2017-05-09 06:46:02 PM kbertocci Our FB page is dramatically growing. It's a great way to reach out to the community. The family loves seeing their pictures. If you have the residents sign a release form, you can pose their pictures online. We have a list of everyone who said "no" to social media and take it to every event with the camera to ensure we don't accidentally post their picture.

2017-05-09 06:47:01 PM lanaf marilumolina; we had one last year for Nursing home week. They were "Amazing", but they cost over $500.00 for and hour. They were worth every penny!!!
2017-05-09 06:47:08 PM nikiawyche what are some activities that everyone is offering after dinner
2017-05-09 06:47:08 PM siadufour I'm jealous of everyone that has activities professionals working nights and weekends :( we have one activity professional per area (one for healthcare, one for AL, and one for independent) and we all work the same hours. Mon-Fri 8-4:30.

2017-05-09 06:48:19 PM courtneyr2009 its just as important to have activities on the weekend as it is during the week
2017-05-09 06:48:22 PM cindymay WE used to work until 10:00 until jsut recently
2017-05-09 06:48:23 PM preinhardt each assistant has their own responsibiblties aside from large group activites
2017-05-09 06:48:26 PM patfuller Its hard getting some of the CNA's to help with after hours activities because they want to have all of thier residents in bed before the activity even get started> It seems right after super everyone wants their patient in bed.
2017-05-09 06:48:28 PM loriann Swell!

2017-05-09 06:48:50 PM jacquelinememenza patfuller! Same with ours, hard to get them to assist with anything
2017-05-09 06:49:01 PM preinhardt we have a set person for each shift
2017-05-09 06:49:08 PM taras I wished we could have a person come in part time on weekends. It seems like sometimes the CNAs run themselves ragged....sadly we aren't supposed to be getting overtime. I love our CNAs....we just need more of them!
2017-05-09 06:49:09 PM aprilgfoster i try to schedule volunteers on weekends, my Assistant works 10-3 on saturday
2017-05-09 06:49:13 PM care3 cnas dont help with much
2017-05-09 06:49:14 PM cindymay Our dementia program runs lateWe start our relax station at 9:00 for those who wander
2017-05-09 06:49:15 PM sherralcawthon My second week as AD, state came in for a full book. We almost got IJed over "abuse by seclusion". They decided to make it only a tag because I was new, unlicensed, and working my tail off
2017-05-09 06:49:18 PM andreapeleg I have a Saturday sunday activiites assistant. My facility policy is to have 7 days of activities
2017-05-09 06:49:19 PM kbertocci I am the director and work 8-4. I have 5 staff under me (1 full-time, 3part-time, 1 casual) that work anywhere from 8:30am-8pm M-F or 10:30-3:30 on Saturday and Sunday. We all work very well together.
2017-05-09 06:49:20 PM nikiawyche any suggestion for night act
2017-05-09 06:49:21 PM dominiquesow yes CNA wants to put them in bed soon as possible

2017-05-09 06:49:28 PM jammydelbosque On weekends I work from 8-5 so i could give the last smoking break which is at 4:30. I do paperwork as well.
2017-05-09 06:49:31 PM joanne44 Who is almost done the course??
2017-05-09 06:49:36 PM mblackstone10 i think facilities have a hard time meshing nursing and activities
2017-05-09 06:49:39 PM courtneyr2009 it seems to be a hit or miss with CNAs
2017-05-09 06:49:43 PM siadufour I feel guilty asking CNAs for help...they already do so much
2017-05-09 06:49:45 PM aleda my cnas loveactivities
2017-05-09 06:49:46 PM sherralcawthon I struggle BADLY with the staff wanting to help.
2017-05-09 06:49:49 PM jessicag87 since i started i created a sugestion box for activities my maintenance guy but some little folders outside my office i put coloring pages and colors if they desired to take some
2017-05-09 06:49:52 PM mblackstone10 but, have you tried including them in actitivities when staff is around
2017-05-09 06:49:57 PM marilumolina then you have to bringing up during your meetings with nursing
2017-05-09 06:50:01 PM preinhardt i struggle with getting CNAs to help assist with activites they don't think what i do requires much work and it is so frustrating!!!!
2017-05-09 06:50:02 PM courtneyr2009 i try to help them with meals so they will help me gather for activities
2017-05-09 06:50:02 PM mblackstone10 maybe they just don't know theyare wanteed
2017-05-09 06:50:02 PM andreapeleg FYI....weekend activites are important for families and tours because that's when they come (11am on a Tuesday)
2017-05-09 06:50:03 PM care3 im a cna also so i understand
2017-05-09 06:50:03 PM elvira06 Well my staff helps me in all the other nurse stations we have 5 dinning rooms and well We get to see every 105 in 1 week .. no one gets left behind that me. has the head thats one thing that i drive for. Not on my watch we are family .. and should act that way
2017-05-09 06:50:07 PM courtneyr2009 its def a team
2017-05-09 06:50:10 PM alennon our cnas are pretty good about helping
2017-05-09 06:50:10 PM tajk333 Are volunteers allowed to run activities by themselves?
2017-05-09 06:50:12 PM courtneyr2009 all for the residents
2017-05-09 06:50:15 PM care3 but the residents deserve better
2017-05-09 06:50:17 PM maryjane1 our cna's come up with more excuses.
2017-05-09 06:50:17 PM elaundress we have good staff that enjoys what they are doing and that makes a differnce in the Activity department
2017-05-09 06:50:19 PM jessicag87 i also have volunteers that come on saturday to do their nails and sunday church service
2017-05-09 06:50:21 PM melodyh Ive worked the floor with them so we are good with each other
2017-05-09 06:50:24 PM jammydelbosque YES, weekend activities are highly important!!!!
2017-05-09 06:50:27 PM aleda we r all cnas at my facility
2017-05-09 06:50:28 PM dominiquesow i am a cna too but we know the quality of life to be given to the residents
2017-05-09 06:50:34 PM aprilgfoster Do you have a large set area for activities?
2017-05-09 06:50:36 PM loriann We have great team even the DON brings people to activities
2017-05-09 06:50:40 PM jammydelbosque We wouldn't do weekend activities until recently
2017-05-09 06:50:41 PM dominiquesow rushing them to bed.... is not they are suppose to live

