2020-01-21 07:11:46 PM cchase if management is not forthcoming with info. that grapevine starts
2020-01-21 07:11:53 PM czuniga for critical access hospital
2020-01-21 07:12:00 PM spankylee99 in most cases it is a lack of communication resulting in a lack of respect
2020-01-21 07:12:01 PM pennysloan Resident Council Meetings is one thing
2020-01-21 07:12:05 PM splush2402 ohhhh... interesting cchase
2020-01-21 07:12:08 PM benitad we had Quality assurance performance inprovement which work for me
2020-01-21 07:12:11 PM nmcnutt1 I'm in Skilled/Rehab, Memory care, and Long term care all under one roof

2020-01-21 07:12:32 PM elenamv We have a morning manager meeting every weekday, and I email our activity aides for the day with what's going on. Our staff are all big on emailing each other.. Or just popping into offices
2020-01-21 07:12:37 PM missmara1991 does anyone know what we need to do for the part of the assisggment that asks about the 5 settings and how we interview someone in the other settings? can we interview one another? i was confused about it

2020-01-21 07:13:03 PM cchase grapevine can be a suspicious staff member or worried one that is not getting info. direct from upper mgmt
2020-01-21 07:13:12 PM dawncalexander hello all new here I am from a nursing home in Florida
2020-01-21 07:13:18 PM nmcnutt1 the settings are listed in Week 2
2020-01-21 07:13:19 PM czuniga I'm going to call different facilities in our area
2020-01-21 07:13:20 PM jessicabaucom Welcome Dawn
2020-01-21 07:13:23 PM kavitajc Communication is lack from department to department and supervisor and staff and at times the older staff is not interested
2020-01-21 07:13:24 PM laurenjb My ED is very negative and it is causing issues as my staff is quitting..... or becoming unmotivated, they hide when they see her.....
2020-01-21 07:13:37 PM missmara1991 but it says we need to interview someone, how do we do that if we only work in one of the settings?
2020-01-21 07:13:38 PM joannet @missmara1991- I was too because it didn't list the 5 settings???
2020-01-21 07:13:49 PM missmara1991 the 5 settings are listed from week 2
2020-01-21 07:13:56 PM missmara1991 but doesnt say who we need to interview
2020-01-21 07:14:13 PM joannet oh ok thanks @ missmara1991
2020-01-21 07:14:15 PM benitad Morning meeting is great lot of imfomation
2020-01-21 07:14:25 PM nmcnutt1 Either reach out via phone, email, or swing in I guess. I attend monthly meetings with various Activity Professionals so luckily I was able to contact a handful of people/places there
2020-01-21 07:14:25 PM ruthknable Celeste - because Management doesn't let the staff know things they should. And staff to staff is negative (especially in nursing) because they feel that management doesn't care. I've been with this organizaiton a long time in various capacities and try to get these folks to talk, but they won't. it's hard and we have to keep things 100% updbeat for the R's.
2020-01-21 07:14:30 PM cchase do you know that mgmt. is responsible to ensure communications are delivered to keep that grapevine down in size
2020-01-21 07:14:39 PM missmara1991 welcome @joannet
2020-01-21 07:14:48 PM ruthknable It's ironic that Management wants staff to talke to them but won't commuincate with staff.
2020-01-21 07:14:53 PM kavitajc You have to interview someone in the Nursing Department
2020-01-21 07:14:54 PM cchase yes - Ruth that is all too correct..
2020-01-21 07:14:54 PM elenamv There's a lot of negativity in the facility I'm in as well, especially with nursing staff.. Major issues with call offs and morale. Our DON and all four CCCs quit within a fgew weeks of each other. Our long term residents have really been suffering due to nursing turn over and constant changes.
2020-01-21 07:14:57 PM missmara1991 ooh ok thanks nmcnutt
2020-01-21 07:14:58 PM spankylee99 for wk 6 assignment small group planning guide. I will not be able to add resident signatures, cchase will that be a problem?
