2020-03-03 07:27:20 PM bstewart left the chat room

2020-03-03 07:28:14 PM russonick987 True that to
2020-03-03 07:28:19 PM eckhartdanielle Finding the motivation to keep pushing after exhaustive days and trying to get my social life to pause long enough to finish
2020-03-03 07:28:22 PM tracichambers time managing with everything on my plate frustrates me, but i am pushing through... one thing that helps is prayer, literally lol
2020-03-03 07:28:24 PM hnichols1 How scattered this website is. Drives me bananas. Keeping a detailed note book with printouts of everything helps.
2020-03-03 07:28:39 PM valeriepeace It is not easy doing all we have to do and keep up with school work, but we have to realize it will be worth all of our hard work
2020-03-03 07:28:44 PM briannal i agree hnichols1

2020-03-03 07:29:43 PM sarahmarsh Sherry, do you know if the state of Maine is only required to do MEPAP1? Kathy told my administrator only part one, but someone else from our state said both 1 and 2 are required.
2020-03-03 07:29:44 PM tracichambers according to what is required to be a director you have to take both classes

2020-03-03 07:30:52 PM tracichambers honestly, i have no idea. i just started two months ago and my boss said to invite preschool out to hunt. however, it'll be my next question for her on how it has been done in the past, and if i need to tweak it a bit
2020-03-03 07:30:53 PM jaimelalexander i did a paper egg hut once. printed out pics of eggs and tapped them to wall around unit with a golden egg...it was fun.

2020-03-03 07:31:48 PM sbarzak I HAVE THE RESIDENTS FILL AND HIDE THE EGGS-- THEIR GRANDCHILDREN AND STAFFS KIDS COME TO FIND THEM

2020-03-03 07:32:08 PM hnichols1 I do JUMBO plastic eggs through out our courtyards and floors with tickets to redeem prizes. If they have a child family member hunting for them I use standard eggs with tickets and candy.

2020-03-03 07:36:47 PM hnichols1 Also in addition to my staff I have the support of the DON and other department heads that help shake up excitment with both staff and residents for special events.

