2015-08-26 06:03:26 PM elsa smaller areas familiar aces plus you would ave cross training
2015-08-26 06:03:27 PM ryanklemmer Special care that is very personal
2015-08-26 06:03:30 PM roses MEPAP ME1-080415
2015-08-26 06:03:33 PM tiffany1 home like setting
2015-08-26 06:03:40 PM lindac More Familiar
2015-08-26 06:03:41 PM cchase yes tiffany
2015-08-26 06:03:44 PM ryanklemmer The environment seems to be more home-like
2015-08-26 06:03:46 PM cchase home like
2015-08-26 06:03:51 PM elsa they would be familiar with the surroundings and the home like settings
2015-08-26 06:03:58 PM cchase why would that help those with alz's
2015-08-26 06:04:23 PM lindac Thier wouldnt be so much change?
2015-08-26 06:04:28 PM roses Home-like setting
2015-08-26 06:04:37 PM elsa less change in the environment
2015-08-26 06:04:38 PM ryanklemmer Famaliar and comfortable environments are very important when the mind is deteriorating.
2015-08-26 06:04:45 PM chrissyw It makes them less confused, it just feels like they are staying at home.
2015-08-26 06:04:50 PM janfred73 they would feel more calm and relaxed. Less anxiety
2015-08-26 06:04:51 PM cchase so routine is important to those with Alz's correct??
2015-08-26 06:04:52 PM tiffany1 keeping them in a routine that they are used to at home
2015-08-26 06:04:57 PM lindac RIght
2015-08-26 06:04:59 PM jennc yes very important!
2015-08-26 06:05:04 PM elsa yes

2015-08-26 06:05:41 PM ryanklemmer Yes
2015-08-26 06:05:50 PM cchase let's discuss what you would do for programming for that green house with Alz's pts
2015-08-26 06:05:51 PM lmv1970 I'm sorry to ask this, is this chat just starting
2015-08-26 06:05:54 PM lindaz enter the chat room