2020-01-21 07:15:01 PM cchase but mgmt. can change that
2020-01-21 07:15:10 PM tanya1 I agree
2020-01-21 07:15:17 PM tiffanyd agree
2020-01-21 07:15:19 PM dawncalexander Management usually doesn't like to interfer in the grapevine
2020-01-21 07:15:28 PM benitad I agree
2020-01-21 07:15:34 PM missmara1991 agreed
2020-01-21 07:15:38 PM kavitajc I agree
2020-01-21 07:15:46 PM dawncalexander I agree if they do get involved it stops rather quickly
2020-01-21 07:15:47 PM ruthknable Celeste, can you come to Ohio and tell them that. I've tried.
2020-01-21 07:15:50 PM angelalgreathouse i agree. communication has been slowly improving in facility. hope for it to continue
2020-01-21 07:16:22 PM czuniga If communication is broke at the top, it is bad all the way down
2020-01-21 07:16:23 PM missmara1991 communication will always be something that is complicated when it doesnt need to be
2020-01-21 07:16:25 PM cchase lack of infor. is what causes folks to kinda guess at the issue
2020-01-21 07:16:34 PM missmara1991 true
2020-01-21 07:16:40 PM dawncalexander I agree
2020-01-21 07:16:42 PM jessicabaucom true true
2020-01-21 07:16:43 PM nmcnutt1 amen cchase
2020-01-21 07:16:44 PM ruthknable I work in Assisted Living and my academic advisor is the AD in our Skilled so I get the best of both worlds I guess.
2020-01-21 07:16:46 PM tiffanyd alot of guessing
2020-01-21 07:16:47 PM czuniga truth
2020-01-21 07:16:47 PM tanya1 Iagree
2020-01-21 07:16:48 PM amanda true
2020-01-21 07:16:51 PM pennysloan Communication is our building is getting better.
2020-01-21 07:16:54 PM kavitajc I think in a nursing facility if they have more staff the care would be better
2020-01-21 07:17:06 PM cchase not always in positive ways. and yes Ruth send me the plane flight ticket and I'll be there 8-)
2020-01-21 07:17:11 PM torijarrett I agree kacitajc
2020-01-21 07:17:12 PM amanda agreed
2020-01-21 07:17:17 PM kathrynlsvec I feel like our communication is pretty good, but we just have an issue of getting thrown in and then not having all the training and have it kinda blow up when say state pops in.
2020-01-21 07:17:18 PM sluyterbbeka We have lots of gossip in our facility unfortunately...too much communication you could say...
2020-01-21 07:17:24 PM dawncalexander How do you make the communication better when a supervisor thinks they know everything and doesn't want to change anything
2020-01-21 07:17:35 PM missmara1991 hah yaa sometimes thats a big issue :(
2020-01-21 07:17:43 PM cchase mgmt. communication includes training
2020-01-21 07:17:51 PM joannet I agree that if management gossips then the rest of the staff will also because they think they can and then when management finds out about the gossip, the staff gets in trouble. But who corrects management???
2020-01-21 07:17:57 PM ruthknable Lack of information and communication also force employee resentment and they quit. We've been experiencing a lot of turnover due to this.
2020-01-21 07:18:07 PM tiffanyd there always someone higher then them
2020-01-21 07:18:08 PM missmara1991 maybe corporate?
2020-01-21 07:18:09 PM emelo sometimes the little changes we make as individuals is what helps make the big change
2020-01-21 07:18:11 PM sarah WE NEED WORK ON COMMUNICATION
2020-01-21 07:18:12 PM laurenjb One of our current big issues is that the staff on the floor do not feel appriciated by upper managment.
2020-01-21 07:18:23 PM missmara1991 emelo, so insightful and true!!!!!!
2020-01-21 07:18:27 PM angelalgreathouse i hd that issue i set up a meeting with the administator and the two of us so that we could go over stuff together and come up with a solution that worked
2020-01-21 07:18:30 PM pennysloan Our HR is one of the biggest gossiper
2020-01-21 07:18:33 PM cchase also the grapevine can be very secrative and no one really knows how the rumor got started
2020-01-21 07:18:36 PM czuniga go through the chain of command. always someone on top
2020-01-21 07:18:40 PM joannet only corporate would know if someone tells them what is going on
2020-01-21 07:18:45 PM jessicabaucom So Tiff what do you think?
