2016-08-23 06:38:28 PM arepic We do multiple food activities in our facility. On my unit we have at least 3 food activities a week and the residents help make the goods and then we all get to pig out when it's done. Tasty Tuesdays, Munchie Mondays and Happy Hour Thursdays are a blast.

Residents helped of course but the kitchen could have made them for us. I knew they would say that they do not have time...

A lot of time we just need sugar, flour, etc. We try to make some things that we can use for special occasions so the kitchen doen't have to worry about it

But when caregivers feel that they have too much to do(even when that is not the reality and the ED has pretty much said it is okay for you to sit on the clock and do nothing)by not addressing certain actions. The success of the Activity Program is in jeopardy. One person can't do it all.

2016-08-23 06:52:27 PM mwalker Appreciation is key; if the staff feels appreciated they will be that much more willing to help you. When i have free time in between my schedule during lunch, i will help the CNA's take lunch orders and pass drinks to the residents. I also have helped with the feedings when they are short handed and use this time for 1:1 as well. Feeding a resident and then going right into an activity is a smooth transaction and allows you to bond with resident.
