2018-09-26 06:14:31 PM cristinahancock Very true
2018-09-26 06:14:43 PM cchase hey lisa what is your background
2018-09-26 06:14:43 PM cristinahancock So what kind of activities are available to them?
2018-09-26 06:14:52 PM karenfabian Do you have a max number of residents per day?
2018-09-26 06:14:54 PM cchase a whole lot of activities
2018-09-26 06:15:07 PM cchase as we have a wide range of ages to please
2018-09-26 06:15:26 PM cchase average census runs about 35 to 40 per day
2018-09-26 06:15:30 PM cristinahancock I wish Texas had more facilities like this
2018-09-26 06:15:40 PM cchase but we have had some days with less
2018-09-26 06:15:51 PM cristinahancock I am in a rural area though
2018-09-26 06:15:57 PM karenfabian is there activity assistants too?
2018-09-26 06:16:03 PM cchase some are snow birds and go to warm weather in winter
2018-09-26 06:16:12 PM cchase so our census decreases
2018-09-26 06:16:45 PM karenfabian Do they eat 3 meals a day with you?
2018-09-26 06:16:47 PM cchase rural texas... I know good friends in Brunsfels
2018-09-26 06:16:52 PM cchase sp ???
2018-09-26 06:16:55 PM lisabean like to Florida?
2018-09-26 06:17:15 PM cchase yes. we serve breakfast. lunch and pm snack
2018-09-26 06:17:21 PM cristinahancock That is about three hours from me
2018-09-26 06:17:21 PM cchase yes like to Florida lisa
2018-09-26 06:17:48 PM cchase we went to visit them a few years back..loved the area
2018-09-26 06:17:52 PM lisabean nice
2018-09-26 06:18:00 PM cristinahancock That is awesome. How many staff members are there on average and do you have medical staff on hand
2018-09-26 06:18:07 PM cchase lisa what facility are you working in currently
2018-09-26 06:18:18 PM lisabean Rehab
2018-09-26 06:18:29 PM cchase so there are two types of ADH centers
2018-09-26 06:18:41 PM cchase a social model and a medical model
2018-09-26 06:18:51 PM cchase a social model is more like a senior center
2018-09-26 06:18:51 PM cristinahancock Interestinng
2018-09-26 06:18:58 PM cchase ours is a medical model
2018-09-26 06:19:00 PM cristinahancock Makes sense
2018-09-26 06:19:24 PM cchase I have RN's, CNA's and an Activity Director with activity assistants
2018-09-26 06:19:25 PM cristinahancock So you have medical and activities staff than
2018-09-26 06:19:34 PM cchase yes
2018-09-26 06:19:52 PM cchase all are cross trained to do personal care and activities
2018-09-26 06:20:14 PM karenfabian who does the cross training?
2018-09-26 06:20:22 PM cchase also have a PT, hairdresser, social worker
2018-09-26 06:20:23 PM lisabean cross trained?
2018-09-26 06:20:25 PM cristinahancock So what is your position there
2018-09-26 06:20:57 PM cchase Center Program Director
2018-09-26 06:21:35 PM cchase yes.. in adult day CNA and activities are able to help each other
2018-09-26 06:21:40 PM cristinahancock Sounds like fun. I have a bachelors of Science in Public Administration and will eventually get on the admin side of things
2018-09-26 06:22:07 PM cchase that will be a good career direction
2018-09-26 06:22:12 PM cristinahancock I wish our activities staff and CNA's were cross trained
2018-09-26 06:22:29 PM cchase it is required of ADH staff
2018-09-26 06:22:38 PM cristinahancock I think it would be a huge help no matter the type of facility
2018-09-26 06:22:45 PM karenfabian Is activities staff more motivated because there is more to do with personal care etc?
2018-09-26 06:22:47 PM cchase they are referred to as Direct Care Staff
2018-09-26 06:23:34 PM cchase they are more motivated in my opinion because they are not pegged into a specific role or duties
2018-09-26 06:23:44 PM cchase so they are more of a team
2018-09-26 06:23:53 PM karenfabian totally makes sense
2018-09-26 06:23:59 PM cristinahancock I could see that
2018-09-26 06:24:13 PM cchase we also do ALL the same paperwork expected of LTC records
2018-09-26 06:24:18 PM cristinahancock What is the average cost per day
2018-09-26 06:24:30 PM cchase depends on the level of care needed
2018-09-26 06:24:48 PM cristinahancock highest and lowest
2018-09-26 06:24:57 PM cchase someone very independent are charged less than someone requiring nursing expertise
2018-09-26 06:25:02 PM lisabean what is the range of costs then?
2018-09-26 06:25:28 PM cchase runs approx. $ 95 per day to $195 per day
2018-09-26 06:25:38 PM cristinahancock Our rehab and LTC facility cost 103 a day
2018-09-26 06:25:53 PM cristinahancock Wow that is kind of expensive
2018-09-26 06:25:56 PM cchase nursing care is the driving price factor
2018-09-26 06:26:09 PM cristinahancock Makes sense
2018-09-26 06:26:17 PM lisabean how many hours is that?
2018-09-26 06:26:32 PM cchase insulin, oxygen, medication mgmt. etc.
2018-09-26 06:26:41 PM karenfabian Do you still plan field trips?