2020-01-21 07:18:51 PM missmara1991 yaa thats true
2020-01-21 07:18:53 PM dawncalexander I think we should start a class on communications from the top to the very bottom and have everyone attend anyone think that would fly
2020-01-21 07:18:59 PM kavitajc Yes agree when the state pop up everyone that in bed is out and going to activities when you other plan for them on a regular basis. Cause the CNA act like they have no clue what to do
2020-01-21 07:18:59 PM cchase Geesh - HR is the biggest gossiper
2020-01-21 07:19:08 PM cchase not cool HR
2020-01-21 07:19:13 PM missmara1991 thats a great idea , dont know how it would work but i like the idea
2020-01-21 07:19:17 PM pennysloan Right
2020-01-21 07:19:21 PM kathrynlsvec i'm experiencing some turnover due to the last director not actually wrangling in the team and making sure they were working for the residents. now that i'm making sure activities start on time and am following proper channels and listening to my administrator, parts of the team are getting antsy.
2020-01-21 07:19:22 PM sarah ONE OF MY BIG PROBLEMS IS THAT THEY WANT GET SOME RES UP AND I HAVE WNT TO DON AND NOTHIG
2020-01-21 07:19:24 PM splush2402 Our ED has ZERO tolerance for gossip and drama. She has walked people out for it. It is a good policy to have. It keeps a positive atmosphere
2020-01-21 07:19:34 PM cchase yes - communications from top down ...
2020-01-21 07:19:35 PM elenamv I'm the assistant director, I've been at the facility since Oct and the director just left on maternity leave. Already having issues with the aides gossiping, especially one telling others that she wants my job and causing drama
2020-01-21 07:19:52 PM kathrynlsvec and YES why is HR always the biggest gossip?!
2020-01-21 07:19:54 PM jessicabaucom ouch
2020-01-21 07:19:55 PM kavitajc I think the class is a good idea and some of the videos are great hope it would open some people eyes
2020-01-21 07:20:01 PM cchase another thing is that mgmt should offer open door policy - again would decrease grapevine
2020-01-21 07:20:02 PM missmara1991 yaaa drama is the worst and thats a good policy to have where they just dont accept it
2020-01-21 07:20:04 PM sluyterbbeka We need to have a class that explains, just because your upper managment, doesnt mean your better than others.
2020-01-21 07:20:22 PM dawncalexander I thought you could always tell HR anything they do not keep you secret they spread it and make it worse
2020-01-21 07:20:26 PM tiffanyd our place is open door policy
2020-01-21 07:20:28 PM laurenjb We have an open door policy, but the door is always shut...
2020-01-21 07:20:40 PM dawncalexander we have an open door policy
2020-01-21 07:20:41 PM splush2402 lol @ laurenjb
2020-01-21 07:20:44 PM missmara1991 a lot of the time the upper management feels superior when really everyone is there for the same goals
2020-01-21 07:20:45 PM cchase lauren - I hope your kidding??
2020-01-21 07:20:46 PM spankylee99 HR should be non-biased and confidential unfortunatley that is not the case. We have employee hot-line to call if we cant get any help from in the building
2020-01-21 07:20:47 PM kavitajc our also open door policy
2020-01-21 07:20:49 PM emelo lol the door is alwats shut
2020-01-21 07:20:49 PM czuniga we have an open door policy and our hr is amazing
2020-01-21 07:20:50 PM laurenjb Nope
2020-01-21 07:20:51 PM nmcnutt1 Same our ED is pretty cut throat when it comes to drama and avoidable stress from staff. sadly though favoritism is a thing amongst managers
2020-01-21 07:20:53 PM dawncalexander the one time I used it everyone knew why I was in her office
2020-01-21 07:20:53 PM missmara1991 hahaha the door is always shut???????
2020-01-21 07:20:58 PM angelalgreathouse open door only applies to a certain cliche in our facility
2020-01-21 07:21:02 PM ruthknable If they say they want open door, it has to happen in a safe environment. Our staff doesn't trust our ED, there is an upper managemtne clique and folks find things out.
