2020-02-11 07:24:49 PM lissarobertson sarahmarsh I don't think it being baby boomers has anything to do with lack of interest. We have many baby boomers at our facility that participate. I think it's an individual likes and personality.
2020-02-11 07:24:53 PM susanpmazziotta Need to run and put up activities for tomorrow on the floors. It has been a long day! Please feel free to reach out to me at any time everyone. I am in a dual role-Guest service coordinator and Activities coordinator. Have a great evening! Looking forward to next Tuesday! Yes we repeat activities throughout the month.
2020-02-11 07:24:55 PM kathyhughes Sarah, I think the Boomers are used to choosing what they want to do and sometimes we do not have them plan the activities and assume that they don't want to do anything
2020-02-11 07:24:57 PM cak06008 as for the makeup club, a nurse in our facility comes on Saturdays to paint nails. Each resident has their own bottle of polish
2020-02-11 07:25:04 PM akolb food activities are good, some of our late stages can still sing or tap along to performers that come so we have alot of those in our smaller building

2020-02-11 07:26:23 PM jrackers6900 That why I love doing and getting Life Stories. That really helps to find out what the resident would like to do.
2020-02-11 07:26:25 PM akolb tiffany, having stations in your activity area with different activities could help with those who cannot focus on a specific activity
2020-02-11 07:26:44 PM brittcov1994 yes , we have done the door decorating contest before!
2020-02-11 07:26:46 PM sarahmarsh Interesting! Our admin. is really trying to put something different for each day. I feel like it would be easier to follow if there is a theme established for each day of the week. Example: music every Friday
2020-02-11 07:26:49 PM jordanjumper we hosted a 90s block party it was a huge success for younger and older residents

2020-02-11 07:27:44 PM russonick987 Hope the easte egg hunt goes well
2020-02-11 07:27:45 PM vallen we have a door project that the high school helped to get to know the residents and we custom made them a door it was a trail
2020-02-11 07:27:48 PM ajensen sarahmarsh, i think it helps having outings the same day, every friday. Or bingo on the same day or crafts the same day every week. It can help the residents adjust and get acquainted with the building
2020-02-11 07:27:56 PM dawncalexander We have different parties throughout the year for our residents
2020-02-11 07:28:01 PM kathyhughes Sarah, I am a Boomer and I would want new activities...we had music for over 40 years in the facility...how about music from the 90's or learn about new groups...
2020-02-11 07:28:02 PM briannal my facility has bingo 4 times a week...the residents asked for it in customer council
2020-02-11 07:28:03 PM valeriepeace I love planning the Easter Egg hunts!
2020-02-11 07:28:14 PM cak06008 when i first started, we did beading. to donate bracelts to the chemo ward of the local hospital. it was well received.

2020-02-11 07:28:51 PM vallen so now there will be three options and the resident gets to choose their favorite picture and that will be on their door indefinately
2020-02-11 07:28:56 PM jrackers6900 we do Bingo three times a week
2020-02-11 07:28:58 PM elaine My residents asked for keno weekly
2020-02-11 07:29:02 PM sarahmarsh Exactly, we have some musicians still being booked for residents who do not enjoy or are not familiar with that generation of music. & inevitably, some of those residents have passed away.
2020-02-11 07:29:05 PM jordanjumper oh gosh, we only have bingo 2x a week i could not imagine doing it more than that
2020-02-11 07:29:08 PM tracichambers what is keno
2020-02-11 07:29:08 PM susanpmazziotta I agree with Boomers-it is more challenging and they like their electronic toys. I am also looking for ideas for getting more magazines.
2020-02-11 07:29:10 PM russonick987 what is keno weekly
2020-02-11 07:29:10 PM vgreen How do you keep up with bingo prizes for 4x/wk?!

2020-02-11 07:29:13 PM akolb i have a course question for kathy, for the practicum assignments do we have to respond to 5 other students per assignment or task or all together for any of the assignments?
2020-02-11 07:29:19 PM brittcov1994 having a stable Activity schedule is good for some residents.
2020-02-11 07:29:22 PM tanya1 Wetre only allowed now 25%of the doors. Before i entered the Activity Department, the building would have different monthly contest for thye best. With a nprize of a gift card buying that department some lunch. but now the fire marshallk's in WV, have just about made it impossible. I've been in trouble # times since taking the Directors postion. But its been worth it, by the residents reactions.
2020-02-11 07:29:31 PM sarahmarsh We have booked a couple more modern musicians that they really respond well to
2020-02-11 07:29:34 PM briannal we give out prizes like snacks and such and it gets to be expensive with bingo that much. hopefully we can talk them into only like twice a week so we can incorporate more activities
2020-02-11 07:29:38 PM kathyhughes We had a stampin up consultant come once a month to teach rubber stamping to come of our residentss
2020-02-11 07:29:42 PM elaine keno is like bingo with cards
2020-02-11 07:30:17 PM susanpmazziotta Good question are we expected to respond to others posts?
2020-02-11 07:30:24 PM jrackers6900 I have a hard time playing keno. Which made it hard for the residents to follow along. We ended up doing Bingo
2020-02-11 07:30:43 PM tanya1 What's rubber stamping?
2020-02-11 07:30:48 PM akolb i thought i had read we were supposed to but seemed like i was only one doing it so i though i might have had it wrong

Even the late stage dementia residents can pick out which color paper they want or what sticker to put on their page. we do one page per week usually. It's been a few weeks and they all enjoy looking through their books even if they don't remember making it. Also a very nice keepsake for familly members if they should unfortunately pass away
