2013-08-20 06:35:13 PM rvmann We will but we want to get farther along in the remodel first.\

2013-08-20 06:35:24 PM nansullivan I know right, we stress so much about stuff and then it goes off without a hitch.
2013-08-20 06:35:28 PM hughesd16 I can't wait to go smoke free!!!!!!
2013-08-20 06:35:37 PM kpenta We are planning a Wig Fashion Show for active againg week in Sept.
2013-08-20 06:35:44 PM 300494 wow, you are not
2013-08-20 06:35:45 PM suzanneoliver i wish we would go smoke free
2013-08-20 06:35:45 PM lisashockley10 MOVING ANY RESIDENT IS AN EXPERIENCE ON MY UNIT CAUSE ITS USUALLY FROM OUR HIGHER FUNCTIONING UNIT TO OUR END STAGE UNIT AND MOST FAMILYS ARE IN DENILE
2013-08-20 06:35:48 PM kathyhughes and go make a video for them to watch the progression
2013-08-20 06:35:48 PM lwolter265 we are still trying to go smoke free
2013-08-20 06:35:54 PM rvmann the stuff moves first! we plan to leave each with an overnight bag, breakfast at the old facility and lunch at the new.
2013-08-20 06:36:00 PM 300494 I'm in NJ we have been for a few years now
2013-08-20 06:36:09 PM hughesd16 So are we....maybe by the end of the year.
2013-08-20 06:36:10 PM angiemcentire I LIKE THE WIG FASHION SHOW THAT WILL BE TO CUTE
2013-08-20 06:36:15 PM rvmann We go smoke free and tobbacco free at the new campus
2013-08-20 06:36:27 PM 300494 nice
2013-08-20 06:36:32 PM nansullivan We have a smoking area on the patio. But truthfully, I hate it. Smoke drifts.
2013-08-20 06:36:37 PM letroces4 yeah, the wig fashion show is an awesome idea
2013-08-20 06:36:40 PM jcheney i should def. do that. our new building has the slab poured. they would love to see progress
2013-08-20 06:36:40 PM kathyhughes we moved some stuff but spent the rest of the day moving the rest so residents could help unpack
2013-08-20 06:36:47 PM rvmann they can't smoke inside now but we won't have anyone smoking on the property
2013-08-20 06:36:50 PM stevemelton rvmann: and Kathy. makes sense
2013-08-20 06:36:54 PM lisashockley10 OUR CAMPUS WENT SMOKE FREE 2YRS AGO
2013-08-20 06:36:59 PM lwolter265 We are always remodeling our faciility
2013-08-20 06:37:01 PM rvmann Pictures of the progress make all the difference
2013-08-20 06:37:41 PM rvmann we are in a very aged physical plant and need the new building. all the residents know we need it and are happy its gonna happen
2013-08-20 06:37:43 PM nansullivan Smoke free. That sounds amazing. No one can smoke inside, but they sure do it outside. Yuck. I'm a former smoker, 27 years ago I quit and I'm a cigarette nutcase.
2013-08-20 06:37:44 PM kathyhughes Pictures and progress make the alert residents be part of the project
2013-08-20 06:37:44 PM hughesd16 Well if the smoking staff was in charge of smoking it would not be so bad. It's an activity and the non-smoking staff usuaully gets stuck with it!
2013-08-20 06:37:44 PM jcheney man our residents will go on strike if we dont allow them their designated smoke areas
2013-08-20 06:38:03 PM lwolter265 just recently we got new wood floors and new carpet is still being placed in the facility. Also we just got new wood railing and a new dining room se up with new chairs and new paint
2013-08-20 06:38:11 PM kathyhughes we had ladies hanging out out windows watching the construction workers
2013-08-20 06:38:13 PM angiemcentire YES OURS WOULD TO THEY LOOKED FORWARD TO GOING OUT AND SMOKING
2013-08-20 06:38:26 PM 300494 that must be so annoying Hughesd16
2013-08-20 06:38:30 PM angiemcentire OMG KATHY THAT IS TO FUNNY
2013-08-20 06:38:33 PM hughesd16 VERY
2013-08-20 06:38:43 PM jcheney haha kathy that would sooo be ours if they were closer
2013-08-20 06:38:50 PM letroces4 haha...have the construction workers wave at the ladies at least! heheh
2013-08-20 06:38:52 PM lisashockley10 I M PLANNING AN ART GALLERY FOR ALZ AWARENESS MONTH WHICH WILL SHOWCASE RESIDENTS PROJECTS FRO THE PAST YEAR
2013-08-20 06:38:53 PM gleblanc I would agree with the wig fashion show, im sure residents will love it.
2013-08-20 06:39:01 PM rvmann We are giving our residents over 90 days notice. they are already down to 5 cigarette breaks or less a day.
2013-08-20 06:39:05 PM 300494 im sure
2013-08-20 06:39:12 PM angiemcentire WE HAVE ONE LADY THAT WATCHES EVERY MAN THAT COMES IN AND OUT OR AROUND AND HAS SOME KIND OF COMMENT TO MAKE
2013-08-20 06:39:18 PM cmzeitler Kathy that is funny! I have a couple who joke about pulling the fire alarm so the "cute fireman comes"
2013-08-20 06:39:26 PM kathyhughes meanwhile they set up a lemonade stand and had a fall chilli party for them
2013-08-20 06:39:33 PM lwolter265 we have a designated smoking section where we have a fire blanket and ash trays
2013-08-20 06:40:00 PM rperlson fire blanket? Really?
2013-08-20 06:40:00 PM cindynick I like the chili party. They really were involved.
