2020-07-07 07:11:37 PM spassa yeah i liked working ahead
2020-07-07 07:11:49 PM serinamcwha Has anyone done their group of 5 assignment yet?
2020-07-07 07:11:54 PM sierrafannin yes made it a lot easier with LIFE
2020-07-07 07:12:07 PM susanpmazziotta Well we will eventually figure it out I suppose I just need to read everything and talk to the office tomorrow. I agree flossie- it is all blocked off and we cannot prepare ahead of time- my scheduled is very crazy and it would be nice to know.
2020-07-07 07:12:26 PM kayleeserafini For week 1 on the syllabus one of the things listed is that the practicum supervisor form is due. But I don't see that form posted anywhere.
2020-07-07 07:12:42 PM flossie It would be nice to know! I also wish there were some sort of study guides or multiple choice quizes instead of just written assignments
2020-07-07 07:12:43 PM paulapoole This first week starts out with these topics: Theories on Aging, Demographics, Psychosocial & Behavioral Health, and Common Myths About Aging
2020-07-07 07:12:49 PM vgreen There is no PS in this course
2020-07-07 07:13:02 PM flossie I like to study and it seems harder for me to study with reading and written assignments
2020-07-07 07:13:04 PM spassa I thought first week was alot ... forum and other assignments although easy still time consumming
2020-07-07 07:13:06 PM susanpmazziotta I cannot see anything past Assignment 2
2020-07-07 07:13:24 PM serinamcwha They probably haven't posted week 2 assignments yet
2020-07-07 07:13:25 PM spassa neither can I

2020-07-07 07:13:28 PM lynnh we all cant
2020-07-07 07:13:31 PM kayleeserafini okay thanks! The syllabus I have must be outdated
2020-07-07 07:13:33 PM flossie yeah! No one can.
2020-07-07 07:13:35 PM paulapoole there no Practicum in this course that I can tell, but there are Webinars
2020-07-07 07:13:41 PM susandziegenbein I emailed Celeste today to see if they would be posting the assignments early like they did this week and she told me they will only be coming out on Tuesdays from now on.
2020-07-07 07:13:52 PM flossie So glad there is no practicum work
2020-07-07 07:14:09 PM bduncan iits good to see names from the last time
2020-07-07 07:14:10 PM lynnh me too that was the hardest part
2020-07-07 07:14:21 PM susanpmazziotta Well, good night all, we will get through this somehow...
2020-07-07 07:14:25 PM serinamcwha the practicum was the overkill part for me
2020-07-07 07:14:25 PM flossie I didn't realize that I was supposed to be doingn it all along
2020-07-07 07:14:31 PM paulapoole Week 2 "Disease and Longevity"
2020-07-07 07:14:36 PM flossie I was a week or two before the midterm and had to cram it all in
2020-07-07 07:14:38 PM serinamcwha me neither flossie - that was all i needed to complete mepap1
2020-07-07 07:14:41 PM ryann we will get through it!
2020-07-07 07:14:44 PM vgreen Not too happy with 2 page written assisngments. Hope they don't expect college level writing.
2020-07-07 07:15:03 PM flossie I'm not a fan of writing papers
2020-07-07 07:15:08 PM paulapoole The Practicum was confusing I didn't know when what or how...
2020-07-07 07:15:08 PM kayleeserafini Is there a live chat with Celeste?
2020-07-07 07:15:10 PM sierrafannin They are actually not that bad
2020-07-07 07:15:11 PM lynnh its all good make sure it is 2 pages
2020-07-07 07:15:14 PM ryann I was just reading through and you have to do the try the upload assignmentagain
2020-07-07 07:15:31 PM sherryllincoln I think it will be better, I was often confused. Can we still go at our own pace? My course says ownpace...
2020-07-07 07:15:50 PM bduncan mjnn hyu
2020-07-07 07:15:52 PM paulapoole I don't think so sherrllincoln
2020-07-07 07:16:08 PM flossie I was ownpace but it looks like future assignments are locked
2020-07-07 07:16:09 PM spassa I don't think its own pace
2020-07-07 07:16:26 PM flossie It's probably easier for them to grade if we are all on the same schedule ??
2020-07-07 07:16:33 PM susanpmazziotta left the chat room
2020-07-07 07:16:42 PM susandziegenbein I originally signed up for own pace. They said you can do that. However, you can't finish early. Only later.

