2013-04-10 06:33:17 PM hhammondg I like the idea of each department being the focus of one day for nursing home week...What kind of things do the departments do?
2013-04-10 06:33:19 PM richardsonl what if you didn't keep a list of all your chats but you know for sure you've been on at least one extra credit chat, not inlcuding this oe and at least five chats.

2013-04-10 06:33:36 PM horton ok this is my third chat and I have never received a confirmation...this is scary

2013-04-10 06:33:57 PM brycegray We have a "DISCOVER A DEPARTMENT" each day. We take reisdents on a tour of a part of the building and do a meet and greet with a different department. EXAMPLE: Laundry - we are going to get a tour of the laundry department and that have coffee/cookies while they introduce themselves to the residents
2013-04-10 06:34:19 PM lynnet our community would never go for that
2013-04-10 06:34:25 PM jennifer0876 nursing did a carnival last year.they all dressed in overalls, set up games, face painting, dunk tank, we had a petting zoo, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones etc
2013-04-10 06:34:29 PM motterjx ohh i like that idea! it also helps residents get to know the staff
2013-04-10 06:34:32 PM richardsonl Bryce that is a wonderful idea
2013-04-10 06:34:34 PM angi55 i like that idea. your facility must not have a big turnover.
2013-04-10 06:34:52 PM motterjx we are doing a field day/ tailgate day as one event for nursing home weekend
2013-04-10 06:35:02 PM kjosephsen aww that is a really great idea, at resident council I hate trying to explain who is who and what department, that would clarify for them
2013-04-10 06:35:03 PM hhammondg I like the tour idea!
2013-04-10 06:35:23 PM jennifer0876 nice idea.

2013-04-10 06:35:31 PM sebruton The tour idea is great
2013-04-10 06:35:39 PM richardsonl we are gong to have monte carol. Nusing wants me to feed the staff and residents. I told them they have to hep out. We tend to get stuck doing everything including entertaining other departments
2013-04-10 06:35:42 PM mdatlenko I like care giver of the month idea
2013-04-10 06:35:44 PM babieofseven I like to tour idea too see if I can get my place to do it
2013-04-10 06:35:55 PM brycegray For national nursing home week: http://www.ahcancal.org/events/national_nursing_home_week/Pages/default.aspx

2013-04-10 06:36:53 PM lynnet oh!
2013-04-10 06:36:55 PM hhammondg Maybe we could have a special resident council meeting with different departments coming in to dointroductions during the meeting.
2013-04-10 06:37:01 PM richardsonl Have a good night
2013-04-10 06:37:12 PM lynnet now that's a good idea too hhamon
2013-04-10 06:37:17 PM brycegray My facility has a very low turnover - I just celebrated with 30 people who have been working here for 10 years or more
2013-04-10 06:37:22 PM lynnet wow
2013-04-10 06:37:25 PM jennifer0876 we have different departments go to resident council, had our Ombudsman come in etc

