2014-08-26 06:16:33 PM tracyl so instead of the assessment just do a progress note and update the care plan?
2014-08-26 06:16:41 PM lorig7 yes
2014-08-26 06:16:45 PM jiannaggi Thats what I do
2014-08-26 06:16:45 PM yrobles at that point you would need to careplan any impairments that impact their ability to participate, YES?
2014-08-26 06:16:47 PM kathyhughes and I might ask you that I would like to learn knitting and you would note that
2014-08-26 06:17:01 PM kathyhughes right Tracy
2014-08-26 06:17:01 PM nacresia35 itis alot of paperwork but thats what the state wants to see documentation!!!

2014-08-26 06:17:11 PM nijah so we need to find a way to alter the activity
2014-08-26 06:17:23 PM kathyhughes the care plan should reflect adaptations that the resident needs
2014-08-26 06:17:29 PM kathyhughes as an intervention
2014-08-26 06:17:30 PM valerieh I use a computer too

2014-08-26 06:17:49 PM janicewatts like a book holder
2014-08-26 06:17:53 PM jiannaggi Our are computer
2014-08-26 06:17:54 PM raypinner ALL of our documentation is on the computoer
2014-08-26 06:17:58 PM debbielee I think everything has to be documented for the state
2014-08-26 06:17:59 PM lorig7 yes, or I got a man to not act out by taking him on the patio as he ask. W e were all amazed and now that is his care plan, part of it
2014-08-26 06:18:02 PM kathyhughes right or a Kindle
2014-08-26 06:18:14 PM sheminger we just started on computer we used to right it all out everytime
2014-08-26 06:18:17 PM nijah we are in the process of going completely paperless
2014-08-26 06:18:26 PM janicewatts that would work good
2014-08-26 06:18:28 PM tracyl is there a program for the care plans on the computer?
2014-08-26 06:18:32 PM nacresia35 the nuse staff called state in our building
2014-08-26 06:18:36 PM valerieh Do you pick from a library
2014-08-26 06:18:38 PM debbielee I have found that paperless is not so paperless
2014-08-26 06:18:41 PM nakeshab enter the chat room
2014-08-26 06:18:55 PM nijah that is so true
2014-08-26 06:19:00 PM tamialfonso omg, guess you cant read to catch up? just have to jump in!
2014-08-26 06:19:01 PM nakeshab Hello Kathy and classmates
2014-08-26 06:19:03 PM susan30 your facility would have to implement it
2014-08-26 06:19:07 PM yrobles wow nacresia.
2014-08-26 06:19:07 PM lauraw 'resident expresses the desire to learn knitting, the resident is hearing impaired and also suffers from mild arthitis, therefore our goal is to have the resident join knitting club and perform knitting with verbal direction from staff, and physical assistance from staff to the best of her ability" is that an appropriate care plan statement for your knitting needs kathy?
2014-08-26 06:19:15 PM lorig7 We have Matrix and that is MDS and care plan, still we print out care plan
2014-08-26 06:19:15 PM debbielee yeah just jump in
2014-08-26 06:19:27 PM nakeshab what is the topic of the discussion
2014-08-26 06:19:29 PM nacresia35 yep understaff
2014-08-26 06:19:56 PM kathyhughes Yes Laura,,,what adaptations are you going to use for my knitting?
2014-08-26 06:20:03 PM carlasummar every kind of home is always under staffed
2014-08-26 06:20:04 PM debbielee if state or administrator wants documentation you have to print and hand out to them anyway
2014-08-26 06:20:12 PM tracyl Oh okay i get it now, how would i get the MDS3.0 on a Kindle?
2014-08-26 06:20:22 PM lauraw enlarged knitting tools, an extra wide yarn
2014-08-26 06:20:25 PM lauraw ?
2014-08-26 06:20:33 PM kathyhughes right
2014-08-26 06:20:42 PM lauraw okay, i got y
2014-08-26 06:20:44 PM lauraw *ya
2014-08-26 06:20:45 PM kathyhughes the MDS is not on a Kindle
2014-08-26 06:20:56 PM khughes with the facility that I have I try to keep the same things going every month how do I start a new activity that most of my women residents are interested in?
