2016-01-26 07:07:18 PM vincentk I have a question for you all regarding, resident council. Do you allow family members to sit in? They don't purposefully attend, but sometimes, (like today) they are visiting with their mom/dad and they ended up staying. I'm not sure if there is a certain policy to follow overall, or if it's just personal preference for each facility. I would prefer them NOT to attend...especially this specific family.. 8-|
2016-01-26 07:07:26 PM lisas One of our activity staff was born and raised in China...she's planning a neat little Chinese feast!
2016-01-26 07:07:26 PM amber88 yes they do! and their egg drop soup

2016-01-26 07:07:42 PM julies I have a question about individuals, when do you consider it an individual if family or other staff are with residents?
2016-01-26 07:07:45 PM belindaf we allow, they cant vote on anything
2016-01-26 07:07:49 PM michellep007 I volunteer at a very small day center where a dozen or so people are bussed in to play cards, do some exercise, and have lunch. Very little money in the area.
2016-01-26 07:07:50 PM amber88 my director told me it is up to resident council
2016-01-26 07:07:59 PM 12789 :)

2016-01-26 07:08:23 PM ncooper6872 We allow family members to sit in and vote. I dont think they should be allowed to vote

2016-01-26 07:09:09 PM kathyhughes I asked them to vote on that as well as vote on whether the state could sit in on their meeting
2016-01-26 07:09:11 PM vstephens unfortunately we don't have too family involment to often
2016-01-26 07:09:13 PM jaiken I do not "invite" families and / or friends to Council meetings, but if present, we do allow them to stay. Sometimes that is how a residents' voice is heard.
2016-01-26 07:09:32 PM vincentk Awesome feedback. Thanks everyone
2016-01-26 07:09:34 PM sheilabryce It seems like it's the time of year for everyone to be grumpy... us , the residents. It's been bad lately... Nobody is happy

2016-01-26 07:09:58 PM vincentk I feel ya, sheilabryce! The vibe has been so negative lately, but I am smiling and not feeding into it!
2016-01-26 07:09:58 PM jaiken No staff at all to council meetings, unless invited by the residents. i.e., kitchen manager

2016-01-26 07:10:31 PM patty4 google the happy light - you sit in front of it for about 10 - 15 minutes each day and it helps build seratonin

2016-01-26 07:10:58 PM vincentk My boyfriend has a happy light, and it's great!
2016-01-26 07:11:00 PM wrendillon People don't get enough full spectrum light in the winter and it can lead to depression, fatigue, and a general need to hibernate.
2016-01-26 07:11:01 PM maryc2 we aloud all the department heads but not families
2016-01-26 07:11:03 PM vstephens we do resident council concerns where they are written down given to that department then back to us so we can report on the result of the concern

2016-01-26 07:16:42 PM kmdemers hello everyone
2016-01-26 07:16:45 PM lolita47 I am in a new community only 6 months old and I have monthly resident council meetings
2016-01-26 07:16:51 PM patty4 what is it with theft in these communities!
2016-01-26 07:16:52 PM kmykalw I think that because its a skilled unit, admins don't find it very important.
2016-01-26 07:16:57 PM vincentk They'll be in our building next week, and will also hold a res council
2016-01-26 07:17:03 PM jaiken andreafisher- always an issue, ongoing in every buiding I've worked in
2016-01-26 07:17:04 PM skershaw so far good,, been only today so far.. i was gone getting my crp traingin this moring.... so i missed some of it..lol

2016-01-26 07:17:39 PM lolita47 I find it gives my higher functioning residents the feeling that they have a real voice and they bring some good ideas to the table
2016-01-26 07:17:51 PM patty4 Absolutely
2016-01-26 07:17:56 PM vstephens very true

2016-01-26 07:18:13 PM jackie26 it is better to have the state early in the year than later

2016-01-26 07:18:23 PM jaiken What if you have a new facility, only 1/2 full and no one wants to be on the council. What to do?
2016-01-26 07:18:26 PM sheilabryce I think our RC president is going to blow up and go off on someone!!!
2016-01-26 07:18:28 PM sgreathouse Its a questionaire you can find on the internet
2016-01-26 07:18:35 PM amandaw I say just get it over with. Better than waiting

2016-01-26 07:18:55 PM jaiken Thanks sgreathouse!
2016-01-26 07:18:58 PM lolita47 it also gives me the chance to introduce new ideas that I have to see if they would like to try in our community
2016-01-26 07:18:59 PM vincentk Anyone is invited to res council
2016-01-26 07:19:03 PM amber88 the last week they could come for us was the last week of december but they didnt because of the holidays

2016-01-26 07:19:05 PM kathyhughes Any resident can attend
2016-01-26 07:19:07 PM patty4 If you ask someone personally they are more apt to say yes..
2016-01-26 07:19:08 PM jaiken I agree amandaw. And it's never as bad as we anticipate
2016-01-26 07:19:12 PM maribel we are in open survey window. When they come they like to sit down and have a mini resident council where they ask the resident questions about activities, care, abuse, meals, etc.
2016-01-26 07:19:13 PM wrendillon do you have the website, SGreathouse?
