2016-02-16 07:41:29 PM brunnert Our facility is having issues with falls on our memory unit. While, I agree keeping lights on for a certain amount of time. I think it is keeping them up and they aren't getting quality of sleep. :(
2016-02-16 07:41:29 PM amandaw I can never get extra food from dietary. I just found out that they actually have a line on their formulary for recreation for snacks and such. I have never gotten anything from them.

2016-02-16 07:44:53 PM kgates The reminisce book on the great depression really strikes up a lot of stories here, in the summer time we sit on the patio and drink punch, water and read about it and have a discussion. One lady siad she thought thats whats going to happen to us if we don't be more careful how we spend our time and money. You can't be safe enough. But they enjoy talking about their experiences during the drepression and can really give some good survial tips.
2016-02-16 07:44:55 PM patty4 kathym - like a zip lock with colors and coloring pages already to go or water color supplies or ??

2016-02-16 07:45:43 PM kmykalw We just use small, clear boxes like you store your shoes in. I don't have one for each resident, but I have three sensory boxes that have different themes to them. 2016-02-16 07:46:27 PM karic They can't do anything for over an hour even residents with high acuity.

2016-02-16 07:47:41 PM kgates Sensory theme boxes were a hit for us here too. We put a bunch of plastic animals in a box and had the residents try to guess what animals they were. We kept score on how many they could guess and whoever guessed the most got to keep the animal of their choice from the box at the end. They talked about it for days.

2016-02-16 07:47:46 PM kathyhughes Look at the postings for chats
2016-02-16 07:47:59 PM kathym patty4 Great idea. I could possibly re-invent them for our Rehab Group. they are here for a short time and don't really want to be involved in anything, but an in room activity of some sort would a good idea for them. If you can think of what might be something to be of interest to this group I would appreciate your thoughts.
2016-02-16 07:48:00 PM amber88 do you mean you dont have enough time to finish the activity?

2016-02-16 07:49:37 PM patty4 We watched the old shows one day and we also had live entertainmetn another day
2016-02-16 07:49:38 PM belindaf jigsaw puzle are nt for mein
2016-02-16 07:49:44 PM kgates Another fun activity is a small pool filled with water. They sell little magnetic fishing poles for kids with the little magnetic fish. The residents did this in the summer and enjoyed catching the fish and the cool water.
2016-02-16 07:49:45 PM kmykalw He's on tv on saturday evening at 7pm..
2016-02-16 07:49:47 PM amber88 for arts and crafts i foudn that it is hard to do the projects in an hour so i actually have planned them to be an hour in a half..sometimes you just have to change your time to do what works best for you
2016-02-16 07:49:49 PM estriffler I have them on vcr, I'm sure they have DVD's online.

2016-02-16 07:51:18 PM kmykalw I only do activities for about 20-30 minutes, unless its a big one like baking or something. Otherwise, I lose my residents attention and they sleep
2016-02-16 07:51:21 PM estriffler left the chat room
2016-02-16 07:51:25 PM kathym patty4 I grew up in a time when my friends were my parents and grandparents. they would always watch Lawrence Welk or Mitch Miller. I learned alot of songs this way. The reisdents at my facility just love the old songs. they will sing along and that is fun for me.
2016-02-16 07:51:29 PM patty4 I tried you-tube comedy clips for our valentines party and it was a bust because the tv set-up wasn't working with laptop that day
2016-02-16 07:51:30 PM kgates Sometimes our residents just want to write a letter home but their arthritis is killing them so we will do a letter writing hour, offer cards and paper along with writing utensils and help them get some letters in the mail. The families love it and always thank us when they come in.
2016-02-16 07:51:31 PM sue123 I have been doing Mind Joggers right before meals, since we have a large crowd and it gets everyone involved.