2013-04-10 06:38:01 PM gstenic we have a high turnover of STNA's
2013-04-10 06:38:14 PM thively hey, is this a specialty chat?
2013-04-10 06:38:19 PM lynnet Bryce - do you find that the big communities (i.e Atria and the like) have a bigger or smaller turnover in staff if at all?
2013-04-10 06:38:21 PM motterjx we've had the social worker come talk becasue i feel like during resident council the questions are around social work
2013-04-10 06:38:24 PM jennifer0876 our facility as well, we have folks who have been here for many years..Most of us joke that we are "lifers"
2013-04-10 06:38:26 PM mdatlenko enter the chat room
2013-04-10 06:38:33 PM angi55 i feel bad for the residents when there is high turnover. they complain about it at resident council
2013-04-10 06:38:34 PM gstenic work in a newer facility where departments do not work together more like against each other-HATE IT
2013-04-10 06:38:35 PM brycegray Yes! This is the specialty chat. Welcome!
2013-04-10 06:38:39 PM mdatlenko sorry just got kicked out
2013-04-10 06:38:40 PM jennifer0876 Our social worker actually runs those meetings
2013-04-10 06:38:53 PM thively Ok great. which specialty?
2013-04-10 06:39:16 PM brycegray I work for a large CCRC with over 300+ employees and have a very small turnover. However, I know that this is not typial
2013-04-10 06:39:21 PM thively Sorry I am late. Had to work late tonight to call our weekly evening BINGO and i just got home.
2013-04-10 06:39:22 PM jennifer0876 that's terrible gstenic it makes it hard for everyone especially the residents
2013-04-10 06:39:33 PM trinidish We have made lot cutouts of baseballs, a ball and bath and it’s for sale. Anyone who purchase them can write anything they wish on them and we post them in the main lobby all proceeds benefit the activity department
2013-04-10 06:39:34 PM brycegray Free resources and the ADN website
2013-04-10 06:39:58 PM hhammondg I like the caregiver of the month idea voted on by residents...I think one of our residents brought that up to the social worker at the last residents' council...If there was a nice cash bonus, it would be really good for everyone!
2013-04-10 06:40:02 PM lynnet Bryce - were you able to see my question about big community staff turnover in relation to the smaller privately owned communites?
2013-04-10 06:40:09 PM angi55 so what do yall think of theactivitydirectorsoffice.com
2013-04-10 06:40:26 PM lynnet what is it?
2013-04-10 06:40:27 PM anniei2552 I use it a lot
2013-04-10 06:40:44 PM angi55 it appears to have a lot of great ideas
2013-04-10 06:40:45 PM brycegray Serve food and always invite the staff to join in and have fun. It took me a YEAR of just showing staff how much fun they could have (without expecting any help/assistance) that I now have lots of staff helping and attending activities with residents.
2013-04-10 06:41:17 PM richardsonl left the chat room
2013-04-10 06:41:34 PM lynnet i'll have to check it out
2013-04-10 06:41:48 PM angi55 notjustbingo.com is another good one
2013-04-10 06:41:50 PM brycegray LYNNET - I believe that it is smaller, privately owned communities with lower turnover. However, I work for a nonprofit CCRC with 300+ employees with VERY LOW turnover.
2013-04-10 06:42:09 PM kjosephsen Residents love to see staff enjoying themselves to, the events that had a lot of staff involvemnet seem to be the most remembered
2013-04-10 06:42:10 PM anniei2552 yes that on I use also
2013-04-10 06:42:10 PM brycegray I prefer notjustbingo.com
2013-04-10 06:42:16 PM jennifer0876 I always purchase enough food for staff too:)

