2018-06-05 06:16:36 PM kathyhughes Remember that this was before GPS....so we would get to a corner and ask the residents if we should turn left or right....
2018-06-05 06:16:49 PM torihardy we take the residents to our local fair when it comes aroud they look forward to that every year
2018-06-05 06:16:50 PM jessicaw87 there isnt too much around us so most our outings are shooping, going out for icecream, or casino trips\

2018-06-05 06:17:41 PM kathyhughes I assisted all the residents to activities so I never experienced that
2018-06-05 06:17:45 PM acoffield thats sounds like fun Kathy

2018-06-05 06:19:36 PM jtilford I'll get them to the game:) We have 120 residents and I have 8 tickets. Its just that I bought more expensive tickets to make it easy for them. The last game they went to it was in the sun and they apparently had a horrible time. We are even buying all their food.
2018-06-05 06:19:43 PM patriciabates Thats what i love about this job, always an adventure

2018-06-05 06:19:50 PM 2960580 not bad
2018-06-05 06:19:52 PM trisha1903 its important to keep communication going with activities and nursing
2018-06-05 06:20:06 PM robertambadger mutualrespect goes a long way..it's all for the residents' benefit

2018-06-05 06:20:18 PM wandellav we have to share our van and it hard to get it on the week day so i can only use it on weekend
2018-06-05 06:20:20 PM lorik We cant transport more than 3 at a time. To shop at super Walmart that is a trip to another town. So it is slow going. We have 61 res. right now

2018-06-05 06:20:24 PM trisha1903 I learn something new everyday and I have been doing this for 13 years.
2018-06-05 06:20:31 PM tracylwhitman We are always looking for good care staff
2018-06-05 06:20:33 PM jtilford I let nursing know to bring them. They don't have to worry about the residents as long as I have them and they can focus on the ones who can't come.
2018-06-05 06:20:45 PM tracylwhitman I learn something new each day too.
2018-06-05 06:20:48 PM karenfabian what were the best 1 on 1 conversations that you could share? Do any stand out?

2018-06-05 06:21:17 PM dylonlankford93 Trisha I totally agree! Communitcation is key! Thank goodness for a "communication book"

2018-06-05 06:22:09 PM dianea1781 i wish cna's would help transport them to activities
2018-06-05 06:22:12 PM jtilford I did in the beginning. The residents didn't need to get up early for activities. Now they know-after nearly 6 months!
2018-06-05 06:22:16 PM pennyhunt i have aides offering to help when they see that i am being pulled in different directions when i am by myself
2018-06-05 06:22:34 PM laurajackson No, I didnt know about a communication log!
2018-06-05 06:22:38 PM tracylwhitman That is great Penny. Not all of us do
2018-06-05 06:22:40 PM wandellav i help out all the time in all department but its had for them to help me
2018-06-05 06:22:42 PM dylonlankford93 Karen, anytime anything big happens or even small things, we write it in the communication book.
2018-06-05 06:22:42 PM trisha1903 When ever I have food at a social and I have left overs cookies or cakes I give them to nursing, this is a good way to keep the bond thru food they love it
2018-06-05 06:22:47 PM amyb most of our aids will just sit and watch and do nothing
2018-06-05 06:22:48 PM diannekilroy Yes we have that rule they can get upwhen they want, but there should be a time frame, some dont get up till 11, so they miss breakfast
2018-06-05 06:22:51 PM robertambadger we don't have a log
2018-06-05 06:22:58 PM pennyhunt and thats too bad because its the residents that suffer for this
2018-06-05 06:22:58 PM jtilford I do the same thing Trisha-give them food
2018-06-05 06:23:00 PM karenfabian I feel like it's the patients that speak up if I am being pulled from calling bingo to wheeeling someone back to their room -
2018-06-05 06:23:10 PM tracylwhitman I have a communication binder for my assistants, I have no good way to comminicate with care staff
2018-06-05 06:23:14 PM jessicaw87 i have aproblems with staff getting them up too. just today i had to catch a resident as the showere team was bringing her out of the shower room because i knew if they put her in bed i wasnt gonna find help getting her back up for her birthday party
2018-06-05 06:23:30 PM acoffield thats what i do. i also invite them when we do things in activities
2018-06-05 06:23:36 PM maggiespitaleri1 enter the chat room
2018-06-05 06:23:52 PM pennyhunt i offer to help them when they say "they dont have help" so then they dont have an excuse
2018-06-05 06:23:56 PM lstarr PHYSICAL THERAPY HELPS GET OUR RESIDENTS TO ACTIVITIES
2018-06-05 06:23:58 PM skylarh our aides dont help me at all. I don't have an assistant and sometimes its challenging!
2018-06-05 06:23:58 PM adriennem thats too bad jessica
2018-06-05 06:23:59 PM amyb Our aids avoid activities at all cost
2018-06-05 06:24:00 PM torihardy yes Trisha1903 ! they always help when food is involved :D
2018-06-05 06:24:00 PM dylonlankford93 It helps alot with the 7-3,3-11,11-7 staff. We dont see each other so we dont know what comes up during the day. This is back in memory care. I actually think this is something we have to do for state regs.
2018-06-05 06:24:12 PM wandellav in our cooking class we let night shift come and join
2018-06-05 06:24:14 PM laurajackson That's a good idea, but our director doesnt listen to use about them not helping
2018-06-05 06:24:15 PM trisha1903 I remember a resident daughter saying to me you guys are so wonderful and have a calling to work in long term care, and she is right!