2020-07-07 07:18:53 PM smagana the only issue with switching the course from MEPAP to NAPT is that the AP-BC certification is not as high as a certification as the APC certifications. I received an email from the NAAP discrediting ActivityDirector.org statement that this new caurse is the equivalent of the MEPAP. I would make sure to discuss this with your department heads to make sure that you are being properly certified for you state requirements.
2020-07-07 07:18:59 PM flossie We still have no word on visitations
2020-07-07 07:19:14 PM jjmiller227 we are doing outside visits

2020-07-07 07:20:20 PM ryann we are not open
2020-07-07 07:20:25 PM jjmiller227 AL - outside 6' apart with masks on, only one family member
2020-07-07 07:20:27 PM vgreen We were going along just fine, most of our residents had COVID, then it slowed down to waiting for the 2nd test, then BAM we got someone new. Back to 30days until the last positive
2020-07-07 07:20:35 PM sierrafannin I work at an Adult Day Center and we are currently closed, Ohio
2020-07-07 07:21:00 PM spassa so sorry to hear that vgreen
2020-07-07 07:21:00 PM flossie we have four facilities. All were covid free until recently now 3 out of 4 have covid.
2020-07-07 07:21:06 PM flossie My building is the only one free.
2020-07-07 07:21:10 PM lynnh we have had no cases and everyone tested negative staff and residents
2020-07-07 07:21:19 PM spassa we all get tested tomorrow by national guard
2020-07-07 07:21:36 PM flossie Do you guys know if there is a midterm and final with this course and if they are open book also?
2020-07-07 07:21:42 PM smagana My facility I work at is covid free in WA. Its crazy how many new cases are popping up though all over the states
2020-07-07 07:21:51 PM bduncan we are testing every two weels
2020-07-07 07:22:20 PM smagana I have not read all of the class material yet to see if it is mentioned if we have midterms or open books
2020-07-07 07:22:25 PM bduncan ]
2020-07-07 07:22:30 PM sarah we are covid free.. and are testing staff weekly
2020-07-07 07:22:36 PM ryann did anyone read the upload assignment what are we suposed to try and upload?
2020-07-07 07:22:38 PM vgreen I really miss group activity, but getting use to having the time to do room visits. I will miss that, because it will suffer when groups begin again, because group attendanees are so much more demanding
2020-07-07 07:23:04 PM flossie ryann The introduce yourself one?
2020-07-07 07:23:24 PM spassa my place i feel i get to read newspaper and serve trays and then take everyones temp
2020-07-07 07:23:55 PM lynnh we can have small group of ten 6 feet apart
2020-07-07 07:24:01 PM spassa I think when you upload your adding your posting or homework
2020-07-07 07:24:23 PM ryann flossie: http://www.activitydirector.org/classroom/mod/assignment/view.php?id=60140
2020-07-07 07:24:32 PM vgreen with the small group of 10...are staff continually bringing in other people to mess that equation up?

2020-07-07 07:25:19 PM lynnh no they know we can only have 10

2020-07-07 07:25:34 PM ryann its under assignments though
2020-07-07 07:26:20 PM vgreen I can hear some of our residents "filing a complaint" for not being in the room for activity, due to lack of total understanding.
2020-07-07 07:26:39 PM paulapoole We're almost Covid free only 1 left. Our staff just got tested again today (every 2 weeks) and the residents. Once we are 14 days free then we will be released as a Covid-HUB and some larger SMALL group things can happen. We won't be opening the doors to the outside for a while yet according to our Administrator.
2020-07-07 07:26:54 PM flossie My residents told me they were bored and there was nothing to do at the last resident council... they're just tired of being crammed in their rooms
2020-07-07 07:27:19 PM jjmiller227 Memory care doesn't understand 6' apart -- I was surprised the masks didn't upset them. It is something to try to get one on them for the outside family visits
2020-07-07 07:27:31 PM ryann I get their frustration, I wouldnt want to be cooped up either
2020-07-07 07:28:02 PM vgreen I am wondering of complaints of being bored will be a citation during these difficutl times. The right to have groups, has been taken from them.
2020-07-07 07:28:37 PM paulapoole My ladies are still passing water!!! makes me mad :@ they should be doing good stuff, yah know. I have all these fabulous things staring me in the face and there's no time because the CNAs aren't passing their resident's water... We are.
2020-07-07 07:28:47 PM ryann what are you guys doing to keep them social without being together
2020-07-07 07:28:54 PM spassa Not sure if you guys have transportation but I also drive residents on our outing and we do country rides ... I wipe down the bus and we set one to a seat and every other seat.... no stopping so i put oldies music on a cd and gave them ice cream and we drove for 1 hour
2020-07-07 07:29:06 PM flossie I am also a CNA but i am the ONLY ONE in the activities department. They are wanting to pull me to the floor..
2020-07-07 07:29:21 PM deneehough left the chat room
2020-07-07 07:29:23 PM bduncan they still get together even if they are told they cant be