2013-08-20 06:40:13 PM hughesd16 I think management is afraid of loosing residents. Oh, well we are health care aren't we?
2013-08-20 06:40:15 PM rvmann Even our staff will have to park off campus and smoke in their cars if they want to smoke
2013-08-20 06:40:20 PM kathyhughes we tried to get as many residents involved as possible
2013-08-20 06:40:20 PM angiemcentire CHILI PARTY IS A GOOD IDEA
2013-08-20 06:40:26 PM lwolter265 yeah its in a red circluar thing on the wall outside
2013-08-20 06:40:50 PM hughesd16 We have fire blankets for some.
2013-08-20 06:41:03 PM 300494 my admin is afraid of my patient running or falling they only go out maybe twice a day for 10 min.
2013-08-20 06:41:08 PM rvmann we have fireproof aprons for our smokers
2013-08-20 06:41:11 PM kathyhughes Each Sept we would have a facility chilli cookoff and the first prize was a $100 certificate to the local mall
2013-08-20 06:41:24 PM 300494 AWESOME
2013-08-20 06:41:26 PM kalamclemore we use fire aprons
2013-08-20 06:41:27 PM rperlson we need some
2013-08-20 06:41:30 PM letroces4 wow..thats awesome... we did a barbecue but only for staff
2013-08-20 06:41:31 PM nansullivan It just seems such a HUGE drain on staff to have a smoker go out and you sit with them while they smoke. Really.
2013-08-20 06:41:31 PM kpenta Yum! that's fantastic!
2013-08-20 06:41:36 PM 091190 left the chat room
2013-08-20 06:42:02 PM lwolter265 we just have one for the resident who has a wobbly hand and could be at risk of dropping his cigarette and you never know what could happen
2013-08-20 06:42:03 PM nansullivan We also use fire aprons. Only for those that are not safe.
2013-08-20 06:42:04 PM cryshd that's an awesome prize! did it come out of the activity budget?
2013-08-20 06:42:06 PM kathyhughes Nan I would come and volunteer to smoke with them
2013-08-20 06:42:09 PM cindynick Wow. We had local restaurants come in with thier chowder recipes and we all voted for the best. That was well received.
2013-08-20 06:42:12 PM rvmann our smokers have designated break times to smoke and a staff member goes with them. the three smokers go out together
2013-08-20 06:42:18 PM kathyhughes No it came out of marketing
2013-08-20 06:42:22 PM angiemcentire I AM GOING TO TAKE MY PIT AND LET THE RESIDENTS ROAST WEINEYS AND MARSHMELLOWS
2013-08-20 06:42:38 PM letroces4 thank you all for the awesome ideas.. im going to work..have a good night everyone!!!
2013-08-20 06:42:42 PM letroces4 left the chat room
2013-08-20 06:42:49 PM cmzeitler oHH Chowder cookoff sounds good
2013-08-20 06:42:53 PM rperlson marketing?
2013-08-20 06:42:56 PM 300494 for me it's so annoying because when patients could smoke they went out about 6-8 times and now without they only go out 2-3
2013-08-20 06:42:58 PM angiemcentire YOU TOO DO NOT WORK TO HARD
2013-08-20 06:42:59 PM kathyhughes and we had other prizes that included gift certificates to local restaurants and stores
2013-08-20 06:43:05 PM hughesd16 My office faces the smoking area and residents are always sneaking cigs when they are not suppose to be out there. Inforcment is a problem. we lock up cigs and then someone from the outside will give them more.
2013-08-20 06:43:08 PM kathyhughes Marketing had a budget
2013-08-20 06:43:14 PM nansullivan That sounds better all of the smokers go out at once.
2013-08-20 06:43:36 PM gleblanc wow that was awesome... a $100 gift certificate, i bet everybody wants to win
2013-08-20 06:43:40 PM lwolter265 our smoking area is near our activity room so we open the blinds and can watch the patient
2013-08-20 06:43:43 PM kalamclemore we have scheduled times. it seems to work well
2013-08-20 06:43:45 PM lisashockley10 WHEN I WORKED ON AN HUNTINGTONS UNIT I HAD TO REACH DOWN A RESIDENTS THROUT TO RETREIVE A CIG HE HAD SWALLKOWED. NOT FUN!
2013-08-20 06:43:46 PM juniorbull what sounds even better is that smoking should altogether be abolished
2013-08-20 06:43:52 PM stevemelton Can I ask a related, but personal, question?
2013-08-20 06:43:53 PM angiemcentire THATS WHAT WE DO WE HAVE CERTAIN TIMES THEY SMOKE AND TRUST ME THEY ARE ALL WAITING AT THE DOOR
2013-08-20 06:43:58 PM kpenta Wow, I feel very lucky to be working in a smoke free facility
2013-08-20 06:43:59 PM kathyhughes motivates the families to be involve
2013-08-20 06:44:00 PM 300494 OMG Lisa
2013-08-20 06:44:03 PM rvmann yup and since no one is allowed cigarettes or lighters in their room they go out with the one they are allowed or skip the break
2013-08-20 06:44:04 PM kathyhughes sure Steve
2013-08-20 06:44:41 PM juniorbull well kathy and all see u next time and thanx.
2013-08-20 06:44:55 PM rperlson ......
2013-08-20 06:45:01 PM stevemelton My son’s mom,(my ex-wife) died recenlty and left a disabled husband, only 60. He had a couple of strokes. My son just picked out a nursing home. He had been at home and my ex-wife took care of him. My son is trying to do what is right. Course, won’t have the time his mom did. Any advice?
