2016-01-26 07:19:59 PM tonic Our Resident Council meets alone to compile comments, suggestions and any complaints. Then all Director's meet with the resident council members to hear all of the issues and talk about a game plan to rectify any issues, suggestions, etc. We then type of the meeting minutes and pass them out to ALL residents during our Town Hall Meeting so everyone is informed. Always keep copy for state.
2016-01-26 07:20:04 PM sgreathouse I can't remember but i'll copy it to my usb and upload tomorrow

2016-01-26 07:20:18 PM kmykalw Tonic, I like that idea.
2016-01-26 07:20:28 PM maribel Department Head and myself ask residents a questionaire we have that are questions that state would ask them inorder to ensure that issues are resolved before state comes in and ensure quality of life.

2016-01-26 07:20:51 PM andreafisher maryc2 i was having the same problem when i did one on one with the residents who couldnt come, i played calming music and also did hand massages with lotion
2016-01-26 07:20:54 PM amber88 oh it was...my director was like ummmm what did they ask you...lol
2016-01-26 07:20:55 PM jaiken I think some of our residents know the game and would give staff one answer and something different or more elaborate to state
2016-01-26 07:20:56 PM jackie26 they always do that
2016-01-26 07:21:00 PM kathyhughes we reviewed them during the meetings
2016-01-26 07:21:02 PM carlosm2015 I was in two Rc meetings one went very quiet since residents are not alert and on another one where the residents are alert and they could not stop talking :-)

2016-01-26 07:22:20 PM melissam btw, my facility calls resident council "neighborhood assocaition" It was a push to get rid of the work resident and make things sound more homey
2016-01-26 07:22:38 PM amandaw nicemelissa
2016-01-26 07:22:43 PM caitlinm Someone else said "Town Council meeting". I like that idea!

2016-01-26 07:22:53 PM lolita47 mellissam that's a good idea for a name
2016-01-26 07:22:56 PM jaiken What council positions do you offer residents to vote on? Just President???

2016-01-26 07:23:12 PM andreafisher the other faciltiy i worked at called it town hall meeting
2016-01-26 07:23:21 PM kathyhughes they did not want structure
2016-01-26 07:23:21 PM kmykalw I like the town council meeting idea. We call ours Healthcare Council and it really just amkes it sound like a meeting in a nursing home...
2016-01-26 07:23:23 PM caitlinm We have President, vice president, and secretary I think
2016-01-26 07:23:26 PM wrendillon I like town hall meeting.
2016-01-26 07:23:27 PM patty4 One time we used a special stick and only the resident holding the stick could speak
2016-01-26 07:23:33 PM sgreathouse jaiken Pres, VP, Sgt of Arms
2016-01-26 07:23:33 PM belindaf my snf choose not to creat positions on the council, i have someone take notes and respond to them

2016-01-26 07:23:41 PM amber88 town hall meeting is what the admin calls the staff meetings
2016-01-26 07:23:46 PM wrendillon I like the stick idea
2016-01-26 07:23:49 PM jaiken Good STICK idea! That's always a problem here
2016-01-26 07:23:57 PM amandaw here too
2016-01-26 07:24:01 PM kmdemers good idea they always want to talk all at once

2016-01-26 07:24:18 PM belindaf each dept head has a presentation
2016-01-26 07:24:18 PM wrendillon I have one resident who monopolizes every conversation about how bad it was at her last home.
2016-01-26 07:24:19 PM kathyhughes just me
2016-01-26 07:24:19 PM andreafisher same!
2016-01-26 07:24:23 PM vincentk It reminds me of the talking stick from new girl ...lol love the idea!
2016-01-26 07:24:23 PM patty4 The residents felt really honored when they were holding the stick because they knew they had everyones attention
2016-01-26 07:24:29 PM wrendillon It is hard to get back to "YOU ARE :HERE NOW"
2016-01-26 07:24:40 PM julies We have a shortage of alert and oriented residents at the meetings
2016-01-26 07:24:44 PM jaiken no staff attendance unless specifically invited; i.e. bad food- we'll invite the ktichen manager
2016-01-26 07:24:45 PM melissam healthcare council sounds like it should be for nurses, not residents. No offense kmyklaw. maybe you could suggest a name change
2016-01-26 07:24:48 PM maribel Department Heads: Administrator, DON or ADON, Maintenace Director, Housekeeping Director, and Dietary Director
2016-01-26 07:24:52 PM sheilabryce Wren, did you get my voicemail?