2020-07-07 07:30:44 PM vgreen There are so many room activities I found to be successful and the more alert residents express their appreciation for it and know we are trying. I got tired of passing out coffee, my administrator thinks that is an ACTIVITY.

2020-07-07 07:31:11 PM spassa When we was isolated i did higher or lower game from do ways and residents won prizes through hall
2020-07-07 07:31:51 PM ryann passing out coffee is nice. we do snacks on friday happy hour on thrusday
2020-07-07 07:31:57 PM spassa I try for the residents but feel unappreciated by staff and admin

2020-07-07 07:33:54 PM bduncan are you all doing any special carts?
2020-07-07 07:34:02 PM ryann vgreen do you have access to activity connection? they have a daily chronicle you could print and offer with coffee and a little sweet treat in the morning
2020-07-07 07:34:31 PM jjmiller227 Yes we do the carts - happy hour; birthday carts, today strawberry sundaes,etc...
2020-07-07 07:35:02 PM spassa all kinds hydration drinks and theme days and foods
2020-07-07 07:35:12 PM sarah we arent aloowing anyone in the building so our vinding mechines are empty we also send 2 of our elders on vacation every year so we have turned our general store to a rolling store and our elders love it
2020-07-07 07:35:33 PM jjmiller227 We did a daily sheet which had devotion; today is, jokes, interesting stories and various word/number puzzles

2020-07-07 07:35:36 PM vgreen I add games, trivia, music, utube clips, jokes/riddles, I have a lot that meets the needs of the people I visit with the cart.

2020-07-07 07:37:01 PM vgreen I have an assistant, she is new and now out for the month of July.
2020-07-07 07:37:02 PM ryann we are doing virtual visits daily with family memebers
2020-07-07 07:37:18 PM paulapoole that "HELP how do I upload assignments?" - that upload is just practice, but they want you to do it there. otherwise you have to upload forum stuff in the forum and assignments in the correct assignment spot
2020-07-07 07:37:57 PM spassa i do the same ryann.... its me and 1 part time every other day . facetime
2020-07-07 07:38:00 PM paulapoole how big is your facility ryann?
2020-07-07 07:38:19 PM ryann thanks paulapoole
2020-07-07 07:38:57 PM paulapoole you're welcome
2020-07-07 07:39:04 PM ryann 116 beds, 3 units. we are finally up to 3 full time staff I am 1.
2020-07-07 07:39:29 PM vgreen We went from 118 to 86
2020-07-07 07:39:31 PM bduncan one of our units is now a covid unit
2020-07-07 07:40:04 PM paulapoole O Good. Do you rotate residents each day?
2020-07-07 07:40:23 PM ryann I was alone working the floor jan and feb, then finally got staff and they all left becuz of covid, so april was a very rough month

2020-07-07 07:41:01 PM spassa I am same amount and 1 other
2020-07-07 07:41:43 PM ryann we were not crossing units, 1 unit per day
2020-07-07 07:42:24 PM vgreen My advise to anyone that has not experienced COVID in there building, just do the best you can. The stressful parts only last for so long. Don't make yourself sick trying to keep up. People are sick, and those same people want you there when they feel better again.
2020-07-07 07:42:39 PM paulapoole I had the same issue. I now have 4. 2 FT 2 PT. We're a 140 bed facility. The only unit we didn't cross was the Covid.