2018-09-26 06:26:42 PM cchase wound changes...
2018-09-26 06:27:08 PM cchase yes... we do field trips and are open @ 8am tilee 5 pm...
2018-09-26 06:27:15 PM cchase monday through Satu.
2018-09-26 06:27:17 PM cristinahancock So you do everything a LTC facility does except nobody sleeps there
2018-09-26 06:27:30 PM cchase yes... that is correct
2018-09-26 06:27:57 PM karenfabian It must be easier to fill staff positions when you don't need overnights and sundays -
2018-09-26 06:28:00 PM cristinahancock Would you say that the cost is cheaper than your area LTC facilities?
2018-09-26 06:28:11 PM cchase we just have less hours to document because we do not have night staff to take up some of that when it's not so busy at night
2018-09-26 06:28:32 PM cchase yes. absolutely more cost effective than any LTC
2018-09-26 06:29:03 PM lisabean LTC/
2018-09-26 06:29:04 PM cchase average LTC in our area can run $11,000 to $14,000 monthly
2018-09-26 06:29:11 PM lisabean /
2018-09-26 06:29:18 PM karenfabian ADH Centers still have yearly surveys MDS3.0 correct
2018-09-26 06:29:19 PM lisabean ?
2018-09-26 06:29:22 PM cchase lisa what is your question
2018-09-26 06:29:37 PM lisabean LTC?
2018-09-26 06:29:53 PM karenfabian Long Term Care
2018-09-26 06:29:56 PM lisabean what it stands for?
2018-09-26 06:30:04 PM lisabean oh
2018-09-26 06:30:14 PM cchase state dept. of public health has recently devised standardize regs. like LTC
2018-09-26 06:30:25 PM cchase long term care = LTC
2018-09-26 06:30:37 PM cristinahancock That is good
2018-09-26 06:30:50 PM cristinahancock At least in my opinion it is
2018-09-26 06:30:56 PM cchase we use MDS 2.0 HC rather than MDS 3.0
2018-09-26 06:31:43 PM karenfabian Approx. How many Day Centers are in MA these days? More than 400 Nursing Homes?
2018-09-26 06:31:48 PM cchase care plans, family meeting, progress notes, participation records...
2018-09-26 06:32:04 PM lisabean what do your facility spend on activity suplies per month
2018-09-26 06:32:19 PM cchase good question karen.. I do not know the nos. but that would be interesting to check
2018-09-26 06:33:15 PM cchase we have a healthy budget but are very fortunate to have a huge committment from families which helps to take the edge of that spending
2018-09-26 06:33:37 PM cristinahancock That is great.
2018-09-26 06:33:38 PM karenfabian Do you have regular volunteers that come in
2018-09-26 06:33:40 PM cchase we also have a huge nos. of volunteers
2018-09-26 06:34:00 PM cchase seniors from social centers like to come over to our center to help out
2018-09-26 06:34:07 PM cristinahancock That is wonderful I alway struggle getting volunteers
2018-09-26 06:34:17 PM cchase they do ladies clubs and mens clubs
2018-09-26 06:34:32 PM karenfabian That is great to keep residents active
2018-09-26 06:34:47 PM cchase we also give community service credit to seniors & college students who volunteer
2018-09-26 06:35:01 PM cristinahancock thats a great idea
2018-09-26 06:35:08 PM karenfabian Do they need cory forms?
2018-09-26 06:35:14 PM cchase yes.. I find that they relate well to those in similar age bracket
2018-09-26 06:35:52 PM cchase yes... regs. require background checks and specific vaccines
2018-09-26 06:36:27 PM cchase we have college programs for college students to internship in our center
2018-09-26 06:36:59 PM cchase they learn a lot more in the industry being in the field
2018-09-26 06:37:24 PM karenfabian It's such a great experience for teens
2018-09-26 06:37:35 PM cchase yes..very much agree karen
2018-09-26 06:37:44 PM lisabean it probably is
2018-09-26 06:38:15 PM cchase my children started coming to my facilites at an early age and I see them very caring when they see elders
2018-09-26 06:38:50 PM cchase it is a very robust and busy day
2018-09-26 06:38:52 PM karenfabian I have three teens, that is my wish too! compassion
2018-09-26 06:39:05 PM cchase we also have a dentist visit and a podiatrist
2018-09-26 06:39:13 PM cchase rehab... too
2018-09-26 06:39:15 PM cristinahancock my children all volunteer and I believe it is because they spent so much time at my work

2018-09-26 06:40:42 PM cchase can relate to the scary part and pride too
2018-09-26 06:40:49 PM cristinahancock It didn't hurt that they had a disabled sister also
2018-09-26 06:41:12 PM cchase oh my gosh
2018-09-26 06:41:41 PM cristinahancock I believe being around the disabled teaches so much
2018-09-26 06:41:44 PM karenfabian Do you have therapy animals that come to visit?
2018-09-26 06:41:58 PM lisabean we have
2018-09-26 06:42:00 PM cchase so it seems that when we grow up knowing others that are challenged or in need we learn to become better human beings
2018-09-26 06:42:21 PM cristinahancock I couldn't agree more
2018-09-26 06:42:28 PM cchase yes..- therapy pet visits.... barn babies are my favoraite
