2013-05-21 06:14:43 PM 29645 i work every saturday its so layed back you and the residents have a blast doing what ever they want
2013-05-21 06:14:45 PM sharonbeseda It can be relaxing
2013-05-21 06:14:49 PM amystewart i lot of my residents stay in bed on the weekendw
2013-05-21 06:14:51 PM catejuvenal I have not been invited to attend a meeting yet
2013-05-21 06:14:56 PM amystewart weekends
2013-05-21 06:14:56 PM sharonbeseda Have not worked weekend where I am now through
2013-05-21 06:14:59 PM letroces4 we have a manager of the day that works one day in the weekend, then gets a day off in the weekday
2013-05-21 06:15:06 PM hmc123 Amy you should talk to the nurses...
2013-05-21 06:15:09 PM jamiecraig what cate
2013-05-21 06:15:13 PM amystewart why?
2013-05-21 06:15:28 PM jess8299 i find our residents are in bed to on weekends
2013-05-21 06:15:28 PM amystewart is this something to be concerned about?
2013-05-21 06:15:30 PM wellprepared85 i dont work weekends
2013-05-21 06:15:30 PM kathyhughes There are more residents in bed on the weekends because nursing is "short"
2013-05-21 06:15:31 PM hmc123 Is that the residents choice or them being lazy
2013-05-21 06:15:33 PM letroces4 i have not gotten my turn to work on weekends yet though ive volunteered and came in a couple of saturdays/ sundays already.. hehe..
2013-05-21 06:15:43 PM catejuvenal I know it is weird, however I am just a volunteer
2013-05-21 06:15:53 PM sharonbeseda That is what I've been told
2013-05-21 06:15:54 PM nvite664 right weekends are bad for nursing
2013-05-21 06:15:58 PM amystewart not at our place always have the same numbers during the week
2013-05-21 06:15:58 PM carlota36 i always heard that the week end staff are very lazy
2013-05-21 06:16:02 PM lynnet Our community would not tolerate the residents staying in bed
2013-05-21 06:16:04 PM jamiecraig i c
2013-05-21 06:16:06 PM kathyhughes It happens even in "good" facilities
2013-05-21 06:16:13 PM kathyhughes thats good Jeri
2013-05-21 06:16:22 PM carlota36 left the chat room
2013-05-21 06:16:22 PM wellprepared85 thats true
2013-05-21 06:16:24 PM kathyhughes I would have liked that!
2013-05-21 06:16:28 PM carlota36 enter the chat room
2013-05-21 06:16:30 PM sharonbeseda I have heard that more accidents happen on the weekend
2013-05-21 06:16:35 PM lynnet not true
2013-05-21 06:16:38 PM letroces4 knock on wood....
2013-05-21 06:16:42 PM kathyhughes So I would also do more 1-1 activities
2013-05-21 06:16:44 PM letroces4 it doesnt happen...
2013-05-21 06:16:57 PM kathyhughes You are right Sharon
2013-05-21 06:17:01 PM letroces4 although accidents can happen any time
2013-05-21 06:17:04 PM amystewart who are the right candidate for 1 on 1
2013-05-21 06:17:13 PM 29645 yes Kathy a great time for lil
2013-05-21 06:17:28 PM kathyhughes mostly residents who prefer to stay on their own
2013-05-21 06:17:28 PM wellprepared85 well at my facility it seems that more accidents happen on the weekends
2013-05-21 06:17:33 PM jess8299 I love doing 1 on 1 !
2013-05-21 06:17:36 PM lynnet i have not noticed more accidents on a weekend at all.
2013-05-21 06:17:38 PM carlota36 I been to my nursing home on a weekend evening and I found 3 staff members sleeping on a empty bed
2013-05-21 06:17:39 PM letroces4 we usually put residents who are bed bound and unable to get to group activities and those without families
2013-05-21 06:17:44 PM mdatlenko My AD puts everyone who doesn't go to programs on 1:1 is this right?