2020-01-21 07:21:08 PM splush2402 Our HR is amazing. ALL BUSINESS
2020-01-21 07:21:14 PM splush2402 She is so good at her job.
2020-01-21 07:21:15 PM czuniga same
2020-01-21 07:21:17 PM emilyac I like our HR, too
2020-01-21 07:21:20 PM pennysloan Lucky you.
2020-01-21 07:21:22 PM amanda My office has an open door policy. Some of the aides feel more comfortable coming to me than they do other department heads.. Plus I worked on the floor with them for the longest time and have built trust with them
2020-01-21 07:21:23 PM cchase yes Ruth well said
2020-01-21 07:21:30 PM julielangenderfer When you work in any job, especailly when you are with alot of people day in day out, gossip spreads like wildfire. I always have a problem with staff and others talking about residents business or their own personal business in front of everyone. I'm really putting my foot down about being more professional and taking conversations in private.
2020-01-21 07:21:31 PM tiffanyd my HR is great
2020-01-21 07:21:34 PM sluyterbbeka Our HR is great...it's the other department heads.....
2020-01-21 07:21:45 PM ruthknable My advisor said it best. Being activities in an AL is like overseeing middleschool. The problem is the school is being run by highschool cliques.
2020-01-21 07:21:47 PM cchase trust is earned my friends -
2020-01-21 07:21:48 PM splush2402 We have a clique here too.
2020-01-21 07:21:49 PM laurenjb the door is almost always shut unless corporate is in the building or state. I was the receptionist for awhile outside her office 90% of the time it was closed witha do not disturb sign...
2020-01-21 07:21:50 PM julielangenderfer unfortunately my "office" is the Activity Room out in the open so its tricky.
2020-01-21 07:21:54 PM tanya1 Our's is ok
2020-01-21 07:21:58 PM joannet what really makes me upset is when the sales marketer wants to "stage" an activity when a tour comes in especially when its bad timing like right after lunch or something. I tell her I will be doing activities at a certain time and I need to let the staff do their job as well so when they are done they will attend activities
2020-01-21 07:22:00 PM missmara1991 julie i really admire that u are putting your foot down and not put up with that
2020-01-21 07:22:05 PM valeriepeace I feel very fortunate because I dont experience drama. We all work smoothly together.
2020-01-21 07:22:11 PM nmcnutt1 I love my ED too. Alot to handle but earns respect quickly. We have the open door policy and its actually surprising I cant think of a single department head who doesn't follow that
2020-01-21 07:22:26 PM missmara1991 yaaa my facility doesnt really experience much drama either which im thankful for
2020-01-21 07:22:29 PM nmcnutt1 The kitchen manager maybe but residents aren't allowed in the kitchen so they cant reach him
2020-01-21 07:22:32 PM ruthknable You are very fortunate Valerie
2020-01-21 07:22:57 PM tiffanyd our sales marketer always buts in and trys to change thing on last day
2020-01-21 07:22:58 PM jessicabaucom Very fortunate Valerie
2020-01-21 07:22:58 PM julielangenderfer I went to all girls high school, hair school, and was a theatre major in college. I cant stand drama haha. Its worse in the "real world" especially working with people on a personal care basis.
2020-01-21 07:23:11 PM cchase well joanne - marketing should not direct to that degree... I sure it's well meaning to show off the best but you likely already to an amazing job
2020-01-21 07:23:16 PM emelo wow staging activities, never thought that would be thing
2020-01-21 07:23:16 PM angelalgreathouse you are very fortunate valerie
2020-01-21 07:23:18 PM dawncalexander How does everyone like working in activities? I am new to the game
2020-01-21 07:23:24 PM joannet @tiffanyd - so does mine-always last minute
2020-01-21 07:23:30 PM missmara1991 its very fun and keeps you on your toes for sure
2020-01-21 07:23:32 PM cchase how do you stop the grapevine???
2020-01-21 07:23:34 PM gayle78 left the chat room
2020-01-21 07:23:43 PM missmara1991 no 2 days are the same dawn...i hope u like it so far
2020-01-21 07:23:50 PM laurenjb My Marketer does thesame!
2020-01-21 07:23:51 PM amanda I love it....except for this week.