2020-07-07 07:44:52 PM paulapoole vgreen is so right. Many of my residents told me to go home take care of my family. I told them I am taking care of my family. They'd argue that they didn't want me to get sick.
2020-07-07 07:45:07 PM jjmiller227 It would have been so nice to have someone from activitydirector.org here tonight to clarify and answer our questions!
2020-07-07 07:45:26 PM ryann it has been rough, we revamped our whole programing, and learned a whole lot of stuff. I trudge on even when im failing for them
2020-07-07 07:45:27 PM paulapoole As long as PPE is used and you wash your hands a lot everything is just fine.
2020-07-07 07:45:57 PM ryann jjmiller227 that chat was on friday
2020-07-07 07:46:00 PM paulapoole Here Here ryann. NEVER SURRENDER
2020-07-07 07:46:40 PM jjmiller227 did you get email about it? I never did
2020-07-07 07:46:47 PM ryann we can only do our best and we have to remember even if you dont get everything done we cant discredit what we did do
2020-07-07 07:47:12 PM ryann no i didnt I just tried to post an assignment and couldnt
2020-07-07 07:47:13 PM spassa Thats the hardest part
2020-07-07 07:47:51 PM ryann it so is
2020-07-07 07:48:00 PM vgreen There were times I sat at my desk and just cried, then there were times I proudly went home because I reached so many people that day with bedside activities that would have not joined a group.

2020-07-07 07:49:03 PM ryann I cried the whole month of april every day full on sob
2020-07-07 07:50:38 PM spassa It hurts for we help do lunches dinners even breakfast serve water and such but very few go out of their way to jump aboard to work activities some to help
2020-07-07 07:51:42 PM paulapoole That's so true. It must be everywhere
2020-07-07 07:52:38 PM jjmiller227 Yes there are just a few that will help and encourage activities
2020-07-07 07:52:45 PM spassa I truly believe it is... i try doing things to raise moral and bring groups together and often they do the game get the prize and walk away no thank you or that was fun
2020-07-07 07:52:52 PM vgreen Can I add another observsation I noticed. So many of our residents are recovering and now being seen by rehab due to deconditioning, decreased weight and so much more. We truly do add to their quality of life, physically and emotionally. Sometimes it is hard to see that because so many of them have behaviors....atitudes.
2020-07-07 07:53:44 PM paulapoole The reality of it is this... They KNOW we love them, they just do and they understand are hands are tied sometimes and that we can't get to everyone every day, but the love is there.
2020-07-07 07:54:07 PM bduncan l;i was furloughed about two m onths ago, it was awful
2020-07-07 07:54:18 PM jjmiller227 Agree Paula
2020-07-07 07:54:44 PM spassa behaviors and attitudes are reachable and i learn why and try to help keep itunder controll i did a class called compassionate touch it was nice
2020-07-07 07:54:56 PM vgreen Nursing assistants have a hard job, but many of them are basking in this idea of leaving residents in their beds. That irritates me.

2020-07-08 05:55:39 PM jessiev1 Hello! Not sure if this is going to count. Mary N. that set up this chat time had to cancel till friday at 10pm d/t a family emergency.
2020-07-08 05:56:03 PM paula12 It should count
2020-07-08 05:56:08 PM lwilliams10 The topic is to review the benefits of the information contained in The MDS 3.0 List of Active Diagnosis.

2020-07-08 05:57:16 PM jjmiller227 Hi all! This is Jennifer Miller
2020-07-08 05:57:26 PM paula12 Hi Jennifer
2020-07-08 05:57:39 PM lwilliams10 Maybe send Celeste a message but it should count if we at least have 5 people. We will just have to designate a person to write down everyone here and the date of the chat to post to get credit.
2020-07-08 05:58:37 PM jjmiller227 Is Mary Neal not coming? I can write everyone's name and get to Celeste
2020-07-08 05:58:59 PM jessiev1 Okay. Sounds good to me.
2020-07-08 05:59:03 PM lwilliams10 she had to cancel due to a family emegrgency until Friday at 10pm.
2020-07-08 05:59:54 PM jjmiller227 Ok thanks! Give your full names so I write them down