2013-05-21 06:17:56 PM jamiecraig if they are of right mind a choose to not come and arnt exept of visits what do u do
2013-05-21 06:17:59 PM lynnet It shouldn't even be an issue that the weekend is more susceptible to accidents to my minid
2013-05-21 06:17:59 PM kathyhughes the folks that go to all the activities aren't on the list!
2013-05-21 06:18:00 PM amystewart cause there are some that are able to come out just chose not to
2013-05-21 06:18:11 PM catejuvenal Are you all allowed to go into residents rooms?
2013-05-21 06:18:20 PM kathyhughes Lets look at that...a moment
2013-05-21 06:18:31 PM letroces4 yes, true, some are able but just prefers independent activities
2013-05-21 06:18:31 PM 051979 We do 1:1 with those who do not participate in activities as well as those who seem to be in need of a friend to listen to...
2013-05-21 06:18:34 PM amystewart actually there would be like 20 or more that chose not to come out but can
2013-05-21 06:18:37 PM wellprepared85 because most of the nursing department are not their and the staff get lazy and dont really sometimes. Its really sad
2013-05-21 06:18:40 PM smmbruin10 we could go into rooms
2013-05-21 06:18:47 PM amystewart how would you do all them in one day
2013-05-21 06:18:52 PM kathyhughes If I don't want to go to your activities, (me personally) would I be on the 1-1 list?
2013-05-21 06:19:10 PM jamiecraig yeah
2013-05-21 06:19:11 PM hmc123 yes
2013-05-21 06:19:14 PM nvite664 thats how it is by us also Kathy
2013-05-21 06:19:16 PM motterjx i would say yes
2013-05-21 06:19:16 PM lynnet not if you are in AL
2013-05-21 06:19:22 PM ra419pena yes
2013-05-21 06:19:23 PM wellprepared85 yes
2013-05-21 06:19:25 PM kathyhughes why?
2013-05-21 06:19:26 PM amystewart so see them 2 times a week?
2013-05-21 06:19:29 PM jamiecraig then u just chart the incounter good or bad
2013-05-21 06:19:38 PM sharonbeseda hum
2013-05-21 06:19:44 PM jamiecraig up to 3
2013-05-21 06:19:49 PM lynnet Some residents can get offended if they are pushed too hard
2013-05-21 06:19:49 PM kathyhughes why would I be on your 1-1 list?
2013-05-21 06:19:50 PM wellprepared85 I work with dementia and alzheimers
2013-05-21 06:19:51 PM letroces4 but are you able to do activities in your room by yourself? like watch tv? listen to music?
2013-05-21 06:19:55 PM jess8299 Howlong does your 1 on 1 need to be to be documated...Because i have heard several answers..
2013-05-21 06:20:03 PM catejuvenal Kathy you would be on a 1 on 1 list until the time we could find an activity you were comfortable and interested in to be with others
2013-05-21 06:20:05 PM jamiecraig low participation level
2013-05-21 06:20:10 PM letroces4 i would just offer you activities which are independent and self directable...
2013-05-21 06:20:11 PM kathyhughes you are on the right track Elizabeth
2013-05-21 06:20:15 PM carlota36 week end are brutal, the residents always say i slept all week end... I hate it but it's their reality i almost wished i lived with them so i could continue taking care of them...
2013-05-21 06:20:16 PM angel4aml18 is it ok if a resident receives regular visits from family and friends to not have 1:1 visits with them since their social needs are being met?
2013-05-21 06:20:35 PM kathyhughes Right angel
2013-05-21 06:20:52 PM nvite664 we have 5x 3x 2x and 1x a week visits it works out quite well most of our rehab patients are the 1x a week
2013-05-21 06:21:03 PM motterjx what is a good time amount for a one to one
2013-05-21 06:21:15 PM sharonbeseda I have a lady that waits for treatments from mostly one nurse and she says that is why she cannot come many times. She stated she was always a loner-type
2013-05-21 06:21:17 PM kathyhughes If my social needs are being met by encuoraging my roommate to go to activities because I want to be alone in my room....