2017-05-09 06:50:47 PM marilumolina loriannn thats fantastic
2017-05-09 06:50:53 PM loriann I know right!
2017-05-09 06:50:56 PM nikiawyche act has a good relationship with the cna until a resident is giving them a hard way and I say that they have a right not to go but we are one team act is everyone job
2017-05-09 06:50:57 PM elvira06 CNA are the back bone of the facilty
2017-05-09 06:50:57 PM patfuller My CNA's will help me out durning the morning shift but in the evenings its so hard. I guess its because I start a activity at two-0-clock and they"re just coming on.
2017-05-09 06:51:02 PM sherralcawthon As a CNA, it is psart of my job to make sure there is a holistic appraoch to patient care. NEVER feel guilty about asking for their help. To level things out, I also help them with passing ice, trays, moving residents. In return I expect them to help me get residents to activities
2017-05-09 06:51:03 PM care3 i agree its like dinner goodnight
2017-05-09 06:51:09 PM jacquelinememenza we have trouble especially in the memory care unit because we end up having EVERY single person packed into the activity room with ONE activity assistant present and no CNA
2017-05-09 06:51:12 PM taras Loriann that is awesome....mine leaves whenever she wants to it seems....:(
2017-05-09 06:51:16 PM cindymay Our activity program runs 7:30am - 9:30pm every day, including the weekends
2017-05-09 06:51:18 PM preinhardt i think working in activites we have a differnt mind set them the CNAs they olny think of their physical wellbeing
2017-05-09 06:51:23 PM jessicag87 :(
2017-05-09 06:51:25 PM courtneyr2009 just keep working as a team
2017-05-09 06:51:28 PM bcramer I tried to get Mary Kay consultant to come to our faciity for free make-overs for the ladies for mother's day and was told they would not do it. We also did a style show for mother's day and served sparkling white grape juice in champagne glasses. They loved it.
2017-05-09 06:51:29 PM mblackstone10 cindymay wow
2017-05-09 06:51:33 PM kbertocci Our entire facility works together in bringing resident's to activities. It is very much appreciated. With 170 residents, it is difficult to gather them all with just a few people.
2017-05-09 06:51:34 PM mblackstone10 how do you cover that staff wise?
2017-05-09 06:51:41 PM marilumolina they work together at the end we all are here in this job for our residents
2017-05-09 06:51:42 PM nikiawyche we work close together we do a dining with friends program we we all bring in a home made dish and sit and eat with the residents

2017-05-09 06:52:21 PM patfuller really cindymay that seems like alot. What else do your facility have time for? You must have split shifts of AD to help out.

