2019-08-13 05:58:46 PM chiquitacdelaney OK THANKS THE FIRST FEW ASSISGNMENT ARE OK ITS JUST WHEN IT SEEMS LIKE WHEN FINISH ONE HERE COMES ANOTHER
2019-08-13 05:58:48 PM shelbydonahue I am finding it difficult to find activities that residents will self initiate when activity department is gone for the evening!
2019-08-13 05:58:54 PM kristinl91 Well for once my administrator actually ofered conctructive criticism instead of just being rude so it was a nice change for once
2019-08-13 05:58:56 PM mmhines38 so i am super frustrated and feel overwhelmed because i was kinda thrown into this position without any training. So working full time and school stress and state stress and not feeling like I totally know what im doing stress , yes lately i have been feeling a bit burnt
2019-08-13 05:59:02 PM jennagraves we have to offer 3 evening activities a week. so we do one during the week and then both sat and sunday we do evening activities
2019-08-13 05:59:03 PM kathyhughes Each week you have new assignments
2019-08-13 05:59:19 PM kristinl91 chess games, as long as you help them find a partner to play with
2019-08-13 05:59:44 PM ljohnson movie nite with popcorn and pjs if they like
2019-08-13 05:59:54 PM kathyhughes It is hard to have staff from other departments not appreciate what you do

2019-08-13 06:00:09 PM mnissenbaum that's right kathy
2019-08-13 06:00:10 PM mmhines38 the only person who has sat down to try and show me anything is our dieatary manager
2019-08-13 06:00:11 PM ljohnson we are blessed to have our own movie theater
2019-08-13 06:00:19 PM amberwilson My hardest part is having any patients in the program, I would like to see multiple people admitted to swing bed so we can actually do group activities. :)
2019-08-13 06:00:20 PM kathyhughes And what helps is to make a list of things that you have to do the next day before you leave
2019-08-13 06:00:22 PM tammiehall25 My facility only offers movies as of now. I'm hoping once I'm there long enough I can change that. I feel like a movie now and then is a nice way to wrap up the day but not every night!
2019-08-13 06:00:26 PM kristinl91 we have 4 evening activities each week, they usually consist of bowling or socials on the patio, movie night, etcc. tonight was Pizza and Casin night
2019-08-13 06:00:29 PM ronda I had no training either to speak of
2019-08-13 06:00:31 PM kathyhughes and that includes course work
2019-08-13 06:00:33 PM drewenriquez I think within this job itself, my frustration is when people think we just play cards and play bingo. They dont know the depth of what we all do
2019-08-13 06:00:38 PM kristinl91 *Casino
2019-08-13 06:00:38 PM ljohnson we do monday nite
2019-08-13 06:00:48 PM lmassey1 i didnt either ronda
2019-08-13 06:01:25 PM drewenriquez my other frustrations are just having multiple jobs and school so i feel a little burnt out trying to manage them all. But i'm trying my best.
2019-08-13 06:01:25 PM mmhines38 do we have to have 3 night activities that are ran by us or can they be self supporting activites
2019-08-13 06:01:30 PM chiquitacdelaney I AGREE WITH u drewenriquez

2019-08-13 06:01:37 PM kristinl91 i feel that one, people think and treat us like glorified babysitters

