2017-04-11 06:20:18 PM deb4321 Maybe some of you are putting to much on your calendars?
2017-04-11 06:20:19 PM jeant We don't have enough staff to do 1-1 activities very often- frustrating!
2017-04-11 06:20:20 PM auazuibke0114 1:1 visit can be a bit hard
2017-04-11 06:20:21 PM gailh I assign 1:1's . 30 of them!
2017-04-11 06:20:22 PM mblackstone10 moniques- yea, i train volunteers
2017-04-11 06:20:23 PM conniew I do not have any volunteers right now. they are hard to get and hard to keep. the faciltiy length of stay is 10-14 days and most people who come in and are interested in volunteering want more of a long term setting. they want to get to know the patients and keep seeing them over time. I hardly get to know the patients before they leave.
2017-04-11 06:20:25 PM cindymay I apologize if I started someting about the whole newsletter thing. As I said I very well may be mistaken
2017-04-11 06:20:27 PM loree18 YES Alive Imside was our last training session
2017-04-11 06:20:37 PM christinadepolo 1:1 cart, with radio , playing cards, books, magazines, read to residents, nail cart, artwork, puzzles, etc
2017-04-11 06:20:41 PM 1040417 if i didn't have so many meeting i could get a lot of work done
2017-04-11 06:20:44 PM marciatrimiew progers111781..does that mean that you cannot plan any activities without the director? We had a whole chapter of ideas. Check the calendars online for ideas and activity connection online...Great time to review surveys and see the residents interest

2017-04-11 06:21:33 PM tajk333 Thanks! I play music for them, but I just feel that it is hard to get their attention. Luckily, the one guy is a very talented guitarist so he stays busy. It is just difficult finding activities that interest them

2017-04-11 06:23:19 PM mblackstone10 moniques- I'm not sure what state you are in, but in MD students are required to get services hours. I put ours through extensive training
2017-04-11 06:23:21 PM marciatrimiew We had a guest speaker from the Alzheimer Assoc today...very informative..

2017-04-11 06:23:41 PM asjodin how did you get a speaker from alzheimer assoc.
2017-04-11 06:23:42 PM 972940 For volunteers check with the high school allot of the kids needs to get volunteer time in to graduate at least in our school system.

2017-04-11 06:25:08 PM patfuller Kathy it seems to me that just about every persn on this chat has some form of activity directors background. So I really don't understand any of these thoughts on regulations that are peeermitted by the state. It looks like I'm far behind
2017-04-11 06:25:10 PM ellenmfm weve had high school kids too. they love it! but they are few and far between

Then an ouple of months another anted to join and soon thir room wasn't big enough, so we had to give them one of our small dining rooms. 2017-04-11 06:26:45 PM jacquelinememenza Does anyone here have a short term therapy unit? Our administrator really wants these people involved in activities because they are the ones rating our facility when they get discharged...but its hard to get them out of their rooms because most of them just want to do physical therapy and get out as soon as possible. They dont want to associate with the long term residents
2017-04-11 06:27:01 PM aleda for volunteers

2017-04-11 06:27:32 PM alexandrac We have short term respite AL that are similar, get in get out.
2017-04-11 06:27:32 PM deb4321 That is normal for them to not want to be a part
2017-04-11 06:27:34 PM gailh I go and talk to them, talk up the activities, become friends, etc
2017-04-11 06:27:35 PM asjodin We have a short term unit. Usually those people do not want to participate either. We include them in 1:1's and make sure they have independent activities in their rooms
2017-04-11 06:27:36 PM alexandrac Im in Washington
2017-04-11 06:27:40 PM jacquelinememenza gailh are you able to encourage them to participate or do you have special activities that are more appealing to them?

2017-04-11 06:28:57 PM conniew I am in a short term facility. They love happy hour and our room to room leisure cart. most of them stay in their room, they are quite social if we go see them, but just want therapy, meals, to rest and go home ASAP. they are able to self-direct options as long as we keep them supplied with easy items. word puzzles, books, magazines, arts & crafts, jigsaw puzzles
2017-04-11 06:29:02 PM alexandrac I'll give it a look