2014-08-26 06:21:02 PM janicewatts remember hippa
2014-08-26 06:21:03 PM kathyhughes the Kindle was for someone who needs help reading
2014-08-26 06:21:14 PM tracyl oh okay i didn't think it would be anyways
2014-08-26 06:21:31 PM kathyhughes ask the residents which activity they want
2014-08-26 06:21:31 PM yrobles I have started try it classes. everyone month we try someting new. if its a hit i add the activity
2014-08-26 06:21:36 PM lorig7 The Matrix program has its own password system
2014-08-26 06:21:37 PM susan30 make them part of a new activity to try
2014-08-26 06:21:45 PM yrobles i also ask the residents iftheir is something not offered that they would like to have
2014-08-26 06:21:46 PM tracyl when you do an assessment that you would eventually enter into the MDS do you still have to keep the paper copy?
2014-08-26 06:21:50 PM nacresia35 we did school day adding subtracting for the wons that perticipated won pizza
2014-08-26 06:21:51 PM kathyhughes Have then plan it
2014-08-26 06:21:53 PM yrobles i asked in residnt council meeting
2014-08-26 06:21:58 PM debbielee I change our calendar every month. only certain days do I run the same activity
2014-08-26 06:22:10 PM khughes I all ready know and it is knitting
2014-08-26 06:22:25 PM khughes but I do not know how to
2014-08-26 06:22:29 PM carlasummar left the chat room
2014-08-26 06:22:29 PM carlasummar enter the chat room
2014-08-26 06:22:30 PM kathyhughes My calendar changed every month
2014-08-26 06:22:31 PM sheminger we just print off the admission paper work to put in there chart then after that we just write see point click for notes
2014-08-26 06:22:42 PM lorig7 the state met with the residents on the first day, used to wait till last day. They may be gone by end of day tomorrow
2014-08-26 06:22:49 PM tracyl if you have a resident that can knit have them run the program
2014-08-26 06:22:58 PM khughes if I was to change mine it would confuse them
2014-08-26 06:23:01 PM kathyhughes Ask around for a volunteer who knits
2014-08-26 06:23:04 PM nakeshab i always run the same activities but then add different outings according to the residents request
2014-08-26 06:23:06 PM jiannaggi I have some things that stay on the calendar regularly, but then I use weekly themes to plan my other activities
2014-08-26 06:23:10 PM valerieh I change mine every month
2014-08-26 06:23:10 PM nacresia35 good idea they will show u
2014-08-26 06:23:10 PM tamialfonso res might be able to show you kintting
2014-08-26 06:23:25 PM susan30 thats not unusual they like to talk to the residents first
2014-08-26 06:23:30 PM jiannaggi I try to keep the same times though becasue my residents like routine
2014-08-26 06:23:32 PM kathyhughes Right Tami....I would bet that the residents could teach you
2014-08-26 06:23:35 PM debbielee thats what im trying to do get a volunteer to kind of manage a crocheting group
2014-08-26 06:23:39 PM jean1 My calendar changes every month, too. The residents have gotten very excited to see new games, outings, etc.
2014-08-26 06:23:44 PM janicewatts ask another residents that know to help
2014-08-26 06:23:46 PM khughes K ill give it a shot
2014-08-26 06:23:54 PM lorig7 My high functioning floor changes on a daily basis throughout the month, though Thurs is Bingo
2014-08-26 06:23:55 PM jean1 I don't mess with Bingo or church services though :)
2014-08-26 06:24:00 PM tamialfonso same with quilting
2014-08-26 06:24:01 PM nakeshab If an activity doesnt work i then fade it off the calender and add something new
2014-08-26 06:24:10 PM meganisabel What do you use for prizes for bingo?
2014-08-26 06:24:12 PM yrobles i also plan themedparties. september is hispanic heritage month. PArtnered with the kitchen for a hispanic themed meal and scheduled salsa dancers t peform
2014-08-26 06:24:16 PM lisac do you think there is some value to also keeping some things structured rather than changing them monthly?
2014-08-26 06:24:32 PM valerieh yes they get mad if you mess with bingo
2014-08-26 06:24:32 PM debbielee On Wednesday's we have a stringband and bingo. that never changes
2014-08-26 06:24:35 PM raypinner My resident's enjoy fruit bingo, using fresh fruit for prizes
2014-08-26 06:24:36 PM yrobles my residents ecpect certain activite on certain dys
2014-08-26 06:24:42 PM nacresia35 cucakes chips soda candy
2014-08-26 06:24:45 PM lorig7 My dementia floor has a weekly schedule with events interrupting the weekly routine
2014-08-26 06:24:55 PM lauraw i think structure is great, but i find great restraint in that....the families want to see a variety of activities...this is my struggle looking at a skilled calendar
2014-08-26 06:24:57 PM jiannaggi We use tickets as bingo prizes and then have a shopping cart once a week that they can buy from
2014-08-26 06:24:59 PM nakeshab how do you respond to a resident that says that church is not an activity
2014-08-26 06:25:01 PM jean1 We have bananas, snack packs of crackers, and candy as prizes
2014-08-26 06:25:01 PM debbielee I think some things should stay the same and change other acitivies.