2016-01-26 07:25:38 PM kmykalw I totally agree melissam! Its way too hospital sounding!
2016-01-26 07:25:38 PM vincentk When someone is monolpolizing the convo, I say, it sounds like you have some things on your mind, how about we meet after in private and talk more in depth about what's going on.
2016-01-26 07:25:49 PM sheilabryce oki, just checking.. you want to talk after this tonight or this weekend

2016-01-26 07:25:57 PM vincentk that way she/he's heard but you can redirect the flow
2016-01-26 07:26:01 PM wrendillon I have been in more than one facility, and I laugh that I can "name" the "types" and see them the next place.
2016-01-26 07:26:04 PM kathyhughes Vicent
2016-01-26 07:26:05 PM wrendillon Not that they are not individuals
2016-01-26 07:26:08 PM wrendillon It just seems that way
2016-01-26 07:26:22 PM carlosm2015 I have seen that even during morning groups
2016-01-26 07:26:26 PM vincentk :)
2016-01-26 07:26:32 PM caitlinm There are always a few residents that need to be angry/unhappy about something!
2016-01-26 07:26:39 PM patty4 for sure
2016-01-26 07:26:41 PM kathyhughes There will be more and more residents who will be wanting to take over
2016-01-26 07:26:45 PM jaiken Do you all take residents shopping? for those who don't, does the AD do their shopping for them?
2016-01-26 07:26:54 PM kathyhughes the Baby Boomers know how to advocate

2016-01-26 07:27:12 PM jaiken mostly, walmart trips primarily
2016-01-26 07:27:14 PM melissam our SW does shopping for those who need things
2016-01-26 07:27:17 PM amber88 do your guys residents run the meetings or do you? my director told me the coucncil members are supppsed to run it but ours do not...we have to coax it along...

2016-01-26 07:27:42 PM maribel I wish the social workers would take some responsibility
2016-01-26 07:27:44 PM jackie26 walmart is easy
2016-01-26 07:27:47 PM lolita47 I find that true for a small few of my residents so I have one on one meetings in my office that really makes them feel good to take that kind of time
2016-01-26 07:27:52 PM kathyhughes I would give them an agenda and encourage them to talk
2016-01-26 07:27:56 PM amandaw I just got certified to drive our vans
2016-01-26 07:28:01 PM ncooper6872 we go on outings 2 times a week
2016-01-26 07:28:02 PM patty4 yes - Kathy - there are clothing vendors and jewelry vendors who will bring items in. Then I used to run a small Country Store with dollar store items.
2016-01-26 07:28:02 PM jaiken Really! My SW would never do a shopping trip for someone
2016-01-26 07:28:04 PM kmykalw In my last facility, we took them shopping but we don't at this facility.
2016-01-26 07:28:04 PM amber88 i didnt know you could invite stores to come
2016-01-26 07:28:08 PM skershaw i try to make an outing weekly...but take different residents on each trip to be fair
2016-01-26 07:28:15 PM sgreathouse As the RC rep do you feel like the departments handle the concerns? I don't at my facility if you go through my last year resident council meeting minutes Call Lights not being answered is a concern at every meeting. What would you do if departments didn't handle the concerns properly and it was the administrator?
2016-01-26 07:28:20 PM amandaw SW always passes to me
2016-01-26 07:28:21 PM kmdemers i do the same

2016-01-26 07:28:53 PM vincentk At first I had a hard time with my resident council, because I felt they were all complaining. I've changed completely how I format the meeting, and agenda, and I actually enjoy it now. If you're interested or need more advice, please email me and I can send you some forms, and advice! vincentkimberly7@gmail.com
2016-01-26 07:28:53 PM vstephens I politly hand it to the social worker
2016-01-26 07:28:53 PM amber88 i like the agenda idea..ill give that a try
2016-01-26 07:28:54 PM skershaw are the vendors very expensive?
2016-01-26 07:29:02 PM belindaf we dont pay them,
2016-01-26 07:29:05 PM maribel since we are not able to go out on trips now we schedule sellers such as Jazzy's Traveling Boutique, Avon Reps, and Jewelry Plus
2016-01-26 07:29:07 PM patty4 On the bus schedule I would list which stores the bus would be going to every Monday afternoon.
2016-01-26 07:29:15 PM belindaf the residnets buy stuff
2016-01-26 07:29:21 PM kathyhughes ShaRonda I would put it in the minutes as the state looks at that
2016-01-26 07:29:30 PM michellep007 our county has volunteers set up to shop for those who can't. I've been lucky to shop for a very sweet lady for several years. We are very good friends. I get so much pleasure visiting her and picking up the groceries she needs.
2016-01-26 07:29:32 PM maribel We also have a gift shop that we stock with items of interest
2016-01-26 07:29:41 PM julies Does anyone have answers about the individuals and what you consider one?
2016-01-26 07:29:42 PM sgreathouse We go shopping to walmart twice a week and we do out to lunch bunch once a month where we go out to eat somewhere

