2017-11-30 07:02:23 PM kathyhughes Yes it does not work with a tablet or phone
2017-11-30 07:02:27 PM chaplaindeb Activities for blind: get string and glue. Outline a coloring page with string and they can color/paint inside the string shapes, or sprinkle with sand/rice/beans.
2017-11-30 07:02:28 PM ashley04 be have a resident that is blind. She has brail bingo cardsand brail decks of cards of a variety of games. She does everything that the others do
2017-11-30 07:02:32 PM dorisr2001 also depending where you are outside
2017-11-30 07:02:44 PM gmollan What about sensory items. Making guessing game out of stuf in a bag or like a geled sensory item. Also Trivia. Just beacuse they cant see it doesnt mean they wont enjoy playing
2017-11-30 07:02:56 PM courtneyr2009 we have a deaf resident
2017-11-30 07:03:09 PM courtneyr2009 we are all taking ASL
2017-11-30 07:03:09 PM kathyhughes I would contact your local association that works with blind and deaf residents
2017-11-30 07:03:10 PM dorisr2001 music again vibration
2017-11-30 07:03:32 PM kathyhughes Also I am sure there are ideas on Pinterest
2017-11-30 07:03:44 PM dorisr2001 absolutely
2017-11-30 07:03:46 PM nikiawyche enter the chat room
2017-11-30 07:04:05 PM courtneyr2009 Pinterest is a great resource
2017-11-30 07:04:13 PM chaplaindeb My blind residents LOVED to make stress balls. You get some of the gel balls (the kind you put in vases to hold water-the water soaks in and they turn into jelly balls.) You soak some and make them into the moist balls (feels like fish eyeballs, which is fun by itself). Then you fill clear balloons partway with them and tie them off and you get the COOLEST stress balls.
2017-11-30 07:04:14 PM asjodin thanks for the ideas everyone!
2017-11-30 07:04:16 PM kathryn1 As A/D first meeting w/State????? Was good I thought but DON, Admin very wrecked...for some reason..Speak the truth and shame the devil
2017-11-30 07:04:29 PM nikiawyche hello everyone
2017-11-30 07:04:32 PM shawna so talking about leadership....
2017-11-30 07:04:41 PM dorisr2001 we made them last week they are awesome
2017-11-30 07:04:42 PM kathyhughes Tonight we will be talking about NCCAP certification
2017-11-30 07:04:58 PM kathyhughes Let's start at the begining
2017-11-30 07:05:16 PM kathryn1 Just purchased jell balls, have 1 blind resident
2017-11-30 07:05:28 PM kathyhughes The first component is the Academic Component
2017-11-30 07:06:00 PM ashley04 I am nervous to take the national test. I have really bad test anxiety
2017-11-30 07:06:02 PM kathyhughes For NCCAP certification you need at least 12 college credits and it has to include an English course
2017-11-30 07:06:32 PM cynkarnes76 it doesn't matter how long ago, right?
2017-11-30 07:06:35 PM kathyhughes Do you have at least 12 college credits including an English course?
2017-11-30 07:06:37 PM christinadepolo trying to get my transcript are we to submit it with the application
2017-11-30 07:06:43 PM ashley04 I do
2017-11-30 07:06:43 PM dorisr2001 yes I do
2017-11-30 07:06:43 PM asjodin yes
2017-11-30 07:06:45 PM christie9 yes
2017-11-30 07:06:45 PM jamiebernard i dont :(
2017-11-30 07:06:48 PM kathyhughes No college credits never expire
2017-11-30 07:06:49 PM courtneyr2009 I have a BA in sociology
2017-11-30 07:06:50 PM chaplaindeb Is the national test online, or do I have to go somewhere to take it
2017-11-30 07:06:51 PM christinadepolo yes
2017-11-30 07:06:54 PM gmollan Right now I am ADPC certified through NCCAP. I have just one more class standing in my way through college. I have three children and a life outside of home with work. It can be hard but done!
2017-11-30 07:06:55 PM chaplaindeb I have a BA in education.
