2019-10-15 06:12:35 PM lamearaj 3RD SHIFT IS INVOLVED WITH US BECAUSE WE HAVE SIGN UP SHEETS THRU OUT THE FACILITY AND THEN WE HOST THE WINNER AT THE HALLOWEEN PARTY AND EVERYONE SHOWS UP FOR THEIR PARTNER, THE RESIDENT,
2019-10-15 06:13:41 PM jamiew my supervisor talked to the DON and admin and they suggested her rearranging the work schedule which then leaves activities on day shift short. its a lose lose in my eyes. Its very difficult to run an activity with screaming and standing residents hahaha
2019-10-15 06:13:43 PM sryan We always have stuff for all shifts. mamangers take turns coming for 3rd shift
2019-10-15 06:13:48 PM jamiew we get our exercise in atleast!
2019-10-15 06:13:49 PM jcox I have some nurses who dump residents on me because they just dont want to deal with them. I try and redirect and if that does not work and my other residents are leaving the activity because of it. I take them straight to the DON
2019-10-15 06:14:27 PM jamiew our DON isnt there at night when the behaviors happen. its usually around 6:30pm
2019-10-15 06:14:33 PM aehutchins I have to do the same thing jcox
2019-10-15 06:14:35 PM kathyhughes I would again,,,keep a time study of residents who are inappropriate for the activities
2019-10-15 06:14:37 PM tamracreighton left the chat room
2019-10-15 06:14:37 PM jamiew i'm going to suggest a log of times
2019-10-15 06:14:49 PM jamiew yes thats what im going to do
2019-10-15 06:15:03 PM lamearaj WE COMMUNICATE WITH FLYERS USE BRIGHT PAPERS AT THE TIME CLOCK ADN NEAR BATHROOMS AND ELEVATORS, DOOR WAYS... THAT WAY THE WHOLE TEAM IS INVOLVED. WHEN YOUR NOT ABLE TO SEE EVERYONE, THAT WILL KEEP THE INVOLVED TEAM MEMBERS ON ONE ACCORD.
2019-10-15 06:15:11 PM kathyhughes You have to look at the regulations and show them what you are to do for activities....that is why we cover the regulations
2019-10-15 06:15:19 PM badalyanlilit Hi everyone, Today we were planning our Halloween spectacle, it was very interesting
2019-10-15 06:15:33 PM hollybv18 enter the chat room
2019-10-15 06:15:34 PM kathyhughes It is important for them to realize that a deficiency in activities is a deficiency for nursing
2019-10-15 06:15:45 PM regina1 agreed
2019-10-15 06:15:51 PM crdsteele agreed!

2019-10-15 06:15:58 PM bnash how can we always stay uodated on new regs is there a specific website or how do we go about it
2019-10-15 06:16:16 PM kathyhughes Right now you have the current regulations....in the class....
2019-10-15 06:16:20 PM jamiew and i know the DOH will be in to do an inspection because we just switched to a new company so i was told they will be in
2019-10-15 06:16:28 PM sryan somettimes there is only so much we can do as activities. sometimes i think the resiednt is beyond a point of redirecton
2019-10-15 06:16:36 PM kathyhughes You can search them out at cms.gov
2019-10-15 06:16:50 PM jamiew these two behaviors are way beyond redirection
2019-10-15 06:16:52 PM bnash thanks
2019-10-15 06:16:59 PM kathyhughes but you also need to think about your state regulations and the behavioral health regulations
2019-10-15 06:17:18 PM bethaldrich5 Our trunk or treat theme this year is Old McDonald had a farm. The residents and staff are dressing up as farmers or animals. But we are also bring a goat, a sheep, a bunny, and a chicken! We are all so excited!
2019-10-15 06:17:19 PM kathyhughes then you need to document Jamie

2019-10-15 06:17:58 PM buddyrmorvent enter the chat room
2019-10-15 06:18:13 PM jamiew i feel like its not fair to the behavior residnt because they need attention too and we can't give them the amount they need. im definitly going to document document document
2019-10-15 06:18:23 PM regina1 yes documentation is imparative
2019-10-15 06:18:26 PM kathyhughes So many of you are doing great things for Halloween! I bet that the residents will enjoy themselves

2019-10-15 06:19:24 PM jcox they say that is something they always enjoyed doing each year was passing out candy
2019-10-15 06:19:31 PM jamiew i dont know who enjoys the candy more... the residents or the kids! the residents eat it as they put it in baggies haha
2019-10-15 06:19:41 PM bethaldrich5 It is so fun! We live in a prety small community so a lot of the residents have great grandkids at the schools. They love seeing them for trick or treat.

2019-10-15 06:24:06 PM jamiew angelalgreathouse We have a good amount of staff but after 4:30 its 1 activity person for a 50 bed unit - usually we have 12 residents in the activity room. We are waiting for our 2nd person to start for nights but nursing just wont help until we get this other person hired
2019-10-15 06:24:16 PM bnash i asked for donations for costumes and people are slacking but im sure i will wing it

2019-10-15 06:26:06 PM jamiew angelalgreathouse its frustrating and i understand they are busy but these 2 people can be just mean and violent to staff! im sure it will calm down once the 2nd night shift person starts but jeez, we can only do so much with what we have
2019-10-15 06:26:08 PM sryan holly... u could probally use a transport company like call a ride or tarps would be in my area
2019-10-15 06:26:16 PM jamiew angelalgreathouse we have a bus

2019-10-15 06:46:33 PM hollybv18 our building is behind and have yet to decide ....yikes!
2019-10-15 06:46:36 PM kathyhughes We would have a dessert that families could come to in the afternoon. They could have dessert with their loved ones and anyone could attend
2019-10-15 06:47:13 PM angelalgreathouse we set up the families and resident up in special areas so thst they can have a private meal with their loved one. we go all out with decoratons
2019-10-15 06:47:43 PM bethaldrich5 I like that idea too. Serving the thanksgiving meal for all residents and their families gets a tad chaotic every year no matter how much we prepare.
2019-10-15 06:48:06 PM crdsteele Besides family meals, how do you typically celebrate Thanksgiving with the residents?
2019-10-15 06:48:21 PM aehutchins This is my first year but I've heard it get chaotic here too

2019-10-15 06:51:40 PM jcox I am MOD this Thanksgiving
2019-10-15 06:52:03 PM bnash we never have to work thanksgiving as a department head
2019-10-15 06:52:15 PM bethaldrich5 Those sounds like wonderful ideas. I will make sure we have the parade set up to watch in the main areas. And I like the idea of movies in the afternoon. I typically work all holidays being the AD, I feel bad asking any of my assistants to work on their holidays. It's pretty neat though because my hubby, kiddos, and parents all know how much our residents mean to me so they join in on the holidays and come in the facility to help me out so my staff doesn't have to.
2019-10-15 06:52:17 PM lamearaj USE THE MOD DAY TO SPEND A MOMENT WITH EACH RESIDENT , IT WILL GO A LONG WAY
2019-10-15 06:52:21 PM kathyhughes We also plan a Scrooge-a-thon for December and whoever attends all of the movies gets a prize and a Scrooge-a-thon Certificate!
2019-10-15 06:52:52 PM sryan thats a fun idea