2020-03-03 07:45:39 PM hnichols1 If it isn't in the budget you agian could try and find a sponser. Local realty companies often picked up the tab at my last facility. My current placement is blessed.
2020-03-03 07:45:45 PM tiffym73 I almost forgot about march march madness.
2020-03-03 07:45:53 PM sbarzak THE BRACKET THAT COLLEGE BASKETBALL PUTS OUT FO RTHE TOURNEY
2020-03-03 07:45:54 PM tracichambers my staff does not seem like the type to help at all. its like we are always so short staffed, and asking them is getting into looks that im given, and i do good not to give those looks back lol. i just smile and walk on
2020-03-03 07:46:07 PM ciericah That's creative and everyone can participate
2020-03-03 07:46:44 PM elaine sparks some interest from those who might not regularly participate
2020-03-03 07:46:45 PM eckhartdanielle Getting staff to help eachother is essential to a great company, yet one of the hardest challenges
2020-03-03 07:47:00 PM pjbell that is for sure
2020-03-03 07:47:15 PM eckhartdanielle Provide an incentive like a raffle for staff participants
2020-03-03 07:47:41 PM vallen it so is co worker moral is low here because the management has its own issues and there is no communication
2020-03-03 07:47:42 PM elaine people like prizes and competitions
2020-03-03 07:47:55 PM pjbell we do dress down friday jean day for the residents
2020-03-03 07:47:57 PM sbarzak SO I HAD STAFF AND RESIDENTS CREATE VALENTINES BAGS AND THEY ALL PASSED OUT VALENTINES-- THE STAFF WHO DIDNT PARTICIPATE FELT LEFT OUT SO I KNOW MY NEXT PRLJECT THEY WILL PARTAKE IN
2020-03-03 07:48:28 PM ciericah Dont feel bad you're not the only one. I feel that I have to go get the residents, do my own activities alone, and take them back
2020-03-03 07:48:49 PM tracichambers it is crucial. and the company we work for shows no incentives for the employees. they gave us 250 bucks for a christmas party for over 100 employees. needless to say the only reason we had a christmas party is because the head nurses, me, human resources, and medical records helped out with buying things.
2020-03-03 07:48:52 PM eckhartdanielle and some will walk right by before they take even a single resident(n)
2020-03-03 07:48:53 PM pjbell thats what we do
2020-03-03 07:48:54 PM elaine could incorporate that idea for National Skilled Nursing Care Week
2020-03-03 07:49:00 PM sarahmarsh Same. Although some staff played charades today & the residents enjoyed it
2020-03-03 07:49:10 PM jaimelalexander left the chat room
2020-03-03 07:49:15 PM pjbell staff likes wii dance
2020-03-03 07:49:16 PM rsmale staff helps with that i work closely with out restoratve aide
2020-03-03 07:49:40 PM tracichambers girl, yes...i have to go to their rooms everyday and remiond them. making me late for my activities cuz i'm usually having to wheel them down there, and come back to wheel others that need help
2020-03-03 07:49:42 PM pjbell residents love to watch us
2020-03-03 07:49:51 PM hnichols1 I do a weekly trivia question/riddle with a prize for staff. I try to bring them as much amusement as possible to they have at least one moment of fun every shift they work. It might be small but it works.
2020-03-03 07:49:57 PM rsmale it helps that i was an aide first i have a good relationship witht the floor staff
2020-03-03 07:50:08 PM eckhartdanielle How sweet
2020-03-03 07:50:11 PM sbarzak OK -- SO HOW DO WE GET STAFF INVOLVED? I HAVE BEEN AT MY FACILITY FOR ALMOST A YEAR (AFTER BEING AT ONE FOR 17) AND THEY ARE FINALLY GETTING IT
2020-03-03 07:50:48 PM rsmale i invite them to some of the more exciting entertainers
2020-03-03 07:50:50 PM tracichambers i have no idea, its like the aids all have a chip on their shoulder there, and i try to be nice. some help but some act like i'm asking so much
2020-03-03 07:50:55 PM hnichols1 Bribe them with candy. I have yet to meet a staff member that wont help me out for a snickers! haha
2020-03-03 07:50:56 PM elaine keep inviting and make it fun - also appreciate them
2020-03-03 07:51:05 PM eckhartdanielle Show mutual respect for their time, provide them with important information as needed, invite them to participate in small ways at first, then bigger ways
2020-03-03 07:51:09 PM pjbell i find any activity with music, raffles and food
2020-03-03 07:51:17 PM sbarzak A SIMPLE THANKYOU GOES A LONG WAY TOO
2020-03-03 07:51:32 PM vallen and a treat will also help
2020-03-03 07:51:43 PM tracichambers ours just are not happy, and i think it is corporate because there is no appreciation shown from them.
2020-03-03 07:51:46 PM rsmale also i am an aide so i help them they help me. remind them if the residents are out in activities it will make their jobs easier
2020-03-03 07:51:58 PM elaine they love leftovers from activities
2020-03-03 07:52:04 PM vallen I agree we have the same issue
2020-03-03 07:52:05 PM erinm1 Trivia over the PA and first staff member that gets to the activity office wins a prize. it funny to see them try not to run!
2020-03-03 07:52:06 PM tracichambers i've only been there since december, and i just watcjh and listen, and thats what i gather
2020-03-03 07:52:20 PM vallen coporate doesnt seem to care enough
2020-03-03 07:52:23 PM russonick987 left the chat room
2020-03-03 07:52:30 PM jenniferslockbower I also have found that respect goes a long way with the CNA's in my building. But I will also say that it took a long time to get to where I am with them, it didn't happen overnight
2020-03-03 07:52:31 PM sbarzak I GAVE A PIZZA TO THE UNIT THAT HAD ALL THEIR RESIDENTS TO THE BEAUTICIAN WITHOUT ANY REFUSALS AND REMINDERS -- SO THE NEXT WEEK THEY ALL DID IT-- SO THEY GOT MILKSHAKES
2020-03-03 07:52:56 PM tracichambers no coporate doesn't at all, and its sad because i know if they showed them they cared, they would probably put in more effort
2020-03-03 07:53:05 PM valeriepeace We have contests for the staff like a chili cook off, ginger bread house contest, the residents vote, staff get prizes,
2020-03-03 07:53:09 PM hnichols1 Or i randomly pass out compliments. I just walk up and say "You're doing an awesome job." or "I wish I had stamina you do!" Sometimes they just want to be seen. it can take a while for them to warm up.
2020-03-03 07:53:22 PM eckhartdanielle That happens a lot and it hurts motivation. Although every individual can look at the postive side and have an affect on other staff.
2020-03-03 07:53:44 PM tracichambers hmmmm thats a good idea, but i already buy things with my money for activities sometimes, i can't do that all the time.
2020-03-03 07:53:50 PM sbarzak I LOVE ALL THESE IDEAS--- ARE THEY HELPING EVERYONE
2020-03-03 07:53:52 PM elaine Smile and make them laugh
2020-03-03 07:54:03 PM briannal yes very helpful!
2020-03-03 07:54:04 PM ciericah What I've learned is to find activities that dont cost a thing such as; tea time, relaxation, ballon toss. I know i dont have the help trying to juggle doing 2 activites a day with 80 plus residents. Not to mention, w no assist from my managemnet team or aides willing to help.
2020-03-03 07:54:11 PM pjbell yes helpful
2020-03-03 07:54:12 PM jenniferslockbower I think at the end of the day, most of the staff truly care about the resident and his and her wellbeing. We just need to remember we are all on the same team
2020-03-03 07:54:27 PM eckhartdanielle EXACTLY
2020-03-03 07:54:29 PM valeriepeace yes. great, helpful ideas

2020-03-03 07:55:09 PM valeriepeace I wanted to share that we are having a St Patricks Day parade, decorating walkers and wheel chairs.

2020-03-03 07:56:07 PM pjbell do the most important first, make folders
2020-03-03 07:56:17 PM hnichols1 1. Read the assignments. 2. Keep my binder organized. 3. Turn in the assignments!!! Ugh.
2020-03-03 07:56:26 PM ciericah I agree. It's our job to make a way to keep the residents happy while taking care of their person centered care needs individually
2020-03-03 07:56:29 PM rsmale lol
2020-03-03 07:56:33 PM sarahmarsh Get ahead with the practicum.
2020-03-03 07:56:50 PM pjbell please
2020-03-03 07:56:52 PM sbarzak PLEASE DO ME ONE THING:
2020-03-03 07:56:59 PM eckhartdanielle Practice self care, even for just 5 minutes every day. We all have commutes, lunch breaks, or time before bed to refresh ourselves, breathe, and clear our minds.
2020-03-03 07:57:01 PM elaine cut out distractions, ask for help
2020-03-03 07:57:01 PM sbarzak 1) MAKE YOUR DAILY LIST
2020-03-03 07:57:12 PM rsmale daily list?
2020-03-03 07:57:12 PM tracichambers gather our materials early, start making early trips to rooms to invite residents..well remind them, and ask for help
