2013-10-30 06:23:05 PM pawood we have a music room, sensory room and a place for snacks so we have several places to redirect them
2013-10-30 06:23:07 PM carolynlnig It is useful in taking them out of negative thoughts or actions for the moment and until they find something good
2013-10-30 06:23:26 PM cchase never approach an agitated person - two staff members on one
2013-10-30 06:23:33 PM caronda Will you agree that you can ometimes spend hours trying to redirect
2013-10-30 06:23:34 PM scalabrese gotta be on your toes ready for anything, quick thinking and flexible lol
2013-10-30 06:23:36 PM cchase they feel like you are ganging up on them

2013-10-30 06:23:56 PM meg left the chat room
2013-10-30 06:24:11 PM cchase if you are spending extra time you need to back off and send someone else in to redirect
2013-10-30 06:24:19 PM dtracie11 thats why we only have 1 person try to redirect insted of 2-3
2013-10-30 06:24:20 PM carolynlnig Say their name and ask them if they will come help you with a project or askthem where they got their haircut? or something to change their thoughts
2013-10-30 06:24:27 PM cchase another person may have better success
2013-10-30 06:24:38 PM cchase do not always ask
2013-10-30 06:24:45 PM cchase they will say NO
2013-10-30 06:24:46 PM caronda ok... but it seems that no one else wants to deal with it..
2013-10-30 06:25:04 PM scalabrese quizzing type questions dont always work

2013-10-30 06:26:54 PM cchase but in the early stage do give them a choice of two things
2013-10-30 06:26:55 PM dtracie11 which can cause more behavior and aggression

2013-10-30 06:37:39 PM carolynlnig No just help and stay in her or his frame of mind. That is their reality and your help may lead to better trust
2013-10-30 06:37:39 PM caronda ok now I see my mistake
2013-10-30 06:37:49 PM cchase right
2013-10-30 06:37:52 PM dtracie11 go look for it, i have pretended to report it. that helped once
2013-10-30 06:38:06 PM cchase nice work
2013-10-30 06:38:15 PM pawood we always have to report and file an incident report
2013-10-30 06:38:16 PM cchase you help them feel validated
2013-10-30 06:38:21 PM cchase by reporting it
2013-10-30 06:38:25 PM cchase nice
2013-10-30 06:38:35 PM kelsey827 the bad thing is, sometimes something can actually be missing but bc we now about their disease we might dismiss it

2013-10-30 06:38:37 PM carolynlnig Go look for it and change conversation to happy subject to redirect, if possibel'
2013-10-30 06:38:41 PM kelsey827 know
2013-10-30 06:38:46 PM cchase I have filled out the "report" with them
2013-10-30 06:38:52 PM caronda doesn't helping them look for it give them some type of validation
2013-10-30 06:39:04 PM kelsey827 def validate
2013-10-30 06:39:05 PM dtracie11 thats true, we did that once and it turned up!
2013-10-30 06:39:07 PM cchase yes
2013-10-30 06:39:21 PM kelsey827 imagine how u felt if u were SURE ur purse was stolen and someone said, no it wasnt.. and you are SURE it was!
2013-10-30 06:39:21 PM cchase while your looking
2013-10-30 06:39:36 PM cchase you say - I'm getting really hungry
2013-10-30 06:39:37 PM dtracie11 i would have agression! lol
2013-10-30 06:39:38 PM pawood the state would look for the report if they came in and heard her stating about her purse
2013-10-30 06:39:53 PM cchase let's get something to eat
2013-10-30 06:39:59 PM kelsey827 so care plan that she makes those statements even if there is no purse???? pawood??
2013-10-30 06:40:25 PM carolynlnig In our day center we have people who usually bring their purse and on the days they do not, we have problems becuase they cannot be redirected and keep looking and asking staff where it is
2013-10-30 06:40:38 PM dtracie11 oh thats rough
2013-10-30 06:40:56 PM meg oh no!
2013-10-30 06:41:08 PM cchase keep extra purses on hand
2013-10-30 06:41:12 PM cchase we have done that
2013-10-30 06:41:19 PM scalabrese we do
2013-10-30 06:41:25 PM dtracie11 oh good idea!

2013-10-30 06:41:37 PM dtracie11 yes you will! and quickly
2013-10-30 06:41:47 PM cchase you have to learn to think differently
2013-10-30 06:41:53 PM kelsey827 another activity... give a purse with items in it to rummage through
2013-10-30 06:41:56 PM meg this chat is an eye opener for me
2013-10-30 06:41:56 PM cchase you cannot reason with them
2013-10-30 06:42:06 PM caronda Because they think differently???
2013-10-30 06:42:10 PM kelsey827 fake money.. a wallet... some fake change.. tissues
2013-10-30 06:42:10 PM cchase yes that is a good activity
2013-10-30 06:42:11 PM dtracie11 nope, you willl always loose!
2013-10-30 06:42:17 PM carolynlnig Frequently you have to remember their reality is just that and you may not change it in some
2013-10-30 06:42:26 PM kelsey827 absolutely then instead of just one person being aggitated, u both are
2013-10-30 06:42:28 PM cchase right but they cannot reason
2013-10-30 06:42:48 PM cchase or even follow logic
2013-10-30 06:43:04 PM scalabrese patience is key
2013-10-30 06:43:17 PM cchase or keep up with sequential thinking or sequential tasks
2013-10-30 06:43:24 PM cchase yes patience
2013-10-30 06:43:30 PM dtracie11 hard but true

2013-10-30 06:43:46 PM joannem My father used to swear that he was looking out the window at some man....my mom would always agree with him...Of course, there was no one out there...

2013-10-30 06:43:59 PM cchase you will loose
2013-10-30 06:44:03 PM caronda Should you always have something on hand for them to craft if their mind wonders
2013-10-30 06:44:03 PM carolynlnig Asking others if they have seen the purse also valideates them and makes them know you are truly concerned
2013-10-30 06:44:06 PM dtracie11 hahahah yep
2013-10-30 06:44:06 PM meg good to know!

2013-10-30 06:44:21 PM kelsey827 i guess speech was working with our one patient with alz and the patients nose was running so they gave her a tissue during an eval and before she got the tissue to her nose she forgot what she was doing
2013-10-30 06:44:37 PM cchase :)4
2013-10-30 06:44:38 PM meg sad

2013-10-30 06:46:20 PM kelsey827 she gets angry when they try to help her eat...and i think she just retains a lot of dignity... she has a lot of trouble feeding herself but she will do it if u leave her alone.... she is declinging quickly though... shes only been here 3-4 weeks and started sleeping through her meals
2013-10-30 06:46:42 PM caronda I tell her that her house is down the hall to the right.. (that is where her room is)