2020-01-21 07:23:52 PM kavitajc Sometimes its difficult to get everyone to a program at times off unit now we only have one elevator the other one is under construction and getting the aids to help good luck
2020-01-21 07:23:53 PM kathrynlsvec dawn, i do love it. it's stressful, but there's nothing better than connecting with the residents and helping them improve their daily life.
2020-01-21 07:23:55 PM jessicabaucom I don't think you can, slow it down but can't stop the grapevice
2020-01-21 07:23:56 PM julielangenderfer I never thought I woudl be working in the nursing field but here I am, enjoying most every minute of it. Figureing out tinme management skills is proving tobe difficult but nothing I cant handle.
2020-01-21 07:23:58 PM missmara1991 u just do your job and not get involved
2020-01-21 07:23:59 PM angelalgreathouse I absolutely love it. sometimes i miss working on the floor
2020-01-21 07:24:02 PM nmcnutt1 Joannet that is something I dealt with alot at my last position. She would warn us in the memory wing when people were coming so we could stage activities and ensure no "behaviors" were happening. It was honestly frustrating to listen to her demands when a tour was coming throughj
2020-01-21 07:24:09 PM czuniga Hr intervenes at our facility and nips it
2020-01-21 07:24:35 PM missmara1991 the activity field is growing and theres always room for growth
2020-01-21 07:24:39 PM cchase grapevines are often started by unhappy employees
2020-01-21 07:24:40 PM missmara1991 its very rewarding too
2020-01-21 07:24:48 PM tanya1 I agree
2020-01-21 07:24:51 PM missmara1991 unhappy people who dont have anything better to do
2020-01-21 07:24:54 PM splush2402 I have to tell myself to "stay in my own lane" ALL THE TIME
2020-01-21 07:24:57 PM ruthknable I have actually been working on this. When folks come to me to help spread the "word" I turn it into what can We do to make it better. That either gets them thinking or shuts them up quick
2020-01-21 07:24:59 PM missmara1991 ridiculous
2020-01-21 07:25:00 PM dawncalexander I love the residents that is the only reason I went into the nursing home. They are great and they become like family
2020-01-21 07:25:04 PM czuniga negativity rolls down hill unfortunately
2020-01-21 07:25:09 PM nmcnutt1 Getting aids to help is a problem I have been challneged with too. We have a few good gems who always help but others who stare at us getting a crowd of people down our elevator to no help at all
2020-01-21 07:25:11 PM splush2402 Negativity is SO contagious
2020-01-21 07:25:12 PM tiffanyd very unhappy people
2020-01-21 07:25:12 PM missmara1991 ruth i like that tactic alot
2020-01-21 07:25:20 PM sluyterbbeka I love working in activities! So many heart warming experiences.
2020-01-21 07:25:23 PM kavitajc Yes agree time management is difficult at times when all the residents want you attention and you have programs to run
2020-01-21 07:25:31 PM splush2402 I am pretty good at not getting sucked in, but sometimes it happens.
2020-01-21 07:25:39 PM benitad unhappy people
2020-01-21 07:25:41 PM nmcnutt1 ENERGY IS CONTAGIOUS
2020-01-21 07:25:42 PM elenamv I keep trying to stop gossip and drama in our department by talking to the aides one on one.. there's not many of them. But I have one who never tells me when there's an issue. I hear it from residents, other staff and the other aides. She's been threatening to quit for years, I worry about how she affects the morale of everyone else in community life. I know she gets to me some days
2020-01-21 07:25:46 PM cchase post regulations all around that ALL STAFF members should participate in resident activiies
2020-01-21 07:25:46 PM ruthknable I love working in activities. I was a caregive and other jobs before I found what I feel is my calling.
