2018-01-02 07:25:25 PM denisec we also have begun to utilize food trucks in our area. The members who do not feel comfy going OUT feel like that are having an outing anyway

2018-01-02 07:25:48 PM rickyd Regulations for WA Activity Directors was a little obsure. When reviewing the guidelines item: 388-97-0940 was the only specific to activities. In speaking to my administrator, he seemed to think this was right, and all other requirement/guidelines are Federally regulated.
2018-01-02 07:25:49 PM cmccorkel79 We have an activity we call noodle wars, we give the residents about a hundred noodles and they use them as currency for purchasing items that we auction off.
2018-01-02 07:25:54 PM bthomas me either! we have a DJ come late once a week and in the summer we do it outside the residents love it!
2018-01-02 07:25:57 PM janaj Are they $$$ ?
2018-01-02 07:26:11 PM sanctify77 I think a "senior prom" inviting family would be fun

2018-01-02 07:27:00 PM rickyd However, I have reached out to other area activity directors for feedback, but due to the holidays and vacations I have not heard back from anyone yet.

2018-01-02 07:30:07 PM alisonk Do the residents want to cut back on religous activities? It should be up to them I think

2018-01-02 07:33:31 PM rickyd Talking about Christmas.... Santa was in the house for 2.5 hours. Everyone received a gift and visit (for those unable to attend the party). It was a great afternoon of fun and fellowship; one of our resident ladies has been assisting as Santa's Elf for 34 Christmas (at one location or another)...she loved it, when asked if she would be willing to assist Santa this year.

2018-01-02 07:35:10 PM kathyhughes but its 30+ years of finding community projects for the residents
2018-01-02 07:35:11 PM bthomas We had Santa and Mrs.Claus they handed out gifts and sang carols with the residents
2018-01-02 07:35:12 PM denisec yikes... hard when they know someone is coming and they bail...

2018-01-02 07:45:39 PM kathyhughes It was
2018-01-02 07:45:42 PM madip Do any of you have an indoor garden, and if so what activities do you host with it?
2018-01-02 07:45:56 PM alisonk It would be fun to have award ceremony for facility staff.
2018-01-02 07:46:07 PM denisec We do that as well Alison~
2018-01-02 07:46:13 PM davidberumen I know we like to use our garden to make small salads for snacks in our community!
2018-01-02 07:46:24 PM jeri I am going to have a local school classroom make me some pictures to hang on the wall in the dinning room like you would on the fridge at home and have the residents vote on their favorite and have a prize for that child. We used to have kids come play bingo with the residents
2018-01-02 07:46:25 PM denisec we host the dinner together and it really is a nice turn out
2018-01-02 07:46:38 PM jpocorello001 The activity director is planning on throwing a party for her volunteers and co-workers.
2018-01-02 07:46:43 PM bthomas We use WOW bucks for our staff other staff or residents or residents families can nominate staff
2018-01-02 07:47:00 PM gswanson thank you kathy for everything and do you need my state policy on what excatly ? for first week
2018-01-02 07:47:03 PM monikadover I worked at a facility with an indoor garden and we had a table flower bed and the residents enjoyed planting flowers in it
2018-01-02 07:47:14 PM denisec oh Lovely!!

2018-01-02 07:47:25 PM kathyhughes No....I do not need it from you this week
2018-01-02 07:47:27 PM alisonk Maybe it would be fun to have residents cast fun Yearbook" votes like most fun to be with, best dressed etc...
2018-01-02 07:47:43 PM bthomas thats a good idea alison

2018-01-02 07:48:18 PM gswanson lol*
2018-01-02 07:48:24 PM denisec tough question- how does your facility deal with death grief in members? Do you announce, or just to those asking?
2018-01-02 07:48:46 PM sanctify77 very informative
2018-01-02 07:49:15 PM kamyron12 just to those who ask here
2018-01-02 07:49:20 PM jpocorello001 cookbook I like it!
2018-01-02 07:49:24 PM alisonk If it was a long timer, we would hold a memorial service in our chapel to allow them to grieve
2018-01-02 07:49:34 PM theresas1014 we announce and put up a special memorial and hold a service
2018-01-02 07:49:36 PM bthomas Just to those who ask at my facility
2018-01-02 07:49:42 PM jeri ususlly just those asking. Our admin wants to research this and maybe have something for those grieving to be able to say good by
2018-01-02 07:49:48 PM kathyhughes We would set up a guest book on the floor and residents and staff could sign it and we would send it to the families...we also did a Memorial service quarterly and mention the resident at the weekly service
2018-01-02 07:50:02 PM rickyd I am an Ordained Minister, however working as an Activities Director I am very careful and cautious in what I share with resident groups. I think my personal beliefs are and can be wittnessed through my attitude and actions.
2018-01-02 07:50:06 PM denisec we have started lighting a candle and announcing as well as making cards for the family from the members who wished to do so

2018-01-02 07:50:28 PM sanctify77 weve had family members do memorials at our facility
2018-01-02 07:50:30 PM kathyhughes We would set up the guest book with a picture of the resident and flowers so that everyone could participate
2018-01-02 07:50:48 PM kamyron12 thats very thoughtful kathy

2018-01-02 07:51:19 PM denisec I love the picture idea... we only have about 25-30 members per day, but some do forget faces if not a daily member
2018-01-02 07:51:31 PM sanctify77 (y)(L)