2013-04-10 06:42:55 PM jennifer0876 I have encountered some problems in the afternoon hours as so many folks are in bed. any ideas there?
2013-04-10 06:43:18 PM thively this is awesome! we only use google and activityconnection right now. Glad to hear about all these resources!
2013-04-10 06:43:20 PM angi55 i would like to see some good one on one ideas. i will check the site out
2013-04-10 06:43:22 PM richardsonl Sorry, for some reason yesterday and today, I keep freezin gup then get kicked off
2013-04-10 06:43:40 PM hhammondg I find that sending afternoon party leftovers to the break room for night shift staff is a great way to make friends with the real people! I see the looks that admins get when they come take the last of the cupcakes from a party and go into a "meeting."
2013-04-10 06:43:42 PM brycegray You can access all this information when you click on the wrench in the top righthand corner. Click on OPEN CHAT HISTORY everything will be there
2013-04-10 06:43:48 PM mdatlenko just happened to me a few min.ago
2013-04-10 06:43:50 PM thively the chat room has a glitch... keeps booting people
2013-04-10 06:44:09 PM brycegray That way you don't keep getting kicked out of the chatroom over and over!
2013-04-10 06:44:09 PM trinidish For our men’s luncheon the them is “take me out to the ball park” and were trying to get someone from the community to come and be our speaker and I am in the process of putting together a slide show
2013-04-10 06:44:11 PM anniei2552 I was able to open and save it
2013-04-10 06:44:44 PM jennifer0876 I can't get these chats to load on my phone. They are at 5my time & I'm usually at soccer practice etc..
2013-04-10 06:44:47 PM brycegray No problem aobut getting kicked out and returning - it won't effect your points!
2013-04-10 06:44:48 PM angi55 i bet residents like to see slideshows of their events
2013-04-10 06:45:07 PM angi55 that could be an activity in itself complete with refreshments
2013-04-10 06:45:16 PM mdatlenko I want to do that--show slides of the resident act
2013-04-10 06:45:26 PM brycegray I typically can't get chats to load on my phone either... Sorry! It would be very convinent!
2013-04-10 06:45:42 PM lynnet how neat - it's like reading what a court reporter wrote!
2013-04-10 06:45:45 PM angi55 how could i get the slideshows projected big enough for all to see?
2013-04-10 06:46:01 PM jennifer0876 Yes, it would..That's why I've missed the initial ones
2013-04-10 06:46:14 PM thively yeah, most phones wont do flash.. I have tried too
2013-04-10 06:46:28 PM brycegray ANGI55 - Do you have a projector?
2013-04-10 06:46:36 PM richardsonl Could a text thing work
2013-04-10 06:46:37 PM hhammondg I take digital photos of events and post them on a bulleting board the next day...Residents love looking at them...They often "steal" pictures off the board, which is okay, since that way I know they are paying attention!
2013-04-10 06:46:39 PM angi55 no
2013-04-10 06:46:41 PM jennifer0876 so much for "smart phones" huh..
2013-04-10 06:47:02 PM brycegray Hmm... I would print colored pictures on 11x17 paper and post them around the walls during a program/event
2013-04-10 06:47:05 PM richardsonl Sometimes I put the photos on a CD-r and play them through the DVD player
2013-04-10 06:47:23 PM jennifer0876 hhammondg- our Residents love that too..They'll bring their family memebers over to see what they've done too
2013-04-10 06:47:24 PM brycegray If your facility has a laptop you can also hook that up to your tv
2013-04-10 06:47:26 PM hhammondg Isn't there a way to hook up a big, flat-screened TV to a laptop?
2013-04-10 06:47:36 PM lynnet we have a power point presentation at the main desk in the lobby that shows a slideshow of pictures
2013-04-10 06:47:36 PM richardsonl We are going to study Appalacia and take photos and put them onto a CD-R
2013-04-10 06:47:42 PM hhammondg Or even hook a digital camera up to the TV?
2013-04-10 06:47:48 PM anniei2552 In my center some family members dont want pictures taken does anybody have that problem?
2013-04-10 06:47:49 PM motterjx probally using a usb chord or something along that
2013-04-10 06:47:58 PM angi55 oh okay i didnt think of that . they could see it if I did it through the dvd player. i love making slideshows with music
2013-04-10 06:48:04 PM brycegray Connecting laptop to TV directions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GzaKfCtzb0
2013-04-10 06:48:12 PM sebruton after a big event I put the pictures is electronic picture frames and set it on table, the residents love that
2013-04-10 06:48:14 PM jennifer0876 I haven't so far annie..
2013-04-10 06:48:17 PM trinidish if the TV is a smart tv a flish drive also works
2013-04-10 06:48:42 PM brycegray Almost forgot... found this website and wanted to pass this on.
2013-04-10 06:48:45 PM hhammondg An electronic picture frame would disappear in a heartbeat...
2013-04-10 06:48:45 PM richardsonl My next challenge is to download youtube videos to DVD for a horse race night
2013-04-10 06:48:46 PM brycegray Famous faces of the 1950’s. Set these out for independent leisure, handout during 1:1s, or use for an activity! Just click and print! http://famousnetwork.blogspot.com/2011/01/history-of-famous-people-of-1950s.html