2020-01-21 07:25:48 PM missmara1991 sometimes u feel spread so thin and time management is difficult
2020-01-21 07:25:49 PM nmcnutt1 Good & Bad
2020-01-21 07:25:52 PM pennysloan I dont have time to get sucked into gossip
2020-01-21 07:26:03 PM missmara1991 me either..i cant stand it
2020-01-21 07:26:11 PM tjsheerin when people are unhappy and over worked they are going to talk, and it's not for the best
2020-01-21 07:26:13 PM cchase yes - energy is contagious - positivity
2020-01-21 07:26:15 PM missmara1991 i just avoid it at all costs
2020-01-21 07:26:18 PM kavitajc I love working in this feild its rewarding when you see them smile and welomes you with a hug
2020-01-21 07:26:20 PM valeriepeace Had to make my font larger guys.... I have trouble seeing small print!!
2020-01-21 07:26:21 PM tanya1 Agree
2020-01-21 07:26:22 PM splush2402 yes.
2020-01-21 07:26:23 PM joannet I love doing activities but right now I see alot of decline with the residents so its getting harder to get them to activities but since I have an assistant 3 days out of the week with me, I used that to my advantage and try to do a couple of different programs at once. She does activities for the higher functioning group and I do more smaller or 1on1 with the lower functioning group. It's been working pretty good
2020-01-21 07:26:41 PM pennysloan We have had residents pick up on gossip
2020-01-21 07:26:46 PM tiffanyd negitive energy spreads faster then positive sadly
2020-01-21 07:26:53 PM ruthknable Staff members participating or even encouraging activities is a bone of contention for my boss right now. They think our job is to babysit while they go watch tv.
2020-01-21 07:26:56 PM missmara1991 thats so hard as the residents continue to decline and age in place because the programs will have to change with them :'(
2020-01-21 07:27:01 PM cchase if mgmt had open door policy - those unhappy employees might embrace a private dicussiong with mgmt. to resovle issues
2020-01-21 07:27:04 PM laurenjb My residents start there own gossip!
2020-01-21 07:27:09 PM elenamv We have several staff who gossip with residents, it's very frustrating
2020-01-21 07:27:10 PM emilyac oh our residents are DEFINITELY bigger gossips than the staff- they know everyone's business
2020-01-21 07:27:11 PM missmara1991 hahaha lauren, do they?
2020-01-21 07:27:11 PM spankylee99 cchase does it matter what dates is writen on the Midterm Practicum Pack due wk 8? I have not been consistent with completing it weekly and may be off with some dates.. Hope it just matters that its done and submitted on time
2020-01-21 07:27:12 PM angelalgreathouse that is no fun when the residents get into the gossip. hard to nip it in the butt then
2020-01-21 07:27:14 PM amanda our residents always tell me about the gossip and who says it
2020-01-21 07:27:19 PM benitad This as to start with upper Management
2020-01-21 07:27:20 PM kavitajc Yes we also have residents who gossip with family and talk about staff
2020-01-21 07:27:31 PM jessicabaucom Yes same here Lauren
2020-01-21 07:27:35 PM pennysloan Lauren- that is funny
2020-01-21 07:27:39 PM elenamv Then I have resident council and hear incorrect information residents are being told by housekeepers and cnas
2020-01-21 07:27:45 PM missmara1991 yaa 2 of mine started fighting the other day and we had to break them up. it happens but u have to just handle it then and there
2020-01-21 07:27:45 PM nmcnutt1 Joannet that is something we've seen too. Alot more active residents aren't anymore and the overall morale seems down. Im hoping its just the seasonal affect not anything to major. But alot of turnover and changes have come which I think played a large role on resident morale and energy too
2020-01-21 07:27:48 PM sluyterbbeka I find myself having to check myself daily...its so easy to let someone elses bad mood effect your day.
2020-01-21 07:27:49 PM vgreen left the chat room
2020-01-21 07:27:50 PM ruthknable Amanda, my residents do too, it's hysterical.
2020-01-21 07:27:51 PM kathrynlsvec for those of you that have teams of 3 or more (plus you) what do you do in the mornings? We have Coffee & News at 9:30, but most of my team gets in at 8. They get their coffee carts ready for our different halls, but then there's a lot of dead time.
2020-01-21 07:27:54 PM joannet It really bothers me when I hear a staff member talk to a resident about their personal issue...that irritates me
2020-01-21 07:27:54 PM vgreen enter the chat room
2020-01-21 07:28:12 PM cchase when not posted on time - it's more difficult to keep track - so try to do better with that
2020-01-21 07:28:13 PM valeriepeace If I notice just the littlest bit of negativity, I address it. Bottom line we are there to make the residents quality of life better. If it's my staff I address it. I have actually told an activity assistant that she needed to address her tone and body language because it was so obvious she had an attitude and the residents pick up on that.