2017-11-30 07:07:04 PM cynkarnes76 yes and more
2017-11-30 07:07:07 PM shawna Im glad I dont want national cert
2017-11-30 07:07:20 PM kathryn1 How many hours of college English Kathy, 3 or 6?
2017-11-30 07:07:22 PM ashley04 Why not
2017-11-30 07:07:27 PM kathyhughes Well if you don't have the college credits do not worry
2017-11-30 07:07:35 PM ashley04 if you dont mind me asking
2017-11-30 07:07:55 PM kathyhughes English course can be any amount of credits
2017-11-30 07:08:06 PM kathryn1 ok
2017-11-30 07:08:14 PM jamiebernard it seems less appealing to go ahead with the certification (without college credits) and only be an AAC
2017-11-30 07:08:20 PM chaplaindeb HA...I'm an English teacher. Got that one taken care of, anyway.
2017-11-30 07:08:26 PM cynkarnes76 Do I have to send my transcripts from all my institutions? ( I have a BSSW from 2000 and an Associates for my OTA program)
2017-11-30 07:08:27 PM shawna there is not any reason for it because I wont be moving to another state
2017-11-30 07:08:44 PM kathyhughes So you will need a copy of your High School diploma and a copy of your college transcripts the official ones
2017-11-30 07:08:46 PM courtneyr2009 english courses are offered the first year of college
2017-11-30 07:09:13 PM dorisr2001 I sent all this in after the first Mepap I course
2017-11-30 07:09:13 PM kathyhughes Cynthia I would use the BS degree
2017-11-30 07:09:14 PM christinadepolo ok
2017-11-30 07:09:19 PM asjodin got it!
2017-11-30 07:09:20 PM courtneyr2009 can you just do a copy of your degree
2017-11-30 07:09:22 PM gmollan Yes and they only take a certain amount of years in the past. That is why i had to redo some of mine. The years past since college
2017-11-30 07:09:33 PM pdunn60 enter the chat room
2017-11-30 07:09:37 PM moniques once you submit the applications the test date is optional or they give you a date?
2017-11-30 07:09:37 PM kathyhughes No they need your official college transcripts
2017-11-30 07:09:41 PM cynkarnes76 Ok, thanks Kathy, plus I am couting my pennies.
2017-11-30 07:09:48 PM ashley04 ok just curious. My facility said that they would pay for everything so I went on and going to get nationally certified just incase I move
2017-11-30 07:09:48 PM courtneyr2009 okay thank you
2017-11-30 07:09:54 PM chaplaindeb I just ordered my offical transcript. Apparently they were engraved in stone back them so it takes a while....
2017-11-30 07:10:03 PM asjodin LOL
2017-11-30 07:10:13 PM christie9 haha
2017-11-30 07:10:16 PM kathryn1 What if you cannot get a copy of your H/S transcript only college?
2017-11-30 07:10:25 PM kathyhughes Yes it takes awhile to get them...I got a lecture from the Nuns when I asked
2017-11-30 07:10:57 PM cynkarnes76 I do not finish this course til the end of January, when should I order my transcripts?
2017-11-30 07:11:07 PM asjodin I ordered my transcripts online-super easy and $5 cost
2017-11-30 07:11:13 PM chaplaindeb How do we schedule the exams?
2017-11-30 07:11:20 PM kathyhughes You need your High School diploma unless on your college transcripts it states that you have graduated High School
2017-11-30 07:11:29 PM kathyhughes I will get to that Deb
2017-11-30 07:11:36 PM chaplaindeb OK.
2017-11-30 07:11:44 PM kathyhughes Cynthia I would ask now
2017-11-30 07:11:50 PM kathyhughes so that you have them
2017-11-30 07:11:53 PM nikiawyche What if you are doing track 6
2017-11-30 07:12:00 PM dorisr2001 Kathy I sent this all in after the course and got a temporary directors license Do I have to resend it again
2017-11-30 07:12:09 PM cynkarnes76 Thanks Kathy, should they be sent directly to NCCAP or to me?