2013-05-21 06:21:24 PM mdatlenko where can I find state regulations because my AD doesnt do that
2013-05-21 06:21:26 PM jamiecraig ive been told its what they need its a personal plan so if they need 15 then good if they need 8 then do that
2013-05-21 06:21:41 PM nvite664 I think it depends on what you are doing and how they feel that day but I try not to go over 15 minutes
2013-05-21 06:21:52 PM jamiecraig document though
2013-05-21 06:21:52 PM letroces4 i guess it may work both ways if the resident that you encouraged to go out also enjoys the activities
2013-05-21 06:21:53 PM kathyhughes You will have to do a search for them Melissa in your states helath dept website
2013-05-21 06:22:02 PM mdatlenko 15 min is a good limit usually
2013-05-21 06:22:04 PM lynnet our dem/al unit does not allow time for very much one on one
2013-05-21 06:22:16 PM letroces4 ours too, we do 15-20 mins, 3x/week
2013-05-21 06:22:19 PM mdatlenko thankds
2013-05-21 06:22:19 PM 051979 yes you would be on our list as we try to reach out to those even if they don't want to leave their room. We would need to spend the time to find out how to meet their needs
2013-05-21 06:22:28 PM letroces4 so we divide them to 2 groups, MWF and tues, thurs and sat
2013-05-21 06:22:36 PM dscarbor enter the chat room
2013-05-21 06:22:41 PM kathyhughes How many people are on 1-1's in your facility Elizabeth?
2013-05-21 06:22:43 PM 051979 The time limit depends upon the resident and the conversation or activity you are doing.
2013-05-21 06:22:46 PM kathyhughes Hello Danna
2013-05-21 06:22:55 PM letroces4 right now we have 8 people on 1:!
2013-05-21 06:22:58 PM letroces4 1:1
2013-05-21 06:23:03 PM wellprepared85 we do 1-1 visits every other day for about the same time 15-20min
2013-05-21 06:23:06 PM jamiecraig we have a chart that has a point system on it it lets us know if they need 1 2 or 3 x's per week
2013-05-21 06:23:09 PM lynnet for AL we call, visit their room and encourage to attend but we do not push them if they say no - we have to document what was said and when on a daily list
2013-05-21 06:23:20 PM mdatlenko ha we have over 20
2013-05-21 06:23:26 PM letroces4 should have been 9 but we got the last resident to come to activities this week... yey!
2013-05-21 06:23:34 PM dscarbor Hi Kathy, I was in the wrong room along with several others.
2013-05-21 06:23:43 PM lynnet in other words, we do what we can to get them to activities but some people simply are not interested -
2013-05-21 06:24:01 PM kathyhughes So you spend 9 hours a week doing 1-1's
2013-05-21 06:24:07 PM letroces4 we only have 77 beds, and we do 2 activities, 2 groups, for the higher functioning and for the lower functioning
2013-05-21 06:24:17 PM jamiecraig you have to try and then document what happens good or bad
2013-05-21 06:24:25 PM kathyhughes There is NO regulations that states a 15 minute visit at all
2013-05-21 06:24:25 PM lynnet same here
2013-05-21 06:24:27 PM carlota36 I have a group that goes out side for smoking break and none of them would come to my activities so one day i when out side and started a conversation with some of them and asked them personal ???? about their life and family and i recorded that as a small group activity
2013-05-21 06:24:47 PM lynnet that is exactlyh what i would have done!
2013-05-21 06:24:47 PM letroces4 that is really good to know, i always stay atleast 15-20
2013-05-21 06:24:51 PM kathyhughes I always hung out with the smokers
2013-05-21 06:25:06 PM jamiecraig good
2013-05-21 06:25:13 PM kathyhughes So you spend 9 hours a week doing 1-1's!
