2020-07-23 07:22:26 PM nlisdahl I feel like the staff should respect the resident's right to say no.

2020-07-23 07:22:47 PM ryann more assisted living then
2020-07-23 07:22:47 PM nlisdahl I agree
2020-07-23 07:22:48 PM webernicole Our residents are able to say no and dictate when they want certain things done and we try our best to accommodate those wishes
2020-07-23 07:22:49 PM tashawade no one
2020-07-23 07:22:50 PM lbaker1989 i agree

2020-07-23 07:22:59 PM nlisdahl No one
2020-07-23 07:22:59 PM michelled but it is their right to fall
2020-07-23 07:23:00 PM seanj If it were more person centered, maybe more residents would maintain some of their independence instead of giving up all together because the actions of the staff are constantly telling them, "You are not that important."\
2020-07-23 07:23:00 PM cchase to monitor
2020-07-23 07:23:00 PM maninder agree

2020-07-23 07:23:16 PM reneewhite alot of times its the families who want the schedule not so much the staff
2020-07-23 07:23:17 PM barbaramclaurin1 I still think that the current staff could be utilized in a different way to ensure that all participants are monitored appropriately.
2020-07-23 07:23:18 PM tshaw yes that are a have to
2020-07-23 07:23:21 PM atirado Culture change movement include resident-directed care and activities; home environment; relationships with staff, family, residents, and community; staff empowerment; collaborative and decentralized management continuous quality of care improvement .

2020-07-23 07:23:23 PM paula12 good staff
2020-07-23 07:23:28 PM racheldonohoue It's almost as if there should be a caregiver hired for one resident
2020-07-23 07:23:29 PM susanpmazziotta I think regulations are likely different and funding can make a big difference on how we could improve a mimic some of the wonderful models out there.
2020-07-23 07:23:29 PM cchase good barbara
2020-07-23 07:23:29 PM michaeld I agree
2020-07-23 07:23:29 PM sierrafannin a greenhouse affect could help with behaviors

2020-07-23 07:23:33 PM katieunderwood I feel like the residents would do better if they had more 1:1 attention

2020-07-23 07:23:42 PM lbaker1989 yes! the aides just wheel the residents into the dining room and leave my 2 staff members in their by themselves
2020-07-23 07:23:43 PM maninder it requires more staff and also more qualified staff
2020-07-23 07:23:44 PM tombattleboar I just feel like we need more staff currently, and due too this staff going on we are short staffed at times
2020-07-23 07:23:44 PM balvarez It is

2020-07-23 07:24:11 PM cchase yes - behaviors - which it better - do what you feel like doing or stick to the routine when it comes to behaviors
2020-07-23 07:24:17 PM 219999 i know we dont keep alot off staff and patients here
2020-07-23 07:24:25 PM marisah4 a bit of both might be good
2020-07-23 07:24:34 PM ryann sometimes the behaviors are becuz of routine
2020-07-23 07:24:35 PM tshaw both some resident love routines
2020-07-23 07:24:37 PM susanpmazziotta Getting staff to buy in is always interesting, more education and encourgement and making them feel they are part of the successes.
2020-07-23 07:24:38 PM clcroom depends on the behavior
2020-07-23 07:24:39 PM brittanyanne24 i feel like it depends on the resident
2020-07-23 07:24:39 PM ashleyk Thankfully my team all works together very well.