2017-05-09 06:53:05 PM cindymay We have two simotanously running activity programs everyday! one for the higher functioning and one for the lower

2017-05-09 06:53:40 PM kathyhughes Thats good Joanne
2017-05-09 06:53:41 PM taras We often try to get the other departments enthusastic and remind them that we are here for the residents, but not everyone sees it that way. I am thankful bc the nurses and CNAs on my wing are pretty awesome about things and helping me get residents to and from activiites..
2017-05-09 06:53:42 PM mblackstone10 cindymay that sounds great, but it wouldnt work in my setting
2017-05-09 06:53:43 PM jacquelinememenza no it doesn't come from the CNAS all the time, it can come from other department heads and the therapy departement especially

2017-05-09 06:55:09 PM jacquelinememenza Yes we are seen as the department that "plays games and keeps them entertained"

2017-05-09 06:55:15 PM cindymay everyone helps and they market our activity program as a reason for people to be admitting
2017-05-09 06:55:16 PM joanne44 Everyone works well together and love helping me get residents to activities
2017-05-09 06:55:16 PM jammydelbosque Sometimes I feel like i'm a nobody since I'm just the assistant
2017-05-09 06:55:17 PM jacquelinememenza Activities is too often seen as babysitting

2017-05-09 06:55:29 PM maryjane1 yes, it looks like we just have fun all day
2017-05-09 06:55:34 PM patfuller The work overload is the problem. But I'm willing to help out as much as possible because I have worked on the floor many of times and I can tell you it;s hard work> But if we all just help out each other we can make a huge differance
2017-05-09 06:55:38 PM preinhardt I am also an activites assistant
2017-05-09 06:55:38 PM jammydelbosque It's like if i dont exist especially because I only work in the weekends lol.
2017-05-09 06:55:38 PM care3 were always doing 1:1q
2017-05-09 06:55:40 PM elaundress If you couldn't do your job you wouldn't not be their. Stay confident and keep believing in your self.

2017-05-09 06:55:43 PM care3 1:1s
2017-05-09 06:55:46 PM taras Amen patfuller!!!
2017-05-09 06:55:51 PM cindymay a facility near us got cited by the state for that Aleda
2017-05-09 06:55:53 PM marilumolina we are a big part of the care of the residents
2017-05-09 06:55:54 PM dominiquesow yes that is what i was about to say

2017-05-09 06:56:22 PM dominiquesow they bring to the activity room those who are having behaviors and they ask us to keep them pacified
2017-05-09 06:56:25 PM taras I love my residents and truly feel I have found my place! These people are like family and there's nothing I wouldn't do for them!!
2017-05-09 06:56:26 PM andreapeleg the CNAs drop off inappropiate residents and fall risks to activities for babysitting
2017-05-09 06:56:27 PM marciatrimiew planning activities takes a lot of work. Most of the time I do my planning at home. Not enough time to do at work...
2017-05-09 06:56:27 PM melodyh quality of life is just as important as quality of care
2017-05-09 06:56:28 PM sherralcawthon The way I handled earning respect was to write down every little thing I had to do that day. Calendars, errands, activities, Matrix, errands. I no longer get blown off
2017-05-09 06:56:29 PM preinhardt We are treated as baby sitters when CNA do not want to smpend time on some more difficult resident they expect us to stop our work to sit with them etc
2017-05-09 06:56:37 PM jacquelinememenza oh yeah or often residents (especially short term therapy) don't really want to do the assessment
2017-05-09 06:56:38 PM lanaf That's the way it should be,sherralcawthon!! hen you help out anouther department they in turn will help you when you need it.
2017-05-09 06:56:41 PM aprilgfoster I did, I had a mail slot pot outside my office door for "Ideas, commets and questions". Everything else can go to my admin. She even backed me by saying with me taking over our numbers have incressed and residents are engaged during activities. I even had a few family members stop and tell my admin they like the new changes i have made.
2017-05-09 06:56:44 PM ericasouter communication is key in this type of setting
2017-05-09 06:56:47 PM elvira06 For June we are plannig to go to an Astors game.. thats going to be some work voluteers lol
2017-05-09 06:56:53 PM taras I love it melodyh! Quality of life is just as important as quality of care!!!

2017-05-09 06:57:02 PM kathyhughes And that is why its important to teach staff about the activities regulations

2017-05-09 06:57:28 PM kathyhughes and instead of telling them the activities, I would teach the staff about our regulations

2017-05-09 06:57:42 PM dominiquesow to call for help and communicate
2017-05-09 06:57:47 PM preinhardt our CNA also put residents difficult to deal with in our activites which i don't mind spending the time with them and making them feel validated but sometimes they do put them at risk
2017-05-09 06:57:51 PM jacquelinememenza dominiquesow yes! I can't stand that
2017-05-09 06:57:52 PM kathyhughes and that the regs state that it is the responsibility of the facility
2017-05-09 06:57:58 PM kbertocci Our careplans are Tues-Wed from 10:05-2:30-3
2017-05-09 06:58:01 PM cindymay Cosmic bingo is blacklights, loud music and glowing daubers
