2020-08-12 07:12:42 PM rachelordille yes! Sometimes we help out the cnas by refilling waters too
2020-08-12 07:12:54 PM 16380 We have those, but we are short on staff now. So its hard to get everyone.
2020-08-12 07:13:04 PM jford124 we do hydration pops and water cart.

2020-08-12 07:13:40 PM 16380 I feel like they need a lot of cueing to sip and when they are in their rooms we cant do that as much.
2020-08-12 07:13:45 PM jadehsmith Mocktail hour
2020-08-12 07:13:55 PM rachelordille yes we do mocktails and coffee carts

2020-08-12 07:14:00 PM jford124 mocktails are fun and something my rehab(short term) residents love
2020-08-12 07:14:02 PM dana1 I try to also give them popsicles once in awhile
2020-08-12 07:14:09 PM pjbell pina coloadas are a favorite
2020-08-12 07:14:11 PM rachelordille yeah kayla i agree

2020-08-12 07:16:42 PM jford124 beach ball is good thanks
2020-08-12 07:16:51 PM rachelordille yes! Ours asks the residents questions like how important to you is it to wear clothes you like, etc.
2020-08-12 07:16:52 PM jadehsmith only problem with ball toss is you cant disinfect the ball inbetween residents touching it
2020-08-12 07:17:00 PM 16380 We work very closely with MDS, sometimes they ask us about the residents because we spend the most time with them. I do Section B, F. I hate CAAs.
2020-08-12 07:17:04 PM dana1 It is overwhelming reading the other sections of the MDS
2020-08-12 07:17:04 PM kaylazoccole we sit in our chairs in a circle and kick the beach ball we call it chair soccer
2020-08-12 07:17:34 PM pjbell we sanitize after every resident with bleach wipes
2020-08-12 07:17:41 PM rachelordille I feel like i know so much about the residents too just from doing the mds
2020-08-12 07:17:55 PM pjbell yes gets more info
2020-08-12 07:17:58 PM kaylazoccole i have sanitizing spray so i spray their hands before all activites and games
2020-08-12 07:18:11 PM kaylazoccole the disenfect after use too
2020-08-12 07:18:32 PM pjbell for change in interest yearly

2020-08-12 07:19:13 PM pjbell no just f but i do ask on the assessment
2020-08-12 07:19:19 PM jadehsmith I use nursing information when it comes to any thing physical
2020-08-12 07:19:29 PM jadehsmith for cognition social services.
2020-08-12 07:19:31 PM pjbell me too
2020-08-12 07:19:39 PM jford124 i think social services does b in my building
2020-08-12 07:19:43 PM pjbell yes
2020-08-12 07:19:52 PM rachelordille i like to read through the care plan to find out that information as well
2020-08-12 07:19:58 PM pjbell they have like 3
2020-08-12 07:20:00 PM kaylazoccole can someone briefly describe the different letters of the mds
2020-08-12 07:20:15 PM jford124 i do too. it helps me know my residents better
2020-08-12 07:20:16 PM lbetts1992 left the chat room
2020-08-12 07:20:40 PM rachelordille i only know ours is f i havent looked at the other sections too much.
2020-08-12 07:20:55 PM pjbell like A theough H on activity mds
2020-08-12 07:20:56 PM rachelordille sorry!
2020-08-12 07:21:22 PM dana1 My social worker gave me a book today called
2020-08-12 07:21:31 PM jford124 i dont know the letters but i know kitchen has one, therapy, admissions, social services. im not sure who else
2020-08-12 07:21:42 PM dana1 My social worker at work gave me a book today called
2020-08-12 07:22:10 PM dana1 MDS 3.0 Care PLan Cookbook
2020-08-12 07:22:25 PM rachelordille sounds interesting
2020-08-12 07:22:48 PM jford124 nursing has one also. that would be a very helpful book
2020-08-12 07:22:49 PM pjbell section A nursing home assessment
2020-08-12 07:23:11 PM pjbell section B Hearing, speech and vision
2020-08-12 07:23:12 PM jadehsmith is anyone else a little confused about mandatory chat sessions? or can someone explain it to me
2020-08-12 07:23:19 PM 16380 Yeah i do section b and f, i find out if the resident has or needs hearing aids or glasses to be able to do activities. If they need a communication board or any means to communicate with staff.
2020-08-12 07:23:49 PM pjbell section C cognition patterns
2020-08-12 07:23:53 PM dana1 Good idea. thanks
2020-08-12 07:23:55 PM jford124 im glad im not the only one that doesnt completely get mandatory chat sessions
2020-08-12 07:24:09 PM rachelordille what are you confused about specifically
2020-08-12 07:24:11 PM 16380 If it goes more into depth like cataract or eye drops then the MDS nurses add to it.
2020-08-12 07:24:12 PM pjbell D mood
2020-08-12 07:24:23 PM dana1 Got it
2020-08-12 07:24:37 PM pjbell E Behavior
2020-08-12 07:24:37 PM jadehsmith We have to do a certain amount?
2020-08-12 07:24:48 PM rachelordille yeah we have to attend 4
2020-08-12 07:25:04 PM jadehsmith how do we show we did 4 im sorry im so confused
2020-08-12 07:25:35 PM pjbell it says to write a summary of chat
2020-08-12 07:25:42 PM rachelordille and submit basically a half page summary in the 12 font and double spaced with our heading like the written assignments and submit it under the live chat section
2020-08-12 07:25:57 PM rachelordille does that make sense?
2020-08-12 07:25:58 PM jford124 so we just have to actively chat back and forth about the assigned topic for an hour and we have completed the assignment right?
2020-08-12 07:26:09 PM rachelordille no
2020-08-12 07:26:22 PM rachelordille you have to submit the summary to get credit
2020-08-12 07:26:29 PM pjbell that is for this assignment
2020-08-12 07:26:31 PM jford124 okay i read the part about writing thanks
2020-08-12 07:26:40 PM jadehsmith so subit it like our other assignments that what i read but i wasnt to sure of myself
2020-08-12 07:27:31 PM jadehsmith we summerize what we talked about and then send it in with our topic name right
2020-08-12 07:27:39 PM pjbell do you interview residents or the family
2020-08-12 07:27:55 PM kaylazoccole depending on the cognition
2020-08-12 07:27:57 PM rachelordille yes! i click on the specific live chat date and topic and at the bottom of that page after it describes what the topic is you can upload your half page summary there
2020-08-12 07:28:10 PM rachelordille yes jadehsmith
2020-08-12 07:28:17 PM jford124 so E behaviors is actually a really helpful tab. you can learn a lot about a resident from it
2020-08-12 07:28:21 PM kaylazoccole usually try first with the resident then if i have to talk to family i do that second
2020-08-12 07:28:51 PM rachelordille and yeah pj it varies from resident to resident
2020-08-12 07:28:52 PM jford124 we interview both for our quarterly mds.
2020-08-12 07:29:01 PM pjbell i do both also. yes for B thers much to read
2020-08-12 07:29:06 PM rachelordille yeah it never hurts to do both
2020-08-12 07:29:09 PM dana1 I would think the resident but sometimes you will have to get more informtion fromthe family members.
2020-08-12 07:29:10 PM jadehsmith Thank you!
2020-08-12 07:29:38 PM pjbell sometimes they dont know the resident like we do
2020-08-12 07:29:42 PM jadehsmith we interview for annual new admit and change of status or readmit
2020-08-12 07:30:05 PM pjbell readmit no but the rest yes
2020-08-12 07:30:07 PM jford124 yes sometimes you find out differnent things. some times the resident wont complain to you but will tell family. its actually really helpful to do both
2020-08-12 07:30:10 PM jadehsmith family can be helpful but i always try with the resident first
2020-08-12 07:30:19 PM rachelordille and for this chat today who is the moderater who is submitting everyones names for credit
2020-08-12 07:30:37 PM jadehsmith how do we do that?
2020-08-12 07:30:42 PM pjbell i took all the names down
2020-08-12 07:30:56 PM rachelordille thank you!
2020-08-12 07:31:08 PM pjbell just checking where i post? to forum week 2