2020-07-23 07:24:51 PM martinezbetty depends on the resident
2020-07-23 07:24:51 PM sherryllincoln Routines work better for people with behavior problems
2020-07-23 07:24:53 PM dewardrd enter the chat room
2020-07-23 07:24:54 PM michr I would imagine staffing budget would be higher.
2020-07-23 07:24:58 PM bonnie I have good staff at my facility. we all work together as a team to makew sure the residents are taken care of
2020-07-23 07:24:58 PM atirado We have staff upset because the company pays outsourced help alot more than paying full time staff what the deserve.
2020-07-23 07:24:59 PM tashawade I think it is good to stick to a routine it provides comfort and security
2020-07-23 07:25:01 PM haleypettigrew i think routine is important, but spontaneity every once and a while is much appreicated by my residents
2020-07-23 07:25:02 PM sandishell19 depends on the person some people do better with schedule
2020-07-23 07:25:02 PM arshieta83 i think it depends on hoe the resident response to it
2020-07-23 07:25:03 PM lavelar13 ryan because of routine and staff! residents will respond to what they are given
2020-07-23 07:25:03 PM webernicole Behaviors have to be person centered you cant handle all behaviors the same
2020-07-23 07:25:04 PM balvarez The residents all have a routine
2020-07-23 07:25:05 PM martinezbetty depends on the resident
2020-07-23 07:25:06 PM sierrafannin routines are always good
2020-07-23 07:25:07 PM lyndsayt stick to the routine unless it is not working and you feel strongly abut changing things up
2020-07-23 07:25:09 PM lbaker1989 i personally like routines. some residents like the routines and others dont
2020-07-23 07:25:09 PM 219999 dependent on the resident
2020-07-23 07:25:13 PM reneewhite i agree it depends on the residents behaviors
2020-07-23 07:25:14 PM susandziegenbein I think it depends on the person. Some people desire routine in their lives and others don't want any set schedule
2020-07-23 07:25:16 PM janinereyesad then change if it doesn't work untill you find a plan that works
2020-07-23 07:25:17 PM clarissam behaviors are hard in memory care
2020-07-23 07:25:18 PM sierrafannin left the chat room
2020-07-23 07:25:20 PM michelled some have behaviors because of their routine being messed up
2020-07-23 07:25:20 PM racheldonohoue Especially residents with dementia. I feel like they thrive more from routine.
2020-07-23 07:25:21 PM dianemgonzalez i would say stick more on the routine side but still stay flexible
2020-07-23 07:25:22 PM gwenbess Residents crave consistancing. Schedules and routines are important to them.
2020-07-23 07:25:22 PM marisah4 true
2020-07-23 07:25:25 PM esmec stick to routine it throws them off once they are use to a routine
2020-07-23 07:25:26 PM cchase indeed - the truth is that routine and predictability is better suited for someone with dementia - or Alz
2020-07-23 07:25:27 PM diovanneb depends on the resident; they sometimes change their minds too
2020-07-23 07:25:28 PM barbaramclaurin1 I think it depends on the circumstances. You can't always get people to buy into what is going on. I think they should have the right to bow out if they like.
2020-07-23 07:25:28 PM tombattleboar we had 2 activities assistant's now it's just me every weekend only

2020-07-23 07:25:44 PM seanj Routines are good for certain residents. Some residents are flower children and need their spontaneity.

2020-07-23 07:26:08 PM lavelar13 many more reasons
2020-07-23 07:26:17 PM gailgilberto agreed for MC
2020-07-23 07:26:17 PM scibaamanda routines are good for most residents, however, you have to be flexible with behaviors

2020-07-23 07:26:25 PM barbaramclaurin1 Dealing with Dementia and Alzheimers is a bit different. Symptoms must be managed with respect to the condition.
2020-07-23 07:26:26 PM seanj You can't "Once size fits all" residents any more than you can children in a classroom.
2020-07-23 07:26:28 PM balvarez I always try my best to stick with their routines

2020-07-23 07:26:29 PM atirado .....Same staff!
2020-07-23 07:26:31 PM marisah4 but its the less residents in the green house is why they can even make it work and im sure it is very very expenisve to live there
2020-07-23 07:26:36 PM nlisdahl Because they would get more confused if it's different.
2020-07-23 07:26:38 PM michaeld Routines are a must!!!
2020-07-23 07:26:41 PM 219999 yes and its hard to get them under control