2019-08-13 06:02:01 PM amandas in sept we will start having later activities 3x a week
2019-08-13 06:02:08 PM mnissenbaum I prepare the night before; this is everyday routine. sometimes when its alot on my plate, I live early and come back the next day early and start my day with positivity.
2019-08-13 06:02:15 PM jess27 Hello everyone!!!
2019-08-13 06:02:16 PM meganfallon I had a terrible day so thats easy. Our long term units are blending right in with our dementia unit. We are FILLED with dementia patients on every floor and its so difficult trying to plan for the upcoming month to find dementia friendly activities that wont drive high functioning residents away. This is also leading to so many fall risks and with that being said getting CNAS on board has been a hassle. We are supposed to have one in the room with us at al times now but of course that doesnt happen.... and yes kristin thats EXACTLY how I feel too
2019-08-13 06:02:20 PM ronda Busy boxes are great for the evenings
2019-08-13 06:02:31 PM melodyr I agree as well drewenriquez
2019-08-13 06:02:32 PM amandas kristinl91 thats excatly how i feel
2019-08-13 06:03:11 PM tammiehall25 a movie theater.......thats nice!
2019-08-13 06:03:20 PM ljohnson i saw a boardd once that had like locks doorknobs ect things to tinker with
2019-08-13 06:03:40 PM melodyr We have carts with activities on them on each wing!
2019-08-13 06:03:44 PM kathyhughes Each day you should do one thing for the course...remember that many of your faciliities paid for it so they should give you the time to do the work
2019-08-13 06:04:11 PM ronda So many of my swingbed patients just say they want to visit and then I catch flack of why arent they doing other things...
2019-08-13 06:04:11 PM melodyr Honestly w
2019-08-13 06:04:19 PM kathyhughes and I found that if I kept things simple and didn't think that I had to outdo myself for activities it worked better
2019-08-13 06:05:05 PM chiquitacdelaney we all know activities seem easy to the ppl who arent actually dealing with 50 residents at a time with 50 different personiality then come home to demanding husband boyfriend r kid period the of activities never ending
2019-08-13 06:05:18 PM kathyhughes That Ronda is easy...you have to leave items in their room so people will know that you were there
2019-08-13 06:05:46 PM lmassey1 my issue is that i am the only person doing activities. No assistants..and we have some fairly demanding residents. They are always raring to go...which is awesome, just makes it hard to find time to plan things, execute the activities, go to meetings and school work as well. I am hanging in there, its just a juggling act
2019-08-13 06:05:46 PM kristinl91 chiquita thats the truth!!
2019-08-13 06:05:59 PM ronda I leave all kinds of things for them to do and to show I was there
2019-08-13 06:06:06 PM quiana enter the chat room
2019-08-13 06:06:27 PM ronda crossword puzzles, coloring sheets, small snacks, notecards
2019-08-13 06:06:29 PM chiquitacdelaney thanks kristinl91
2019-08-13 06:06:29 PM kathyhughes Yes I am sure that you do....so that staff knows that you were there.....Good job...
2019-08-13 06:06:44 PM kathyhughes And Thank-you notes for spending time with you???
2019-08-13 06:06:51 PM amandas i bring a welcome letter, a little bag of treats and the daily chronicles for that week to their rooms
2019-08-13 06:07:02 PM julielynnmincek this has nothing to do with our topic but for MEPAP part 2 when you do at your own pace is there still weekly chats?
2019-08-13 06:07:14 PM julielynnmincek because i learn so much from these chats i enjoy them.
2019-08-13 06:07:27 PM vanessawatson Good idea Amandas
2019-08-13 06:07:28 PM amberwilson Thats what I do Ronda, I find out what their interest are whether it be puzzles, word searches, etc. Then when I make my rounds twice daily I see if they are willing to do some kind of craft. usually they just want to socialize or go outside for some sunshine therapy
2019-08-13 06:07:32 PM melodyr I find that it's really hard to find time during the day for class work, with helping in the activity room, attending meetings, assessments (all), upcoming events, etc.
2019-08-13 06:07:57 PM ronda Yes ma'am. Thanking them for their time and a little snack
2019-08-13 06:07:59 PM kathyhughes OK...Time is up! You get that everyone has their own challenges and yet we all share the same vocation
2019-08-13 06:08:09 PM mnissenbaum why CNA think that they are over Activity Director? I have this problem with most of them; this including Housekeeping. but I don't let that bother me, I swip and mop; I take care of Residents; therefore, I let them show them that I can do that and more. yes, some people will say that I will give them a bad habit, because then they will be waiting for me to do it myself.
