2017-04-05 06:31:02 PM cchase take the cup from the shelf in the cabinet
2017-04-05 06:31:13 PM marciatrimiew Maybe I will get a few chia pets and have members watch it grow.

2017-04-05 06:32:00 PM cchase remember patience
2017-04-05 06:32:07 PM wandapoulson ok I'll try it
2017-04-05 06:32:08 PM asjodin so true
2017-04-05 06:32:25 PM catiah hummm.. sounds interesting...
2017-04-05 06:32:39 PM bcramer I had never heard the step by step process called chucking thanks for the new word
2017-04-05 06:32:51 PM erikalmascia me either.
2017-04-05 06:32:54 PM kbertocci I am planning to implement a gardening system for when the weather gets nice to where residents can choose to plant and water their own plot of flowers in the patio gardens on a regular basis. Several stated they enjoyed gardening on their entry assessments.
2017-04-05 06:32:58 PM aleda I cant wait to use it tomorrow lol
2017-04-05 06:33:07 PM marciatrimiew new term..chucking method

2017-04-05 06:33:27 PM aleda I have found music is the best
2017-04-05 06:33:34 PM wandapoulson chucking usually means to throw out
2017-04-05 06:33:42 PM cchase use it appropriately as you may insult if you do it with someone they can still do for himself
2017-04-05 06:33:56 PM aleda ok
2017-04-05 06:33:57 PM bcramer Our residents planted herbs in a raised garden and helped me water it weekly. Dietary actually used some of the sage and other herbs to season the food
2017-04-05 06:34:01 PM cchase "chuncking"
2017-04-05 06:34:07 PM erikalmascia agreed. Music and conversation. We started to shpw pictures to the residents about 2 years ago, they really enjoy that as well.

2017-04-05 06:34:54 PM cchase okay so let's talk about behaviors
2017-04-05 06:35:05 PM erikalmascia The might not be able to tell what is going on in the pictures but the old time pictures bring back memories for them. It is nice to see the residents smile an laugh when they remember something.
2017-04-05 06:35:08 PM wandapoulson mine?
2017-04-05 06:35:12 PM erikalmascia *They

2017-04-05 06:35:15 PM aleda I had one res never did anything then started givingher stuff to sort and shes doing all activities now its like working her brain everyday woke her up
2017-04-05 06:35:21 PM cchase no not yours wanda
2017-04-05 06:35:26 PM asjodin lol
2017-04-05 06:35:33 PM wandapoulson I know
2017-04-05 06:35:43 PM cchase he - he
2017-04-05 06:35:45 PM aleda beach sensory or nature
2017-04-05 06:35:45 PM schmiess1 when trying to engage them in something i usually start out with I really need help, would you please help me...
2017-04-05 06:35:54 PM cchase okay so how do you deal with behaviors
2017-04-05 06:36:01 PM erikalmascia We have a sensory cart. It has worked out well and if you find that something isn't working you can easily move on to the next items
2017-04-05 06:36:05 PM asjodin We have a behavior management team that discusses residents weekly to see trends or techniques that work
2017-04-05 06:36:09 PM aleda yep i need so much help that is what a res said she said you always need help lol
2017-04-05 06:36:13 PM marilumolina 1:1
2017-04-05 06:36:21 PM bcramer today we had coffee with friends and residents brought out pics of things that were important to them and shared the story with the others.
2017-04-05 06:36:25 PM cchase do you use a behavior log?? asjodin
2017-04-05 06:36:30 PM asjodin yes
2017-04-05 06:36:35 PM wandapoulson distract
2017-04-05 06:36:37 PM catiah I would say individualy manager