2017-11-30 07:12:09 PM moniques copy of the transcript is not valid?
2017-11-30 07:12:10 PM courtneyr2009 yeah I am going to ordere mine
2017-11-30 07:12:30 PM kathyhughes Have them sent to someone in your facility that will give them to you
2017-11-30 07:12:43 PM kathyhughes I had mine send to the HR director
2017-11-30 07:12:53 PM courtneyr2009 can we get them sent to our homes
2017-11-30 07:13:01 PM asjodin I sent mine to my house
2017-11-30 07:13:03 PM kathyhughes You have to have the official transcript
2017-11-30 07:13:07 PM gmollan Yes you can
2017-11-30 07:13:15 PM kathyhughes I believe so but not sure

2017-11-30 07:14:45 PM christinadepolo ok
2017-11-30 07:14:55 PM jamiebernard ok
2017-11-30 07:14:59 PM nikiawyche ok
2017-11-30 07:15:00 PM kathryn1 ok
2017-11-30 07:15:03 PM moniques ok
2017-11-30 07:15:05 PM dorisr2001 ok
2017-11-30 07:15:05 PM courtneyr2009 ok
2017-11-30 07:15:05 PM kathyhughes 1 Year full time is equal to 2,000 hours
2017-11-30 07:15:17 PM ashley04 I have had a little over 51/2 years in AL IL
2017-11-30 07:15:31 PM chaplaindeb A little over 2 years here.
2017-11-30 07:15:31 PM kathyhughes So depending on which Track you pick will depend on the hours that you need
2017-11-30 07:15:50 PM cynkarnes76 I will have 3 years part time in February from 2 different facilities
2017-11-30 07:15:53 PM jamiebernard 8 yrs for me
2017-11-30 07:16:01 PM asjodin 1 year 2 months for me

2017-11-30 07:16:31 PM shawna Why does anyone here want a national certifacation. Just asking
2017-11-30 07:16:45 PM asjodin required for me
2017-11-30 07:16:46 PM cynkarnes76 What happens if I am short on hours? I tried to get a copy of hours from my last job from HR, but their version of Hours was a copy of my pay?
2017-11-30 07:16:51 PM kathryn1 On current job 3 mos as a f/t a/d
2017-11-30 07:17:20 PM kathyhughes left the chat room
2017-11-30 07:17:24 PM chaplaindeb Required for me.
2017-11-30 07:17:25 PM gmollan It futhers your education and gets you more money..... always nice. Now and days most facilities require it
2017-11-30 07:17:25 PM ashley04 I want it so if I move I do not have to get re certified for that state. I am single so you never know where my future leads
2017-11-30 07:17:29 PM shawna asjodin what type of facility do you work at that it is required?
2017-11-30 07:17:40 PM pdunn60 I have transcrips from the Community College I went to. It's not Credits where you can transfer it to any College tho. It was a two year program for Medical Adm. Assistant . English and other office related training where part of the training. What is the topic about/? I just signed on.
2017-11-30 07:17:50 PM asjodin Long Term Care-Minnesota
2017-11-30 07:18:21 PM asjodin We are talking about the requirements for the NCCAP certification
2017-11-30 07:18:23 PM shawna Big Bucks because you have nat cert?
2017-11-30 07:18:28 PM nikiawyche Shawna what typr of facility are you at and what state, for some states it required to be cert
2017-11-30 07:18:28 PM chaplaindeb I also like to have certification because of the staff (usually nurses) who say I'm JUST Activities....
2017-11-30 07:18:49 PM chaplaindeb A little extra cred never hurt
2017-11-30 07:18:57 PM asjodin :)
2017-11-30 07:19:00 PM kathryn1 True Chap...
2017-11-30 07:19:01 PM dorisr2001 Florida you need to be
2017-11-30 07:19:06 PM ashley04 I thought that we all had to be certified
2017-11-30 07:19:11 PM shawna LTC/rehab. only have to be qualified
2017-11-30 07:19:22 PM dorisr2001 ashley I thought so too
2017-11-30 07:19:34 PM nikiawyche wow we lost Kathy
2017-11-30 07:19:34 PM cynkarnes76 Apparently, my AD is grooming me to possibly fill his position in the future, scares the heck out of me right now.