2020-07-23 07:26:44 PM lbaker1989 i agree
2020-07-23 07:26:46 PM susandziegenbein I find that working with my autistic kids that they absolutly need routine. Perhaps this translates to memory care residents??
2020-07-23 07:26:46 PM racheldonohoue My heart does go out to all of the residents during this time. This is definitely a culture change for them, and definitely throws off their routine. Especially for the memory care unit residents.
2020-07-23 07:26:47 PM lavelar13 agree with same faces but again staff is so hard to keep

2020-07-23 07:26:58 PM jessiev1 It's important to know that they are all 'individuals', and should be dealt wih accordingly.
2020-07-23 07:26:59 PM sierrafannin different staff have different approaches
2020-07-23 07:27:01 PM 219999 so i thing u would need a routine

2020-07-23 07:27:12 PM gwenbess Having to remind them everyday about social distancing has been a factor in our schedules and routines. They get frustrated when the have to sit two to a table and 6 feet apart.

2020-07-23 07:27:14 PM sherryllincoln Everyday is groundhog day!! works best for dementia
2020-07-23 07:27:15 PM martinezbetty Some residents say-- All we ever do is--- while others say i hope we do this every day!

2020-07-23 07:27:40 PM webernicole Routine really needs to be based off of the person, not all residents can accommodate the same routine... yes some sort of routine is important though
2020-07-23 07:27:41 PM paula12 i agree differrent appoaches
2020-07-23 07:27:41 PM cchase no worries

2020-07-23 07:28:31 PM haleypettigrew my memory care residents are actually the best when it comes to straying from routine! they are always up for anything with no complaints
2020-07-23 07:28:39 PM michelled yes it is
2020-07-23 07:28:47 PM tshaw yes they are
2020-07-23 07:28:49 PM marisah4 thats true
2020-07-23 07:28:51 PM cchase so I vote for the ever embracing invitations as opposed to schedule
2020-07-23 07:28:52 PM maninder true
2020-07-23 07:28:52 PM michr Culture change lets the resident do things on their own schedule such as bathing and toileting as well as going to bed and getting up. It is a much more home like atmosphere. I would imagine this type of environment would require more staff to make sure there was enough people to help the residents if they needed it to go about their daily life on their own time.
2020-07-23 07:28:54 PM marisah4 party every day
2020-07-23 07:28:56 PM nlisdahl Yes approach is so important!

2020-07-23 07:28:59 PM susandziegenbein Just as we all have individual needs, so do the residents. So different approach on everyone

2020-07-23 07:29:03 PM lavelar13 im sure memory care is difficulkt specially for the ones who have family that would come to see them

2020-07-23 07:29:23 PM susanpmazziotta Everyone is challenged by staffing and not enough support at times, this is real life and that is why support one another on the team and in turn supporting the residents.
2020-07-23 07:29:25 PM lbaker1989 i love it! party every day! thats a good way to look at it
2020-07-23 07:29:25 PM martinezbetty enter the chat room

2020-07-23 07:29:26 PM bethaldrich5 our residents have actually done well with covid changes- they are certainly curious, but we try to put as much of the change on us, so it's less on them
2020-07-23 07:29:28 PM ryann i agree celeste
2020-07-23 07:29:33 PM paula12 sometimes you just hhave to go with the flow

2020-07-23 07:29:33 PM sierrafannin yes
2020-07-23 07:29:35 PM racheldonohoue I think with memory care, what we mean by routine, is familiar faces and places. Maybe not necessarily activities.

2020-07-23 07:29:56 PM arshieta83 yes
2020-07-23 07:29:57 PM tashawade what works for one resident may not work for another
2020-07-23 07:29:58 PM cchase you need to make an offer they can't refuse - LOL
2020-07-23 07:30:00 PM jessiev1 different approaches to invitations, even for things outside of their assessed preferences
2020-07-23 07:30:00 PM sierrafannin familiarities*
2020-07-23 07:30:02 PM barbaramclaurin1 Some people at my facility are die hard schedule-proned. Without, it is as if they are thrown off when they come in. If the change is a good one, they usually adapt well.