2016-01-26 07:29:57 PM melissam avon reps...good idea! Maybe we could do an avon day and invite a rep to set up a table.
2016-01-26 07:30:05 PM 12789 i am working on a fashion show actually with the resdients that is in April :)
2016-01-26 07:30:07 PM lolita47 I'm in memory care and I find the residents love music and children so I have patnered with my local scout troops so that they can come to the community and earn badges

2016-01-26 07:30:09 PM belindaf mary kay comes in

2016-01-26 07:30:18 PM lynnd Kathy, I'm in a small Green House type facility with only 6 residents and new, very "hands on" administrators. We don't have a council meeting...any ideas how to approach starting one?
2016-01-26 07:30:19 PM patty4 Vendors will sometimes do a raffle at noon to peak interest
2016-01-26 07:30:20 PM lisas We go shopping about once a week...Steinmart, Walmart, Target...etc. Well, not my memory care residents but the other residents in the facility
2016-01-26 07:30:24 PM jackie26 not allow to bring vendors
2016-01-26 07:30:38 PM amber88 i consider individuals to be the residents that does things on their own wheather family is there or not...for instance for our charting we have family visits as a self directed activitiy
2016-01-26 07:30:40 PM patty4 Greeen House Lynn - how cool!
2016-01-26 07:30:42 PM kmykalw We're not allowed to bring vendors either, which is frustrating because being in a skilled unit, its very hard to get residents out
2016-01-26 07:30:43 PM kathyhughes Lynn if you don;t have one don't worry about it
2016-01-26 07:30:45 PM vstephens we have a christmas crAFT OTHER THAN THAT WE HAVE TO GO OUT TO GET ITEMS THEY WANT/NEED

2016-01-26 07:31:36 PM wrendillon I've been wondering if a "catalog" would be a good idea or if it would be a billing/accounting nightmare.

2016-01-26 07:34:54 PM sgreathouse Your facilities must have a lot of alert and independent residents because a prom at my facility would be a disaster.

2016-01-26 07:34:58 PM lolita47 taking this course has allowed me to encourage assisitant to look into becoming certifited also
2016-01-26 07:34:59 PM kmykalw My resdients love music, but most of them are too low functioning to stand or dance, or even stay awake during most of the activity.

2016-01-26 07:35:38 PM maribel We have roulette table run by staff. The residents like it especially for the prizes. We give a fun size chocolate when they win.

2016-01-26 07:36:13 PM lisas yes you do, and you have the experience of doing all that to take to your next facility. Nothing like being treated like you don't matter!!!
2016-01-26 07:36:14 PM andreafisher enter the chat room
2016-01-26 07:36:14 PM patty4 good to know kathy

2016-01-26 07:36:28 PM amber88 oo i like the idea of high school students coming in to dance
2016-01-26 07:36:31 PM julies great
2016-01-26 07:36:38 PM jackie26 volunteers just walk in, but it is too much paper to go through
2016-01-26 07:36:38 PM andreafisher we have a practicum chat?
2016-01-26 07:36:39 PM 12789 kathy when do we know if we pass MEPAP I so we can regiester for MEPAP II
2016-01-26 07:36:42 PM kmdemers i was trying to find some dancers then i remembered my friend is an instructor
2016-01-26 07:36:45 PM kathyhughes but the first thing is to make sure you know exactly what you want them to do with specific job descriptions
2016-01-26 07:37:00 PM vincentk Yes what is the practicum chat? I haven't looked over everythin so I'm sure it's written in there somewhere.

2016-01-26 07:37:05 PM jaiken Does anyone have a "form" for volunteers? I spend hours each week talking to interested people, I've been thinking of putting my schpill (sp?) in a letter form, handing it to them. most of them show interest, 20% actually return and are committed
2016-01-26 07:37:11 PM 12789 i do
2016-01-26 07:37:11 PM kmykalw Unfortunately, activities has very little to do with volunteers, most of it goes through the coordinater and then they just show up.
