2016-09-13 06:20:36 PM dorisb I had been doing resident council with the residents as the activity aid before I started this class. My biggest problem is also getting them to talk. I did take a suggestion from this class and talked to the dietary manager about a food committee. She was excited to hear about it, and she spoke at the last resident council about it. We have a new food vendor starting this week that sounds like they have some great ideas and will come out an do actvities for the residents. In a couple of weeks they are doing soda jerk day.

2016-09-13 06:21:48 PM bestkat4u yes and it gets the staff involed because they have to bring a resident
2016-09-13 06:21:52 PM rbordelon we are doing a party for halloween and we are inviting other facilities residents for our costume party and they will judge our costumes and also well be also voting on the best gumbo
2016-09-13 06:21:52 PM bhenderson8207 I am finding that the staff in my facility dont like to be involved. I am trying to get a staff/resident talent show together but having a hard time with lack of staff help/participation

2016-09-13 06:21:58 PM jessicab would many actual partipate in a spelling bee? i feel like my residents wouldnt want to do that infornt of others?
2016-09-13 06:21:59 PM jenniferezy our staff likes to do fun stuff with the residents instead of just always doing care they get to know them as people not just residents
2016-09-13 06:22:03 PM deb4321 Let the residents be the judges
2016-09-13 06:22:07 PM amandalamireider corrie, are the residents allowed to make food in a cooking activity?
2016-09-13 06:22:11 PM dorisb Where do you get the flame retardent spray? That has been our issue with decorating the door also.
2016-09-13 06:22:13 PM nursesusie Our food committee is made up of resident Don,dietary supervior
2016-09-13 06:22:16 PM reiverkimberly devancaycecole this is a big problem at my facility as well :(
2016-09-13 06:22:17 PM jessicab our residents are the judges for the costume contests
2016-09-13 06:22:19 PM jessicab really fun

2016-09-13 06:23:25 PM devancaycecole I agreee Kim I am worried about the turn out. I work with independent seniors and my participation in activities is usually pretty low
2016-09-13 06:23:38 PM rebeccaa we have a school beside us and the school children walk over dressed up and the residents judge their costumes and hand out candy. Fun
2016-09-13 06:23:44 PM boycejudith0405 I think the main problem with getting staff involved is that they are extremely busy with passing meds, changing depends, getting residents dressed, hair groomed, feed, they need more help
2016-09-13 06:23:46 PM jenniferezy oh my staff loves to get with the residents we just had a dunking booth ,, the residentds were able to dunk their staff
2016-09-13 06:23:48 PM amandalamireider so I guess making cookies for everyone is out as an activity... We always wear gloves and wash our hands when we do a cooking activity, but I can see why some places would be extra careful.

2016-09-13 06:23:55 PM rbordelon oh they love how creative some of our cosetumes are

2016-09-13 06:25:39 PM megansnider family support is great

2016-09-13 06:26:02 PM mcurtis512 we can use our dieatry kitchen being that me and co workers are former dietary aides
2016-09-13 06:26:23 PM dorisb There are things you can buy to treat the real pumpkins with so they don't rot so fast.

2016-09-13 06:28:11 PM nleary22 I was thinking a good way to get family involved would be to send them emails monthly of pictures taken of their family member and the activities that they have done. I dont think that family members who are not there on the regular know what we do and their family member does. I thought that might help in getting them to be more eager to come to family nights and so on. And feeling like they know more of what they are doing when they are not there.