2017-04-05 06:36:45 PM erikalmascia Our resident have activity boxes or we set them up to fold towels and things like that.
2017-04-05 06:36:48 PM cchase how do you distract??
2017-04-05 06:37:01 PM erikalmascia I don't know why folding calms people down, but it does.
2017-04-05 06:37:02 PM catiah ????
2017-04-05 06:37:12 PM marilumolina 1:1 talks , walks
2017-04-05 06:37:13 PM aleda folding and sorting
2017-04-05 06:37:14 PM catiah I agree erika
2017-04-05 06:37:14 PM wandapoulson change conversation ask questions
2017-04-05 06:37:15 PM marciatrimiew I like the idea of asking for help..I am working on asking for help..have a tendency to want to do things for the residents...
2017-04-05 06:37:17 PM kbertocci It's important to have more than one activity available in sensory and 1:1 visits. If they get bored and start acting out with behaviors, it is easy to have them choose another activity than to try to force the previous, undesirable one
2017-04-05 06:37:34 PM asjodin I have found that in a situation it is best to remove the resident from the situation and find another enviorment that is less stressful
2017-04-05 06:37:35 PM aleda yes so true
2017-04-05 06:37:38 PM cchase we call that "redirection"
2017-04-05 06:37:46 PM catiah If I can't manager the behavior I ask for help
2017-04-05 06:37:51 PM cchase you want to redirect the action or thought
2017-04-05 06:37:56 PM marilumolina redirected -resident
2017-04-05 06:38:12 PM aleda we have a tag your out approach also
2017-04-05 06:38:13 PM cchase yes..... so give ways to redirect
2017-04-05 06:38:15 PM bcramer I built a beach on our patio two years ago with sand, water, sound and smells. The residents really enjoyed all the sensory stimulation. we pretty much hit them all. Hearing, smelling, feeling, taste, etc
2017-04-05 06:38:22 PM valei5 when I have residents with very disruptive brhaviors, I have to document it in the AOD systemwhen I'm doing charting at the end of the day or at the end of a program.
2017-04-05 06:38:24 PM cchase great aleda !!
2017-04-05 06:38:30 PM wandapoulson snacks

2017-04-05 06:38:53 PM aleda I have tagge aa out plenty of times sometimes in the moment it takes a new person
2017-04-05 06:39:00 PM cchase yes - wanda the simple redirect with food is very effective
2017-04-05 06:39:00 PM erikalmascia We have the beach theme box. Somewhere.....
2017-04-05 06:39:06 PM aleda i always am sure that i dont hurt aa feeling
2017-04-05 06:39:08 PM catiah I did that many times asjodin, it worked most of the times
2017-04-05 06:39:14 PM marciatrimiew Some residents can be easily agitated..I can tell by the expression on their face.
2017-04-05 06:39:24 PM aleda yes face shows
2017-04-05 06:39:27 PM wandapoulson music sing to them
2017-04-05 06:39:28 PM catiah right marcia
2017-04-05 06:39:35 PM asjodin yes it does depend on the person and situation and also the enviorment in general
2017-04-05 06:39:39 PM cchase yes --- when are they getting agitated - what is going on around them
2017-04-05 06:39:44 PM aleda we have one that gets over stmulated by large groups yet nac bring to large group
2017-04-05 06:39:51 PM cchase is it happening at the same time everyday

2017-04-05 06:45:20 PM cchase sundown is a time of day when they are extremely confused... music - dancing sometimes helps

2017-04-05 06:45:51 PM kbertocci I was thinking maybe just start with it outside so the smell won't be overbearing. If they like it, we can move it to a lounge for small group.
2017-04-05 06:45:57 PM cchase I believe that the internal human clock starts to go off balance with the disease progression
2017-04-05 06:46:11 PM erikalmascia I used to work on a floor that we called wild wild west. It was the west wing of the nursing home and they put all the sun down patients there.

2017-04-05 06:46:20 PM aleda so is sundowning mostly for res with dementia
2017-04-05 06:46:21 PM cchase thus, they are up at night.. or sleep too much in the daytime

2017-04-05 06:49:36 PM wandapoulson oh wow
2017-04-05 06:49:37 PM erikalmascia Let her keep the coat
2017-04-05 06:49:48 PM bcramer Although they call it sundowning, it really honestly can happen any part of the day. It is the behaviours not the time of day that makes it sundowning. I believe it used to happen around the evening most of the time when people were coming home from work, so some of the residents are "coming home from work" and wish to start their evening activities. In today's facilities with artificial lighting and such, sundowning often happens any time of day. I am no expert, this is just research I have done
2017-04-05 06:49:58 PM cchase she took her coat off..
2017-04-05 06:50:06 PM cchase what'z next

2017-04-05 06:50:12 PM marciatrimiew put her coat back on in a gentle way not to startle her or to draw attention to what is going on.
