1:1 w her? slowly introduce her to getting use to being in the room. each session have her in the room a little longer
2013-10-15 06:41:45 PM kelsey827 i usually take her to the hall where she asks to be. she has a tramatic brain injury and the room is too much stim for her. we put her in the hall but she is a fall risk and she has fallen
2013-10-15 06:41:52 PM kalamclemore we have a few like that too
2013-10-15 06:41:55 PM kathyhughes And do you think that the staff encouraged that behavior?
2013-10-15 06:42:01 PM pawood i would remove her care plan progress note and speak to rn sup to direct the staff to stop
2013-10-15 06:42:04 PM kpachan I find it interesting when some staff have issues with residents they just think they can drop them off for activity interventions when it is clearly not appropriate
2013-10-15 06:42:11 PM sestes Yes, I let the charge Nurse handle it. Her daughter is in denile and getts upset with us
2013-10-15 06:42:12 PM dtracie11 we have a resident who bullys everyone!!! staff, residents, guests. its horrible, we try and remove her and she pushes, we try and talk to the faily and the refuse that she acts like that....ahhh what to do?
2013-10-15 06:42:42 PM kelsey827 yeah she eats in our room with the people who need assistance and then she stays there with small group, i keep the TV low and the lights low to keep it calm for her, but once they start bringing more people in she just falls apart... once there are a lot of people and the lights and the noise and talking or singing or music
2013-10-15 06:42:45 PM kathyhughes I think that the entire staff encourages the behavior and that they are to blame
2013-10-15 06:42:51 PM kpachan Staff education and finding the appropriate intervention is key
2013-10-15 06:42:56 PM pawood invite the family to programs with her
2013-10-15 06:43:03 PM jcheney omg staff and encouaging bad behavior dont get me started lol
2013-10-15 06:43:03 PM meg do these res needs medication?
2013-10-15 06:43:15 PM dgauntlett what about noise cancelling head phones?
2013-10-15 06:43:16 PM rabille86 I've seen CNAs and RNs alike treat residents as if they aren't even there
2013-10-15 06:43:19 PM sestes needs something
2013-10-15 06:43:29 PM sarah11393 i hate when cnas and nurses do that
2013-10-15 06:43:35 PM dtracie11 the family doesnt come around ever, they just decline. they even sign her care plan via email
2013-10-15 06:43:36 PM kathyhughes No we need staff to positively reinforce the good behavior
2013-10-15 06:43:37 PM pawood me to
2013-10-15 06:43:38 PM rabille86 I've seen an RN page a cna to come answer a call light
2013-10-15 06:43:39 PM saraheve05 me too!
2013-10-15 06:43:44 PM kalamclemore we have an aide that drops off a very loud resident to activities all the time. she disrupts and makes it a unpleasant experience for everyone
2013-10-15 06:43:45 PM kelsey827 her daughter is a nurse in the facility. she is on medication.
2013-10-15 06:43:47 PM kenneyjk29 staff deserve the "break" but not at the cost of the other residents enjoyment of the activity...1:1 would be the route best taken...but the staff need to also be trained in what interventions...activity wise will assist in her behavior....
2013-10-15 06:43:48 PM meg Mabey there is some deppression involved
2013-10-15 06:43:53 PM jjessup We have a resident with attention seeking behaviors that said she fell after BINGO. everyone was certain she didn't, including the DON. When we checked the cameras... SHE HAD FALLEN. and picked herself up very quickly while staff was checking a card. Sometimes even our problem residents need to be taken seriously.
2013-10-15 06:43:54 PM angiemcentire we have a place called oceans that we send them to tthe place gets the meds straight
2013-10-15 06:43:54 PM kpachan Yes indeed about reinforcing positive behavior!
2013-10-15 06:44:01 PM shannond true
2013-10-15 06:44:06 PM kenneyjk29 unfortuantly, it has to be consistant from activities to staff...
2013-10-15 06:44:21 PM ssdietary I'm big into the documentation-
2013-10-15 06:44:22 PM kathyhughes So when I win the lottery I am inviting all staff to a free movie
2013-10-15 06:44:23 PM kelsey827 she wont even let me do a hand massage or a manicure... once she talks about home you cant even redirect with coffee or a conversation she starts rying and you cant do anything

2013-10-15 06:46:48 PM sarah11393 I try to help the nurses out as much as i can... answering call lights, but sometimes they do need thier aides for the bathroom, or other reasons

2013-10-15 06:47:10 PM jjessup I am a CNA, so when I cant find staff (if the resident is a 1assist) I take them. I wouldn't want to hold it

2013-10-15 06:47:56 PM sarah11393 there have been a couple times when i have actually taken a resident to the bathroom....if i know they are a one assist. but i dont want to get into trouble for that
2013-10-15 06:47:56 PM dgauntlett but i have to know the resident and know their abilities
2013-10-15 06:47:58 PM pawood we are not allowed to at our facility only cna or nurse
2013-10-15 06:48:08 PM kathyhughes We all got inserviced by PT on how to transfer residents

2013-10-15 06:49:16 PM kenneyjk29 I double as a lead tech on the unit and an activities person ...so I will jump in and help if a pt hs a need that needs to be met, but I swear our nurrsing staff is horrible...yesterday...a CNA was sitting next to me and "didnt hear" the pt yelling that she needed to go to the bathroom...the patient was sitting directly accross from us!
2013-10-15 06:49:23 PM kalamclemore wow