2017-11-30 07:19:34 PM shawna ashly, not in some states
2017-11-30 07:19:39 PM asjodin I think we lost Kathy....
2017-11-30 07:19:57 PM nikiawyche did anyone feel the earthquake today it was in delware
2017-11-30 07:19:57 PM cynkarnes76 She probably got kicked off
2017-11-30 07:20:05 PM dorisr2001 kathy has let the chat lol
2017-11-30 07:20:10 PM kathryn1 It seem the State of TX requires certification
2017-11-30 07:20:27 PM shawna Kathryn-no
2017-11-30 07:20:29 PM cynkarnes76 Hey, we didn't but I think somebody said they knew someone that did.
2017-11-30 07:20:39 PM shawna Qualified
2017-11-30 07:20:51 PM chaplaindeb cynkarnes; that's AWESOME! I took over the department after they'd gone 3 months with no AD. I had no training at all; after a year I was still finding pieces of the process I didn't know I was supposed to be doing.
2017-11-30 07:20:53 PM kathyhughes enter the chat room
2017-11-30 07:21:01 PM pdunn60 Ok just found it. My experience in Secretary program for the STate Student loan for two years. 25 years as an Act. Director. Work in a Bookkeeping department for a Funeral home several years doing Death Certificates, payable/receivable's, All type of Secretary work..
2017-11-30 07:21:16 PM asjodin Same experience for me Deb!
2017-11-30 07:21:32 PM asjodin it's difficult....but also kind of nice to build it from the ground up!
2017-11-30 07:21:33 PM cynkarnes76 Pray for me, this course has been so ovewhelming. I would love just a few more years as an AA to up my game
2017-11-30 07:21:33 PM kathyhughes The reason there is a MEPAP course is to get NCCAP certified
2017-11-30 07:21:43 PM kathyhughes anyway
2017-11-30 07:22:09 PM kathyhughes For Track 6 you need 6 years experience
2017-11-30 07:22:12 PM nikiawyche cyn you are going to do fine
2017-11-30 07:22:33 PM nikiawyche ok kathy
2017-11-30 07:22:45 PM kathryn1 Thanks Kathy for saying that.
2017-11-30 07:22:48 PM courtneyr2009 we should all get NCCAP certified thats why we are taking the course
2017-11-30 07:22:57 PM ashley04 agreed
2017-11-30 07:22:58 PM kathyhughes So you will need the experience for certification
2017-11-30 07:23:04 PM pdunn60 My reason for me taking this MEPAP II course is to be NCCAP and teach training classes in my town or on line.
2017-11-30 07:23:05 PM jamiebernard So silly question, but no amount of experience can substitute for lack of college credits, right kathy?
2017-11-30 07:23:13 PM kathyhughes Depending on the Track that you use
2017-11-30 07:23:14 PM chaplaindeb What are the different tracks?
2017-11-30 07:23:26 PM cynkarnes76 So, Kathy, if I am short on hours, can I still take the national exam after I complete Mepap2
2017-11-30 07:23:39 PM kathyhughes If you have been in activities for over 6 years you can use Track 6
2017-11-30 07:23:52 PM chaplaindeb 2 years for me,
2017-11-30 07:23:56 PM jamiebernard oh ok
2017-11-30 07:24:04 PM kathyhughes Yes Cynthia if you have 3 of the 5 components
2017-11-30 07:24:11 PM chaplaindeb I was a volunteer for 12 years, but only AD for 2.
2017-11-30 07:24:13 PM kathyhughes You can use Track 4
2017-11-30 07:24:17 PM courtneyr2009 didnt we all say what track we were doing in MEPAP1
2017-11-30 07:24:29 PM dorisr2001 yes
2017-11-30 07:24:30 PM kathyhughes You did in MEPAP1