2015-08-26 06:06:34 PM lmv1970 Thanks,
2015-08-26 06:06:36 PM janfred73 music
2015-08-26 06:06:43 PM ryanklemmer Baking is a regular joy that stimulates many senses
2015-08-26 06:06:47 PM cchase yes music, so important
2015-08-26 06:06:52 PM jennc i would incorporate daily household activities in the greenhouse like cooking, folding, etc
2015-08-26 06:06:54 PM cchase sensory
2015-08-26 06:06:57 PM elsa games
2015-08-26 06:07:07 PM lindac Helping out in the house?
2015-08-26 06:07:09 PM lmv1970 do the alzheimer patients get over stimulated by the music?
2015-08-26 06:07:13 PM cchase let's talk about those chores
2015-08-26 06:07:13 PM janfred73 small groups to help prepare meals
2015-08-26 06:07:31 PM elsa familiar games like the ones they use to play chess checkers dominos family dinners
2015-08-26 06:07:34 PM janfred73 my alz residents like music
2015-08-26 06:07:35 PM cchase how do you see them staying on task
2015-08-26 06:07:48 PM jennc working alongside the staff
2015-08-26 06:07:48 PM lindaz The right music is very important
2015-08-26 06:07:54 PM tinab enter the chat room
2015-08-26 06:07:57 PM lmv1970 hmm. Thats neat. What type of music
2015-08-26 06:07:57 PM ryanklemmer Through continual gentle guidance.
2015-08-26 06:07:58 PM janfred73 meals with simple steps?
2015-08-26 06:08:15 PM lmv1970 Have you heard of a Green house setting?
2015-08-26 06:08:16 PM chrissyw We have a resident that loooves putting sock together.
2015-08-26 06:08:16 PM tiffany1 There is a music program specialized for Alz.
2015-08-26 06:08:26 PM cchase later stage alz's will try to eat small items so watch out for those checkers -okay??
2015-08-26 06:08:30 PM lmv1970 oh, Wyoming is so behind
2015-08-26 06:08:39 PM elsa ok
2015-08-26 06:08:43 PM lmv1970 We do hand massages
2015-08-26 06:08:50 PM cchase socks are fantastic
2015-08-26 06:08:54 PM tiffany1 Use fruit loops for checkers
2015-08-26 06:08:56 PM jennc i have a resident who I give a her a duster and she roams around the lobby dusting everything in sight and feels a sense of accomplishment
2015-08-26 06:08:56 PM roses Perhaps more individualized depending on the resident. If music was a large part of life in younger years, then it would be very beneficial. It can be that there are multiple neuro-pathways so as the disease progresses, much can be retained or retrieved because there was more than one pathway. Really cool how thAT WORKS.
2015-08-26 06:08:59 PM lmv1970 folding them?
2015-08-26 06:09:00 PM janfred73 In the earlier part of the day they like more upbeat music, mostly from the 50's, later in the day we play soft music
2015-08-26 06:09:11 PM lindac Folding
2015-08-26 06:09:12 PM elsa i would ask them to help me fold clothing or napkins
2015-08-26 06:09:15 PM jennc we also fold dishtowels and fold the napkins for meals
2015-08-26 06:09:22 PM lmv1970 neat
2015-08-26 06:09:32 PM cchase yes folding - but what if they forgot to fold??
2015-08-26 06:09:54 PM lmv1970 can you manipulate? Hand over hand?
2015-08-26 06:09:57 PM elsa i would do it with them in a step by step maner so they could watch me do it
2015-08-26 06:09:57 PM lindac WOuld we have a problem with surveyors if they helped our laundry department?
2015-08-26 06:10:08 PM cchase hand over hand is very good
2015-08-26 06:10:10 PM jennc we work with them or we pair them with a "buddy" that is on track
2015-08-26 06:10:13 PM ryanklemmer It can seem strange having residents do household chores as activities, but this seems perfectly appropriate for Alzheimer's residents.
2015-08-26 06:10:23 PM janfred73 We just did a project stringing fruit loops on yarn and hung them on the trees for the birds. They were very pretty and had a lot of fun. They ate lots too. Squirrels liked them more than the birds
2015-08-26 06:10:24 PM roses hELP THEM REMEMBER A SKILL BY ATTACHING IT TO ANOTHER SKILL THAt they may remember.
2015-08-26 06:10:26 PM lindaz You should play instrumental music during meals not ones that require residents to remember words. This way they can "Feel" the music and not try to concentrate on lyrics.
2015-08-26 06:10:55 PM cchase yes very appropriate for alz's to do house keeping
2015-08-26 06:11:03 PM elsa not if its in the care plan that they are helping the laundry department as a way to stimulate there minds am i wrong??
2015-08-26 06:11:07 PM cchase keep it simple - dusting is a good one
2015-08-26 06:11:13 PM cchase no wrong way to dust
2015-08-26 06:11:17 PM lmv1970 I saw a video on a man playing the piano, it triggered his memory into being able to become verbal while he was playing. It was amazing
2015-08-26 06:11:35 PM tiffany1 The program we use has different music for the day. Also includeds sundowning
2015-08-26 06:11:39 PM jennc i also give residents a spray bottle with water and they wipe down things
2015-08-26 06:11:46 PM ryanklemmer From my experience, fun exercise programs work great.
2015-08-26 06:11:53 PM lmv1970 I didn't realize alzheimers took their mobility too
2015-08-26 06:12:05 PM tinab you cWe use individual ipods for some of our residents
2015-08-26 06:12:13 PM cchase our facility would most like not allow them to do laundry
2015-08-26 06:12:17 PM tiffany1 I use a program called Seatworks
2015-08-26 06:12:18 PM lindaz We do chair tai chi very relaxing
2015-08-26 06:12:25 PM tinab Sorry I can't see my text box to check spelling
2015-08-26 06:12:35 PM roses Music and language/Math stored in similar parts of the brain.
2015-08-26 06:12:47 PM cchase it's a questions of infection control
2015-08-26 06:12:55 PM chrissyw Another alz patient likes to help me pass out mail. They like having a "job" to do.
2015-08-26 06:13:11 PM cchase mail is terrific indeed
2015-08-26 06:13:19 PM tiffany1 we also have them help me with the newsletters.
2015-08-26 06:13:34 PM cchase no names on the envelope so they always give out the right one
2015-08-26 06:13:44 PM tiffany1 decorating my activity boards
2015-08-26 06:14:09 PM cchase okay so let's discuss "failure proof" activities - what does that mean??
2015-08-26 06:14:38 PM janfred73 something they can do that's always right no matter how its done?
2015-08-26 06:14:45 PM roses No right or wrong way to do it.
2015-08-26 06:14:46 PM lindac Activities that are proven to be a hit?
2015-08-26 06:14:54 PM tinab they all feel; valued and they can't do it wrong
2015-08-26 06:15:03 PM ryanklemmer I agree with all
2015-08-26 06:15:15 PM cchase right!! it's always right - they can actually accomplish it
2015-08-26 06:15:34 PM cchase keep that in mind when thinking of activities/things for them to do
2015-08-26 06:15:54 PM ryanklemmer That's good to know.
2015-08-26 06:16:13 PM tinab art is always good
2015-08-26 06:16:15 PM cchase it's also good to finish the project - gives a sense of completion
2015-08-26 06:16:29 PM tinab makes sense
2015-08-26 06:16:34 PM tiffany1 I agree
2015-08-26 06:16:38 PM lindac Sounds Right
2015-08-26 06:16:49 PM ryanklemmer So singing works well in the camp?
2015-08-26 06:16:56 PM lmv1970 I did one today with dried flowers and the fellow tried to eat them
2015-08-26 06:16:56 PM cchase so let's discuss the illness - ready??
2015-08-26 06:17:02 PM jennc ready!

2015-08-26 06:17:28 PM cchase can you tell me what is happening in the brain??
2015-08-26 06:17:41 PM lmv1970 it's a misfire isn't it?
2015-08-26 06:17:42 PM elsa redirect them to the garden or ask if they want company on there walk
2015-08-26 06:17:46 PM sylvia14 Hello Chase,Is Sylvia it might sound stupid but is this MEI or II?
2015-08-26 06:17:55 PM cchase leaving - as i departing??
2015-08-26 06:18:00 PM cchase Hey sylvia
2015-08-26 06:18:09 PM tinab I ask where they are goin
2015-08-26 06:18:15 PM roses Sing "I'm Leaving. on a Jet Plane"....
2015-08-26 06:18:16 PM lindac She's alwys saying she's going to her home town
2015-08-26 06:18:16 PM tinab going
2015-08-26 06:18:16 PM ryanklemmer I believe plaque builds up within the brain which causes it to not function properly.

2015-08-26 06:18:19 PM lindaz The spaces in the brain become larger almost causing it to shrink

2015-08-26 06:19:49 PM lmv1970 I thought it was only memory
2015-08-26 06:19:51 PM janfred73 I usually try to get them refocused on something else. We have a guy thats always going to the airport
2015-08-26 06:19:58 PM roses Yes, plaques and tangles. Signals don't continue past gaps the way they should.
2015-08-26 06:20:00 PM cchase let's think of the brain like a computer
2015-08-26 06:20:10 PM lindaz All body functions require the brain
