2016-03-01 07:05:20 PM kathym junemaree when they begin to understand why this test is necessary, they will change their minds because they came to be involved with the residents.

2016-03-01 07:06:14 PM xninfax we do "cowboy breakfast" in our city free breakfast early in the morning for whoever wants to come. and my moms facility did a mini cowboy breakfast and had such a great turnout
2016-03-01 07:06:17 PM kgates We have a lot of regulations too. But once they are in they take a lot of upkeep, I was having a difficult time organizing and call backs and meetings with them that I asked for help. I felt like we wern't serving our volunteers at all. So prayers were answered and I have a guy who is putting it all in order. Phone numbers, addresses, emails and calling each one to find out how things are going and getting a feel of what they are wanting to do. Eventually I will be able to call him and say hey can you get me two volunteers to help me with this party or that garage sale? I can't wait, the training has been ongoing but its finally coming together. YEAH
2016-03-01 07:06:19 PM summermurphy What I have found out about volunteers is that you have to help them interact, introduce them to others, help them get involved and make them feel comfortable in the surroundings.
2016-03-01 07:06:20 PM johne We have a huge list of volunteers at my facility and in April we are having a big banquet in their honor

2016-03-01 07:10:02 PM jennyw Today was the primary's for my state (Massachusetts) and I've spent the last 2 months getting the absentee ballots ready for voting just wondering what everyone else has been doing for absentee ballots for the residents.
2016-03-01 07:10:04 PM tlgst16 Something that we're doing for Easter this year is through a program called "Rent the Chicken" they're in several states. They bring in an incubater and several eggs and teach the residents how to take care of them. We get to hatch the baby chicks for Easter and will have them for two weeks for sensory stimulation.

2016-03-01 07:11:28 PM summermurphy A 1-1 that I used was window watching. Discussing what they see and their six senses in terms of they may not be able to hear or feel what they see but what they perceive it to sound like or feel like based on what they see... I thought it was a pretty simple and neat 1-1 activity.

I show them around the building and where things are. After their background check has gone through I call them to let them know. Then I call my volunteer coordinator or email him the information about that volunteer and what they will be doing for our facility. Then he takes over and does the return calls and any additional training. We're hopeing he will eventually put together our annual volunteer program, of course we'll be there but at a different level. It takes a lot of trust but I think its going to be good.