2020-01-21 07:28:31 PM missmara1991 they like to do the pledge in the morning
2020-01-21 07:28:35 PM sluyterbbeka good for you Valerie
2020-01-21 07:28:36 PM jessicabaucom Kathryn why not let them visit the residents or do 1:1 in the dead time they have
2020-01-21 07:28:37 PM missmara1991 yaa valerie, u go !!!
2020-01-21 07:28:46 PM tjsheerin once a month we have a meeting called management is listening on all three shifts and it helps but but are still going to talk
2020-01-21 07:28:48 PM laurenjb Mine have decided that because i have a slight chubby belly that i must be pregnant. They had half my staff beliveing them....
2020-01-21 07:28:58 PM kavitajc i have an issue i have one resident who is alert and right now the floors are restricted due to URI. She is able to do independent activities but wants a group one after the next. need help
2020-01-21 07:29:08 PM cchase how about each one of you decide to represent positivity
2020-01-21 07:29:14 PM valeriepeace If its an aid, or someone from another department, I take it up with their supervisor so they can handle it and I can stay in my lane.
2020-01-21 07:29:17 PM czuniga yes
2020-01-21 07:29:19 PM nmcnutt1 I have a team of 3 two activity assistants (I am one) in the mornings we do "Cart Rounds" we do 1:1s and chat with people who are up, run errands, and just say good morning honestly to everyone. We hand deliver papers to nearly every room and talk about what things are going on throughout the day
2020-01-21 07:29:22 PM missmara1991 be positive and kick negativity out
2020-01-21 07:29:22 PM cchase when someone approaches you with negativity

2020-01-21 07:29:40 PM amanda we have tried to have meeting every month for the cna's to come and voice opions and concerns but the ones that always have something to say never show up to the meeting
2020-01-21 07:29:43 PM splush2402 YES! Positivity
2020-01-21 07:29:44 PM czuniga i tell them not my circus not my monkeys

2020-01-21 07:30:05 PM jessicabaucom I have a couple of CNA's ask me what the activities are for the day and I tell them
2020-01-21 07:30:08 PM kathrynlsvec yeah, we just recently revamped the one on one's because the team didn't realize they could literally do one with anyone. they had an old list from the old director who told them they needed to stick with the list.
2020-01-21 07:30:17 PM missmara1991 hahahahaha my residents think im silly, but as long as i can make them smile thats all that matters
2020-01-21 07:30:20 PM vgreen Is anyone elses screen blacking out?
2020-01-21 07:30:22 PM cchase if each of you did that - those negative vibes would lay low
2020-01-21 07:30:24 PM benitad 8-)
2020-01-21 07:30:26 PM pennysloan We have a pastor from Hospice come into the buidling to play music on the piano and sings. Our resident council present will cuss him out, call him names. What to do
2020-01-21 07:30:32 PM emilyac WHAT
2020-01-21 07:30:34 PM kathrynlsvec so we are definitely doing more one on ones. also, does activities handle the cigarettes for your residents? we do, and it is a nightmare.
2020-01-21 07:30:36 PM laurenjb We just started doing anonoymous suggesstions, but i dont feel they are all being brought to our meetings as i know 3 are missing..

2020-01-21 07:31:02 PM sluyterbbeka What REALLY helps lift the mood is going to the morning activity and spending time with the residents as they sing their favorite inspirational songs like You Raise Me Up and Hallelujah. Hard to be in a bad mood when they are so happy...
2020-01-21 07:31:20 PM splush2402 so true sluyterbbeka
2020-01-21 07:31:21 PM dawncalexander our director makes us do one on ones with people that don't even know wer are there. anyone else have this issue

2020-01-21 07:31:37 PM emilyac @pennysloan, I have a resident who is frequently rude to other residents, but I started telling him when he's being inappropriate. He's not even memory care, he's just mean.