2020-07-08 06:02:14 PM lwilliams10 I believe you can post the date and names to the Forum Assisgnment #2- Open Discussion Forum in a reply to Celeste's orignal Post
2020-07-08 06:02:20 PM lwilliams10 Welcome and thank you11
2020-07-08 06:02:47 PM jjmiller227 Thanks Lyndsey, will do that
2020-07-08 06:02:57 PM jessiev1 I found a list of MDS 3.0 active diagnosis online, but not sure that it's the correct information taht we need.
2020-07-08 06:03:44 PM jjmiller227 Is everyone in SNF or NF? I'm in AL
2020-07-08 06:04:19 PM jessiev1 I'm SNF, AL, and Rehab
2020-07-08 06:04:31 PM lwilliams10 SNF in Ohio
2020-07-08 06:04:46 PM paula12 I am SNF and Rehab in New Jersey
2020-07-08 06:05:38 PM jessiev1 I'm also in Ohio
2020-07-08 06:05:56 PM smithtammyl Im in NY
2020-07-08 06:06:39 PM jjmiller227 I am in OH
2020-07-08 06:07:26 PM jjmiller227 In Section I - who at your facilities completes this section?
2020-07-08 06:07:49 PM smithtammyl Im in section 1also
2020-07-08 06:08:43 PM jjmiller227 Section I - for Active Diagnoses - who completes this section?
2020-07-08 06:08:51 PM lwilliams10 Nursing Completes this section at my facility. In activiies i complete section F.
2020-07-08 06:09:13 PM paula12 Nursing also completes it at my facility

2020-07-08 06:09:15 PM jessiev1 I'm new to Mds and have heard that all facilities do it differently. I am responsible for F in my facility, and V when there is a CAAS.
2020-07-08 06:09:55 PM lyndsayt Hello all! SO glad there are people on.
2020-07-08 06:10:11 PM jessiev1 Hey!
2020-07-08 06:10:17 PM paula12 hello
2020-07-08 06:10:24 PM jjmiller227 Is it one that is completed first so that if any diagnosis triggers for your section it does?
2020-07-08 06:10:26 PM lwilliams10 I review each section though when it comes to me completing their careplan because certain things listed it is good to have a diagnosis to back up why it is written a certain way for one resident.
2020-07-08 06:10:56 PM lwilliams10 I also do V when I have a CAAs and it triggers in activities.
2020-07-08 06:11:14 PM paula12 I also have access to all sections and review them
2020-07-08 06:12:11 PM lyndsayt Is anyone else having trouble writting about the theroes of againg? I feel like we were given barely any info on them
2020-07-08 06:12:23 PM jessiev1 V is triggering A LOT this month because of the national pandemic and how it is affecting the residents in our faciliy.
2020-07-08 06:12:36 PM lwilliams10 It depends on when everyone completes their sections if mine in activities triggers right off the bat. Sometimes i can complete my section then have to go back and check when others complete theirs because it triggers my section.
2020-07-08 06:12:50 PM paula12 I went online and found additional information
2020-07-08 06:13:13 PM jjmiller227 Thanks Lyndsey - that is what I recall from other areas triggering my sections
2020-07-08 06:13:19 PM lyndsayt Ok. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing something.
2020-07-08 06:13:22 PM jessiev1 Mine is always triggered by social services
2020-07-08 06:14:17 PM jjmiller227 So do you have a system to go back to check if you did your section first?
2020-07-08 06:15:13 PM jessiev1 I have Point Cick Care. The social worker always sends me an email mailwhen she triggers a CAAS on activities, which I greatly appreciate.
2020-07-08 06:15:21 PM smithtammyl my first assigment is communicating with older adults has anyone else done this
2020-07-08 06:15:48 PM jjmiller227 That is a good Jessie, glad you get that cooperation
2020-07-08 06:15:48 PM paula12 We also have PCC at our facility
2020-07-08 06:16:11 PM lwilliams10 All sections usually show up red, white or yellow until completed then it changes to green. If it doesnt trigger my section right off the bat i check back the day the actual assessment is due or my MDS Nurse will email me and let me know i have a CAA to complete.
2020-07-08 06:16:22 PM lwilliams10 I have PCC also.
2020-07-08 06:17:03 PM paula12 I do an assessmnet on every resident that comes into our facility even the rehab residents

2020-07-08 06:17:35 PM jjmiller227 Do you find some diagnoses more challenging from an activities point of view?
2020-07-08 06:17:51 PM diovanneb Hi everyone!
2020-07-08 06:17:57 PM jessiev1 I do too. I thought the state required that?
