2019-03-05 07:21:24 PM kathyhughes I always used Homeschoolers as they were all looking for something to do
2019-03-05 07:21:25 PM khostetler we get voluntters from local schools...we have them in the activity room and kind of behind the scenes and they help cut things for us
2019-03-05 07:21:32 PM amyc84 i have one resident who loves to cut and asks me each morning what she can cut for the day
2019-03-05 07:21:33 PM sherryc I am so glad to be able to come here for inspiration!
2019-03-05 07:21:44 PM brydentammyyahoocom me too
2019-03-05 07:21:47 PM almak We are short too and it is very hard to do floor activitiies and paper computer stuff
2019-03-05 07:21:48 PM kathyhughes also I had teen volunteers make craft kits for me
2019-03-05 07:22:01 PM kathyhughes They would come in and spend 10 hours cutting things out
2019-03-05 07:22:04 PM wanzaella craft kits
2019-03-05 07:22:06 PM johannamccargish Thats a good idea
2019-03-05 07:22:10 PM clcroom We're not allowed volunteers under 18
2019-03-05 07:22:22 PM kaylenbaringer that is a great idea... but we also are not allowed anyone under 18
2019-03-05 07:22:24 PM tyshuna86 volunteers are a big help
2019-03-05 07:22:25 PM arthurashley volunteers are amazing! April is all about them :)

2019-03-05 07:22:52 PM chesmcleggan whats the age group the school kids
2019-03-05 07:22:55 PM vgrenier2019 try local colleges they are always looking for community service opportunities
2019-03-05 07:22:57 PM carollucksinger AVID and other organizations need volunteer hours
2019-03-05 07:23:05 PM kathyhughes They were supervised and only had 10 hours each...High school seniors
2019-03-05 07:23:08 PM kaylenbaringer hmm i will have to try that
2019-03-05 07:23:09 PM amyc84 finding a quiet place in my house does not happen lol. i have tried headphones
2019-03-05 07:23:13 PM clcroom Ours does too, but we're not allowed to have them vollunteer. Makes no sense. We need the help.
2019-03-05 07:23:14 PM sherryc I know several community schools I could ask for help. The next hurdle will be planning far enough ahead so the cuttings will be ready in time for the holiday craft
2019-03-05 07:23:31 PM wanzaella thats what i get college students
2019-03-05 07:23:36 PM sherryc maybe Eagle Scouts or Girl Scouts?
2019-03-05 07:23:39 PM tyshuna86 wow
2019-03-05 07:23:44 PM kathyhughes Under 18 would be a facility policy so I would try to change it
2019-03-05 07:23:53 PM rrobinson if you set aside 10 min daily, or schedule it into your days ahead of time, you'll get the cuttings done in time!
2019-03-05 07:23:56 PM kaylenbaringer how would we go about changing that?
2019-03-05 07:23:59 PM kathyhughes especially if they are supervised
2019-03-05 07:24:11 PM fmonsivais enter the chat room

2019-03-05 07:24:45 PM clcroom Been trying. This is my third admin in the last year. The minor volunteers were always supervised.
2019-03-05 07:24:49 PM arthurashley I prefer 18 and older is that bad?
2019-03-05 07:24:51 PM shirleyminton if their are universities in your area with recreation therapy degrees, reach out to them for volunteers/praticum students/interns
2019-03-05 07:24:56 PM biancosherri We have alot of older volunteers and I love it.
2019-03-05 07:24:56 PM kathyhughes Up to you
2019-03-05 07:24:57 PM shirleyminton there are
2019-03-05 07:24:57 PM khostetler one of our resident's favorite activities is when the locl atholic school sends volunteers for a day of service. They spend half of their day helping in the activities room and the othre half doing 1:1 room visits and reading to th residents
2019-03-05 07:24:59 PM rrobinson kaylen i'd start with the administrator. i know in my last facility my activity director spoke with our administrator about changes, and he had to bring proposed changes to corporate
2019-03-05 07:25:04 PM wanzaella true
2019-03-05 07:25:07 PM amyc84 when i am at home i always put my children to work to help me prep something for the next day too, lol and they love to help

2019-03-05 07:25:25 PM tyshuna86 very true
2019-03-05 07:25:35 PM kaylenbaringer i have my husband come in on weekends and help with calling bingo so i can get my 1-1's done hahhaa
2019-03-05 07:25:39 PM sherryc It would make sense that those residents that are more capable do things to help those that aren't.
2019-03-05 07:25:44 PM wanzaella i perfer younger
2019-03-05 07:25:48 PM biancosherri They are dependable and have more patience with the residents

2019-03-05 07:26:11 PM kathyhughes We also would ask the receptionist and other staff to for help as well
2019-03-05 07:26:14 PM sherryc Last month one of the holidays was "Random Act of Kindness Day" and we had residents make out thinking-of-you cards for the memory-care residents that don't get much mail.
2019-03-05 07:26:15 PM rrobinson residents like children but they also like someone their own age that they can form a recfiprocal friendship with
2019-03-05 07:26:15 PM johannamccargish Not sure about volunteer week
2019-03-05 07:26:17 PM patriciaramella we have no volunteers at the moment. we have an intern from a local college and she doesnt really like the field.
2019-03-05 07:26:18 PM amyc84 i dont have a lot of volunteers, working on changing that
2019-03-05 07:26:21 PM faithburns89 vgrenier2019 im familiar with the facility and the residents plus their likes and interest with most but the activites deparment is all new to me im still a new hire

2019-03-05 07:26:36 PM fmonsivais in a college town we have tons. but they all want to come on weekends
2019-03-05 07:26:53 PM patriciab We actually have people call us to volunteer. It starts with families and residents. Schools are also a great source for volunteers. However, due to an incident, the policy does not allow kids to volunteer with the residents.
2019-03-05 07:26:53 PM johannamccargish As the receptionist for now, i help a lot.
2019-03-05 07:26:58 PM carollucksinger Our facility does a banquet for the volunteers and that lets them know we appreciate them
2019-03-05 07:27:04 PM arthurashley I have a couple residents that will wheel themselves into my office and sit at my other desk and ask/demand they help!
2019-03-05 07:27:12 PM shirleyminton you coud do a desset buffet and call the event "Sweets for Our Sweethearts" then recoginize the one's with the most hours or whom have contributed the most effort to be involved in various programs.
2019-03-05 07:27:14 PM sherryc Our unit just has one volunteer at present

2019-03-05 07:27:34 PM babsd Yes I like using the residents to call Bingo or help in various ways . We have a good group that helps clean.
2019-03-05 07:27:37 PM khostetler We have had younger groups come and it has been a disaster...the kid's Parents came but weren't exactly supervising their kids and without parent prompting the kids didn't interact well...it was 4th graders
2019-03-05 07:27:41 PM kaylenbaringer my directors sister comes in for all the parties and outings that we do as a volunteer
