2020-07-23 07:38:12 PM susandziegenbein yes

2020-07-23 07:38:17 PM gailgilberto My residents feel this is no different then all they have been through in their lives
2020-07-23 07:38:18 PM seanj I am so over COVID too, but I also think that it has caused me to step into roles I never thought I would and pushed me to be more than I imagined.
2020-07-23 07:38:20 PM barbaramclaurin1 I have been surveying them about what they want to see when they return to the center.
2020-07-23 07:38:20 PM michaeld Agree
2020-07-23 07:38:25 PM cchase it's not about rules or sterotypes of schedules - it's about knowing what they wish for
2020-07-23 07:38:25 PM michelled I have some residnets who never participate in group but have been in the hallways programs
2020-07-23 07:38:28 PM maninder thats very true
2020-07-23 07:38:28 PM laceyh22 absolutely. i am about to take over our new dementia unit and will be incorporating more room visits even when covid leaves

2020-07-23 07:38:34 PM 219999 well come to find out you can learn alot from them
2020-07-23 07:38:35 PM katieunderwood My residents truly enjoy good old fashioned conversation and with me alot!

2020-07-23 07:38:42 PM martinezbetty yes knowing their history helps a lot
2020-07-23 07:38:45 PM marisah4 thats true for me it can be hard to know sometimes what they want
2020-07-23 07:38:45 PM tombattleboar I learn too much that times I don't feel that I am working, but rather at my families place disscussing life as we see it.
2020-07-23 07:38:46 PM arshieta83 covid has taking a whole on these residents
2020-07-23 07:38:49 PM brittanyanne24 yes knowing each one of the residents likes
2020-07-23 07:38:50 PM tshaw they want out so bad
2020-07-23 07:38:51 PM 219999 yes true
2020-07-23 07:38:53 PM paula12 i agree
2020-07-23 07:38:56 PM gailgilberto sometimes they do not know what it is that they need
2020-07-23 07:38:57 PM susanpmazziotta Celeste I love the use of the word wish -to wish for!
2020-07-23 07:38:57 PM esmec i base my schedule on what they want to do not just one but all
2020-07-23 07:38:57 PM maninder yup and you can have individual activities for them
2020-07-23 07:39:03 PM marisah4 yes they do want to escape
2020-07-23 07:39:04 PM sierrafannin we have 2 ears and 1 mouth so we can listen more than we speak
2020-07-23 07:39:04 PM balvarez Thats so true. I feel so bad for them.
2020-07-23 07:39:07 PM lbaker1989 I agree, knowing what your residents want is very important!
2020-07-23 07:39:09 PM tshaw no matter how many activites we do
2020-07-23 07:39:12 PM jillh I have residents that love to stop by my office just to talk
2020-07-23 07:39:12 PM atirado Sometimes just simply being "there" is enough!
2020-07-23 07:39:13 PM michaeld Everyone isnt a group person
2020-07-23 07:39:15 PM maninder some of my residents like to sit on the computer or read
2020-07-23 07:39:16 PM lbaker1989 I feel so bad for them :(
2020-07-23 07:39:25 PM gailgilberto I want to escape with them
2020-07-23 07:39:26 PM ehorton me too
2020-07-23 07:39:27 PM gwenbess Something to think about as well, is giving the residents a choice. Let them feel like they can share their persoanl touch when it comes to activities.
2020-07-23 07:39:27 PM scibaamanda Im very open to resident's request and suggestions. However, covid restrictions has limited my ability to honor their request and suggestions. I meet them half way if possible.
2020-07-23 07:39:28 PM sandishell19 some of them that tell me that they are fine and do not need anything, after I sit with them for a while they start opening up and being more interested in doing activities
2020-07-23 07:39:30 PM jessiev1 I make a point to spend at least an hour, every day, away from the computer, pcc, and progres notes, and spend it with my residents. I can I serve them, if I don't know them?
2020-07-23 07:39:31 PM paula12 being there just to listen
2020-07-23 07:39:32 PM nlisdahl It's so hard right now and I feel so bad for the.
2020-07-23 07:39:33 PM tombattleboar yeah I feel just as sad here just chatting about it
2020-07-23 07:39:33 PM michelled I get a lot of visits in my office also
2020-07-23 07:39:33 PM barbaramclaurin1 Sometimes it is difficult relaying that message to the higher ups. They have plans for the seniors, but the seniors are functioning adults and they want to do the things they want to do.
2020-07-23 07:39:35 PM nlisdahl them
2020-07-23 07:39:35 PM tshaw i try to keep them busy but they are use to see their family and leaving the building for visits
2020-07-23 07:39:42 PM 219999 me too cause they get confusse alot
2020-07-23 07:39:46 PM racheldonohoue It's a learning curve and a culture change for all of us.
2020-07-23 07:39:46 PM seanj If you buy journals for your residents and let them "write" (you write while they talk), I think you can find out what they need in a more intimate way. It's been helping with behaviors for some of our residents. One of our crunk residents calls his "The book of Haterz." LOL
2020-07-23 07:39:46 PM diovanneb we get more visits than the nurses do!
2020-07-23 07:39:50 PM lbaker1989 that is very true jessie!

2020-07-23 07:39:59 PM stephberry98 my residents just want to be out

2020-07-23 07:40:25 PM lbaker1989 I sang kareoke with the residents for a good 30 min the other day! they loved it!
2020-07-23 07:40:25 PM nlisdahl I think right now it's so important for all the staff to give them so much encourgement, compassion and love to let them know they are not alone.
2020-07-23 07:40:30 PM sierrafannin trust forms wonderful bonds
2020-07-23 07:40:31 PM tombattleboar I just hate when they give up keep not trying
2020-07-23 07:40:32 PM dewardrd The whole concept of doing nothing makes me crazy. I have to find something they arepassionate about that I can use as a trigger.
2020-07-23 07:40:33 PM michelled and we listen to them
2020-07-23 07:40:35 PM katieunderwood I use Engagement Room Service door hangers for them to sign and fill out for me to pick up and then bring them the items they request back to their room
2020-07-23 07:40:40 PM laceyh22 outside visits are the only group activity we can do
2020-07-23 07:40:42 PM lyndsayt we do what we can
2020-07-23 07:40:48 PM susanpmazziotta sandishell-that is so true it is not uncommon for people to not want to be a bother, but if you take the time to listen they do open up!
2020-07-23 07:40:53 PM laceyh22 but with masks on - in the heat, isn't super ideal