2020-08-12 07:31:31 PM rachelordille yeah i think you just reply to it with the date of the chat and everyones names
2020-08-12 07:31:53 PM pjbell sounds easy to me
2020-08-12 07:32:23 PM pjbell i have 8 names. someone left
2020-08-12 07:32:28 PM dana1 left the chat room
2020-08-12 07:32:29 PM dana1 enter the chat room
2020-08-12 07:32:54 PM jford124 so do you guys use any of the information from the mds to structure your activites?
2020-08-12 07:33:11 PM jadehsmith I try
2020-08-12 07:33:21 PM pjbell yes for their favorite activities
2020-08-12 07:33:29 PM jadehsmith I like to use it now especially for 1:1 visits since covid
2020-08-12 07:33:44 PM rachelordille yes agreed jadehsmith

2020-08-12 07:36:37 PM rachelordille they open up more when you do that
2020-08-12 07:36:49 PM jadehsmith i had a woman whos son was sneaking her nips through the window

2020-08-12 07:37:12 PM pjbell i bring a dounit and coffee and hang for a half hour
2020-08-12 07:37:37 PM 16380 We are on the 2nd floor and 3rd floor so it will be hard to sneak snacks like that. Window visits are hard as well.
2020-08-12 07:37:50 PM jadehsmith no matter what i do for them its never good enough i was called the C word today
2020-08-12 07:37:55 PM rachelordille yeah i have residents that are like that too, its hard but maybe try to find something you both like

Like parade style.we barely started doing group activities again. so i have to make the calendars again. But with facetimes and hydration carts and 1:1 visits. I am having a hard time making the new schdule. Most of my staff are also CNAs so they get taken advantage of.

2020-08-12 07:49:20 PM rachelordille and i would suggest using cards you can clean with sanitizer, we gave our residents a set of three cards that they keep in their rooms with bags of bingo chips that we collect and clean for them every so often

2020-08-12 07:51:32 PM 16380 Someone told me that they use the bingo cards that have sliders. You just slide the piece. But you have to get them online.

2020-08-12 07:52:54 PM 16380 Its so hard to call out the numbers wearing the shield and mask. so we use the computer that calls and displays the numbers. We also do have music bingo.

2020-08-12 07:57:04 PM 16380 They are these headsets that can be used with hearing aids, or without but they amplify everything. They come with a mic and you can speak into it. YOu can use ten at a time. Sometimes residents get distracted. so they come in handy. also you can have silent dance parties.
2020-08-12 07:57:20 PM 16380 or use them for outings.... whenever that is allowed again
2020-08-12 07:57:30 PM 16380 we use them for facetimes too