2014-08-26 06:25:06 PM kathyhughes actually if you think about it...the calendar is already structured according to time so the consistancy would be the time you have the activity
2014-08-26 06:25:07 PM nacresia35 whats stringband and bingo
2014-08-26 06:25:13 PM tracyl I have a lot of programs that are the same each month, however there is a lot of different programs as well
2014-08-26 06:25:22 PM debbielee I have found that some residents enjoy change.
2014-08-26 06:25:33 PM carlasummar an activity is anything that you get out of bed for
2014-08-26 06:25:36 PM lauraw kathy, good point!
2014-08-26 06:25:38 PM lorig7 yes Tracyl, exactly
2014-08-26 06:25:52 PM raypinner As long as you don't change the things that resident likes
2014-08-26 06:25:55 PM tamialfonso we used bible bingo once when pastor couldnt make it
2014-08-26 06:25:55 PM debbielee string band is a group from the community that come in and play guitars every Wed. Bingo is bingo
2014-08-26 06:26:17 PM kathyhughes Change in the activities keeps residents engaged and the anticipation of something new is helpful
2014-08-26 06:26:18 PM yrobles we have music groups who come weekly. the residents consider the musicians their friends. its sweet
2014-08-26 06:26:27 PM carlasummar how do you do BIBLE BINGO?
2014-08-26 06:26:30 PM janicewatts color bingo is fun
2014-08-26 06:26:31 PM susan30 it's just challenging to get everyone to agree on interests
2014-08-26 06:26:40 PM yrobles my goal is smthing new twice a month. i want to ease the change. i am new
2014-08-26 06:26:54 PM tamialfonso if you fade something out, bring it back once in a while
2014-08-26 06:27:06 PM kathyhughes I would try an Activities Committee
2014-08-26 06:27:07 PM debbielee I'm working on opening a bingo store because our residents play for money. and I want to give them a way to spend what they won.
2014-08-26 06:27:12 PM janicewatts good idea
2014-08-26 06:27:12 PM kathyhughes for your alert residents
2014-08-26 06:27:19 PM yrobles Thats a great idea, Kathy!
2014-08-26 06:27:21 PM yrobles THank you.
2014-08-26 06:27:23 PM jean1 Played "Flickin Chicken" with the residents this week (made up our own rules) and it was the talk of the facility before, during, and after. New activities can really liven up a place.
2014-08-26 06:27:26 PM valerieh I am always asking them what they would like to do
2014-08-26 06:27:26 PM tamialfonso ran by the residents?
2014-08-26 06:27:31 PM nijah i like that idea
2014-08-26 06:27:32 PM nakeshab i am too yrobles and so far its working
2014-08-26 06:27:33 PM yrobles I try and dicuss it in resident cuncil
2014-08-26 06:27:33 PM lisac how about community newletters - anyone have any luck with that?
2014-08-26 06:27:34 PM carlasummar BY CHANGING OUT THE ACTIVITY NO ONE GET TIRED OF THE SAME THING
2014-08-26 06:27:36 PM lorig7 on dementia floor the same is general and it changes up weekly because there are different kinds of exercise or whatever, crafts that I can plop in there
2014-08-26 06:27:45 PM jiannaggi We cover activities during resident coucil and take suggestions on things the residents want added
2014-08-26 06:27:57 PM yrobles i do news letters. the residents and family love them. they come out monthly, not weekly thought
2014-08-26 06:28:04 PM meganisabel we only have 30 mins to do an activty must of the time. what are some activities you can do within 30 mins?
2014-08-26 06:28:08 PM janicewatts that a good idea
2014-08-26 06:28:12 PM valerieh What is Flickin Chicken?
2014-08-26 06:28:14 PM debbielee We have a movie day and they pick what movie they want to watch.
2014-08-26 06:28:22 PM nakeshab when things are discussed in resident council they still dont participate
2014-08-26 06:28:24 PM raypinner Committee would be hard at my facility because they all will cooperate with me but that's not the way it is when they deal with each other, I have a rowdy bunch
2014-08-26 06:28:27 PM debbielee Flickin chicken?