2013-05-21 06:25:13 PM wellprepared85 thanks for the correction
2013-05-21 06:25:17 PM lynnet I'm a 'reformed smoker' so I ask them to blow the smoke in my direction because I still miss it
2013-05-21 06:25:33 PM 051979 We have a list of all residents and document when we visit and part of the conversation. I also have a volunteer that comes in twice a week for 2-3 hours and she tries to go in and visit with every resident she possibly can.
2013-05-21 06:25:39 PM carlota36 lol lyneth but i feel your pain sister....
2013-05-21 06:25:40 PM kathyhughes I took the cigar smokers once a week
2013-05-21 06:25:51 PM lynnet love cigars too!
2013-05-21 06:25:55 PM letroces4 im not good with math, but i think so... haha... i do rounds in the morning and spend some 1:1 already... so at the end of the day, i can do the ones i didn't visit...
2013-05-21 06:25:56 PM carlota36 lol
2013-05-21 06:26:03 PM 051979 We are a non smoking facility...
2013-05-21 06:26:05 PM lynnet lol carlota
2013-05-21 06:26:05 PM sharonbeseda Many of the ones that cannot do anything are brought in with all the rest. I can do hand massages, have aroma therapy, or nice music going. The other day I placed a baby doll in this particular womans arms ( she is mostly non-responsive) and as I watched her she began feeling of the doll. I saw her rubbing the fingers of the doll and appeared to be saying something real low
2013-05-21 06:26:14 PM jamiecraig us too
2013-05-21 06:26:35 PM kathyhughes but if you are documenting that you spend 15-20 minutes each time 3x a week then you had better rethink that
2013-05-21 06:26:42 PM letroces4 im happy though that 2 of our 1:1's today finally got up and had a haircut... so i took them to activities....
2013-05-21 06:26:52 PM jess8299 WOW allof you are lucky I only have 3aides and myself and 115 residents should i ask the Director for more staff...? We havent had any tags for anything .. knock woo
2013-05-21 06:26:54 PM jess8299 d
2013-05-21 06:26:55 PM catejuvenal Wow Sharon a breakthrough maybe
2013-05-21 06:26:58 PM amystewart why kathy
2013-05-21 06:27:06 PM letroces4 why kathy?
2013-05-21 06:27:24 PM letroces4 there's 2 of us working and we divide the 1:1
2013-05-21 06:27:25 PM nvite664 Kathy we just document what we do for the 1:1 not how long we spend with them
2013-05-21 06:27:38 PM kathyhughes Because surveyors have calculators and they calculate the time that you documneted
2013-05-21 06:27:40 PM 051979 I never document how much time just the outcome..
2013-05-21 06:27:46 PM letroces4 yes, i put down what i did and how the resident reacts
2013-05-21 06:27:53 PM lynnet interesting
2013-05-21 06:28:01 PM jamiecraig we toom a hit of not proving rehab resident enough 1 on 1 vitits and they were refusing
2013-05-21 06:28:04 PM amystewart so do just the outcome not the time right?
2013-05-21 06:28:08 PM letroces4 true....
2013-05-21 06:28:10 PM kathyhughes Writing the reaction is good...writting a time is not
2013-05-21 06:28:10 PM jamiecraig took*
2013-05-21 06:28:14 PM carlota36 i always do 10 to 15 mins
2013-05-21 06:28:31 PM carlota36 is that enough
2013-05-21 06:28:42 PM kathyhughes you write the responses and what a resident reacted to
2013-05-21 06:28:49 PM sarahdecollibus right
2013-05-21 06:28:56 PM kathyhughes depends on the resident Carlota
2013-05-21 06:29:02 PM sharonbeseda So never document the amount of time spent in 1-1s?
2013-05-21 06:29:08 PM kathyhughes Right
2013-05-21 06:29:13 PM dscarbor 10-15 min 1-1 is a long time
2013-05-21 06:29:14 PM jamiecraig ours depends on the residents needs sometimes 15 and others less