2014-08-26 06:28:29 PM tracyl I like to keep a lot of the same programs like morning exersice because most of our residents look forward to it, or the bingo, but i also try to incorporate different things to see what new stuff they like as well, sometimes we get residents to programs because it is something new
2014-08-26 06:28:55 PM tamialfonso flickin chickin?
2014-08-26 06:28:57 PM kathyhughes LOL Ray
2014-08-26 06:28:58 PM jean1 Flickin Chicken is a tossing game. The player tosses out a mat, and then they toss rubber chickens at the mat, wherever it landed.
2014-08-26 06:28:59 PM lauraw 30 min activities...crazy kickball, putt putt golf, ballon volleyball, trivia, story time, courtyard chats, hand massages, spotlight series (pick a resident and celebrate their life history)
2014-08-26 06:28:59 PM nakeshab a facility newsletter is something that will be new to our facility starting next month
2014-08-26 06:29:05 PM lorig7 30 min yoga, trivia, bean bag toss, ribbon dance (15 of that is enough),
2014-08-26 06:29:12 PM lauraw flower arranging
2014-08-26 06:29:22 PM raypinner How do you build successful resident council meetings?
2014-08-26 06:29:28 PM tamialfonso sounds interesting
2014-08-26 06:29:29 PM nijah yes we keep alot of the same activities like church services due to the volunteers schedule
2014-08-26 06:29:36 PM meganisabel Thanks for the ideas!
2014-08-26 06:29:39 PM lorig7 30 min story time, good, Chicken soup for the soul stories
2014-08-26 06:29:44 PM debbielee I do a newsleter every month and send with the calendar of events
2014-08-26 06:29:46 PM susan30 go with an agenda
2014-08-26 06:30:09 PM yrobles yes, agenda for res. council is important
2014-08-26 06:30:10 PM tamialfonso love balloon volley ball
2014-08-26 06:30:11 PM carlasummar really i resident council meetint today and only had 10 to come i would like move
2014-08-26 06:30:12 PM kathyhughes a sucessful resident council meeting depends on the residents and getting their input, having an agenda and sticking to it
2014-08-26 06:30:20 PM lauraw lorig7 chicken soup for the soul story time is aweome, offer time for reflection! great activity
2014-08-26 06:30:22 PM lorig7 we only do a newletter 4 times a year, thank goodness
2014-08-26 06:30:23 PM kathyhughes and having an educational component
2014-08-26 06:30:26 PM valerieh What do you put in your news letters
2014-08-26 06:30:36 PM kathyhughes and have the residents prepared
2014-08-26 06:30:37 PM susan30 chicken soup for the soul is great! have you ever tried you be the judge/
2014-08-26 06:30:47 PM sheminger we have president, vice presidents,
2014-08-26 06:30:53 PM lauraw if you have resident council, you combine it with food committee and invite the kitchen staff too
2014-08-26 06:31:09 PM nacresia35 for my news letter i send pictures of what i did for the month
2014-08-26 06:31:09 PM yrobles yes, we do that.
2014-08-26 06:31:22 PM kathyhughes I kept them seperate as the food discussion would take over
2014-08-26 06:31:30 PM jiannaggi Food committee is after RC in my facility
2014-08-26 06:31:31 PM nakeshab how do you get the residents to attend the activities after it is something that they have asked for
2014-08-26 06:31:32 PM debbielee any special events, family council meeting dates, sometime pictures of special events, birthdays for the month and any celebrations
2014-08-26 06:31:37 PM lorig7 You be the judge, long time ago
2014-08-26 06:31:48 PM lauraw good idea kathy, i only combined them in the dementia setting because the residents could always remember complaints
2014-08-26 06:31:51 PM sheminger we have baratrics so we are normally never allowed to give them food
2014-08-26 06:31:55 PM vickis so many great ideas, im soaking everything in like a sponge
2014-08-26 06:31:55 PM kathyhughes You can have seperate committee meetings
2014-08-26 06:31:57 PM jean1 We have a separate food council meeting, but we do ask the residents if they have any suggestions for dietary.
2014-08-26 06:32:13 PM kathyhughes that can be an activity
2014-08-26 06:32:15 PM lorig7 We have a seperate Menu Committee and the head of kitchen does a food demo as well
2014-08-26 06:32:25 PM kathyhughes just like an Activities Committee
2014-08-26 06:32:26 PM meganisabel what type of food demo?
2014-08-26 06:32:33 PM carlasummar we do a meal of the month residents choies
2014-08-26 06:32:34 PM lauraw it could be on the calendar as "Kitchen Comments:
