2019-10-29 06:08:54 PM bethaldrich5 That idea actually came from a few of our LNA's I cant take credit for it. Our Advanced LNA's have to do some sort of "project" with the residents off their LNA hours once a year in order to maintain their Advanced LNA status. A couple of the LNA's chose this for their project.
2019-10-29 06:08:54 PM kathyhughes Do the families help?

2019-10-29 06:09:56 PM juliecormier For Nov 11th Veterns Ceromony consists of what?
2019-10-29 06:10:20 PM bpasdon we dont have much family involvement. Its not a bad thing though becuase our day program is respit for the families. It allows them to work, have time to themselves and sometimes it can be unproductive for them to be there due to the clients becoming distracted. We have 2 family days a month though, which involves coffee and a light snack at the end of the day
2019-10-29 06:10:31 PM paularjones (y)
2019-10-29 06:10:32 PM emilynb1 Veterans and war brides sit up front of the ceremony. we do a lot of readings, wreath laying, hear a few songs

2019-10-29 06:10:55 PM bpasdon 90% of our clients live with family, about 10% live in group homes
2019-10-29 06:11:27 PM regina1 is this the first time taking the Fire truck and ladder bpsadon? I like that for the residents :-)

2019-10-29 06:15:19 PM kathyhughes I worked in the facility for 30 years
2019-10-29 06:15:38 PM bpasdon I must say Kathy i figured you worked in Adult Day Before becuase you have been really wonderful about me modifying the assignments that are geared toward Nursing Facilities, as we dont really have alot of what they do. I thank you for that

2019-10-29 06:16:52 PM kathyhughes How many residents did you have Stephanie?
2019-10-29 06:16:56 PM bpasdon Im amazed at how many participants some of you have at your facilities
2019-10-29 06:16:59 PM bethaldrich5 This is crazy to hear all of these stories. We are just a small skilled to long term care private facility with a max of 53 beds.
2019-10-29 06:17:19 PM regina1 I miss the CNA side of healthcare-Im still certified so I can fill in if needed
2019-10-29 06:17:26 PM kathyhughes We had lots of beds but we had 160 people who lived with us
2019-10-29 06:17:55 PM angelalgreathouse I work in long term care in the alzhemiers and dementia unit for 14 yrs and in activities for 1. I did the morning activities on unit before i moved to the activities department
2019-10-29 06:18:10 PM lamearaj ME TOO, I JUMP ON THE FLOOR TIME TO TIME TO HELP OUT SINCE IM A CNA ALSO
2019-10-29 06:18:11 PM bethaldrich5 I guess I shouldnt say beds. We have a few more beds than that so we can flexibility with room changes. We have a max census of 53.
2019-10-29 06:18:12 PM sryan i would say prbly 60 are long term
2019-10-29 06:18:21 PM bpasdon We dont have beds. We are speciafically A day program. Socilization and Medical Needs Met. Activities is the main part of our clients day though. So i try my hardest to make my clietns happy, i feel like we do well
2019-10-29 06:18:24 PM juliecormier We have about 47 AL residents and 9 in memory care so we are also small. I dont see how some of you did all the activities yourselves.
2019-10-29 06:18:25 PM paularjones wow thats a lot of beds... we hold residents
2019-10-29 06:18:41 PM emilynb1 we have 218 nursing home residents, including 25 in "safe" environment. we also have assisted living attached and an adult day home. and independent living across the street.
2019-10-29 06:18:56 PM sryan we have alot of peope come in and out. we are very fast pace. we can get 8 admit a day
2019-10-29 06:18:59 PM angelalgreathouse i am the same way i have keep my cna license and still help out as needed. picking up shifts and also doing transports for the facility
2019-10-29 06:19:00 PM kathyhughes We had residents who lived in the facility we did not count them as beds
2019-10-29 06:19:06 PM badalyanlilit I am also working in adult center. Daily attendance is about 95 people
2019-10-29 06:19:36 PM emilynb1 95! wow thats a lot for adult day program!
2019-10-29 06:19:46 PM juliecormier Is there just one person for activities or does staff help?
2019-10-29 06:20:11 PM sryan that what we can hold. of couse they are residents. i dont like when people call them pateints
2019-10-29 06:20:29 PM sryan we have an AD and 3 assistansts
2019-10-29 06:20:39 PM bethaldrich5 We don't count our residents as beds either. When people ask our size we just say 53 beds because that is our max capacity we can fill. We refer to the residents as residents too.
2019-10-29 06:21:01 PM bpasdon But we are located out of a senior center, they allow us to be part of all there activities as well. Tommorow they are throwing a halloween party for the seniors in our city (Its a city of over 52,000 people), and they allow us to bring our day program to the giant hall to join the party. Its $12 a ticket but our clients never pay for a party. DJ and dancing, costume contest, giveaways and a beef tenderloin dinner and dessert. They allow us to be just like everyone else its awesome
2019-10-29 06:21:04 PM lamearaj WE SAY 120, MY BULIDING HOLDS 120
2019-10-29 06:21:08 PM hollybv18 i would love 3 assistants !
2019-10-29 06:21:16 PM badalyanlilit Now, we are waiting also about 20-25 people to come. because our participants are very happy to be in our facility, thjey really appriciate for that. We are trying to do our best
2019-10-29 06:21:27 PM juliecormier Syan the 3 assistants yall have are they full time employees?
2019-10-29 06:21:47 PM paularjones correction we can hold 46 residents lol
2019-10-29 06:22:01 PM sryan my self and another are FT and one is PT
2019-10-29 06:22:05 PM kathyhughes That is great! My Senior Center also invited the local Day care centers1
2019-10-29 06:22:28 PM angelalgreathouse we have 2 full time assistants i part time due to the fact that our activity director is also working in admissions. the admisitator and activity directr or the ones that got me thinking about taking class
2019-10-29 06:22:32 PM bethaldrich5 At our facility we have AD and two assistants. But the assistants are only part time. They work tuesdays to cover the floor while I do care plan meetings and weekends.
2019-10-29 06:22:49 PM kathyhughes See when I retired I started volunteering in facilities and senior centers foing craft programs
2019-10-29 06:22:52 PM bpasdon Awesome
2019-10-29 06:23:03 PM hollybv18 how did that work out kathy?
2019-10-29 06:23:28 PM kathyhughes It has been great!
2019-10-29 06:23:32 PM badalyanlilit Today we were practicing our halloween party but we just invite our participants' reletives, naighbors, friends without payment or tickets
2019-10-29 06:23:42 PM hollybv18 with the kids day care ?
2019-10-29 06:24:00 PM kathyhughes No Senior Center
2019-10-29 06:24:01 PM bpasdon Kathy you should start a facebook page or social media for people to follow your ideas. I do follow the AD network on twitter
2019-10-29 06:24:13 PM badalyanlilit Everything is for free and it is really interesting full of tail heroes
2019-10-29 06:24:15 PM emilynb1 left the chat room
2019-10-29 06:24:32 PM juliecormier Crafts are not my strong area. I like crafts but we do alot of activities and I feel rushed sometimes. I need to get a volunteer and just plan a craft
2019-10-29 06:24:34 PM sryan yesterday we did a murder mystery, play live action clue scavenger hunt. it was so fun
2019-10-29 06:24:36 PM badalyanlilit I agree Kathy
2019-10-29 06:24:37 PM bpasdon Is AD network on Facebook?
2019-10-29 06:24:39 PM kathyhughes I do contribute to those facebook pages and ADN has a Facebook page as well
2019-10-29 06:24:44 PM bpasdon Oh great!
2019-10-29 06:24:51 PM lamearaj VOLUNTEERS ARE SAVIORS!!!
2019-10-29 06:24:54 PM badalyanlilit Ok
2019-10-29 06:25:13 PM kathyhughes There are several Activities Facebook pages...I can only keep up with some of them
2019-10-29 06:26:04 PM bpasdon im sure
2019-10-29 06:26:35 PM kathyhughes ADN has a page as well as Pinterest Boards
2019-10-29 06:26:45 PM kathyhughes I use the NCCAP Pinterest Boards
2019-10-29 06:26:58 PM juliecormier This is my first year and I feel like Im drowning in all the info but no time to implement the new ideas
2019-10-29 06:27:15 PM angelalgreathouse we get a lot of creative ideas off from activity connection website.
2019-10-29 06:27:47 PM kathyhughes Make a list of the ideas and keep them, there will be time to plan them later on
2019-10-29 06:28:04 PM angelalgreathouse MOst days i feel the same way. lot of new informations and lots to be learned.
2019-10-29 06:28:10 PM badalyanlilit I had been a volunteer in my country at school, and now I thing this kind of work we can't do without a big love and heart to our job and participants. Because we have a pt who always tells me ''my little pawy i love you' 'Me too' i answer him..
2019-10-29 06:28:14 PM lamearaj TAKE NOTES AND YOU CAN USE INFOR OVER TIME,
2019-10-29 06:28:24 PM sryan i love activity connection. i do the calendar on there get all the trivia and alot of ideas
2019-10-29 06:28:29 PM kathyhughes I did not have any of this when I started and would have the residents plan their own activities which always was easier than trying to think things up
2019-10-29 06:28:31 PM lamearaj THATS FOR JULIE
2019-10-29 06:28:39 PM angelalgreathouse me too.
2019-10-29 06:28:45 PM hollybv18 yes , i have a binder with all of my craft ideas
2019-10-29 06:29:08 PM angelalgreathouse we make activity packets for residents from there trivia and puzzles as well as coloring pages
2019-10-29 06:29:14 PM bethaldrich5 Having the residents plan their own activities sounds pretty neat!
2019-10-29 06:29:23 PM bpasdon may i ask everyone if they deal with staff burnout? SO for instance, Our CNA's are my activity assitant, so many times they are multi tasking and get frustarted very easy. They are quick to shutdown activities if they dont go perfect the first time. Anyone deal with this?
2019-10-29 06:29:27 PM kathyhughes And once the computer kicked in I still had the residents plan their own activities
2019-10-29 06:29:52 PM sryan we do calendar planning with the residents for the next month. print out the act connection for the month and they pick what they want.
2019-10-29 06:29:57 PM angelalgreathouse it is. their faces light up and get some much input from them.
2019-10-29 06:30:08 PM bethaldrich5 Ohhh an activity packet sounds like a neat idea as well!!
2019-10-29 06:30:17 PM badalyanlilit ok
2019-10-29 06:30:22 PM kathyhughes Staff needs to be educated on how to do activities...sometimes they need to know that it is ok to try something else
2019-10-29 06:30:28 PM kathyhughes and to have a Plan B
2019-10-29 06:30:45 PM badalyanlilit we always have a plane B
2019-10-29 06:30:46 PM angelalgreathouse we use it as an idenpendent activity for them. they really ejoy having them and never one left at end of week
2019-10-29 06:30:49 PM juliecormier I get alot of ideas from this chat and yes I dont want to burn out. I do like the idea to let the residents chose. I get some ideas in Resident Counsel
2019-10-29 06:30:57 PM hollybv18 we have a activities planning committee, the residents help with ideas of what they want for parties
2019-10-29 06:30:59 PM lamearaj TOTALLY AGRE, ALL MY ACTIVITIES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE'
2019-10-29 06:31:06 PM kathyhughes CNA's are task oriented and not that creative and do not have the "tools" to change mid stream
2019-10-29 06:31:09 PM regina1 I have seen it in the past years, but then I come across many CNA's who enjoy doing the activities with the resident's.
2019-10-29 06:31:43 PM buddyrmorvent I am often pleasantly suprised by what an activity morphs into. :)
2019-10-29 06:32:09 PM kathyhughes We sometimes assume that everyone has the skills to do activities but they do not have the skills
2019-10-29 06:32:53 PM kathyhughes The CNa's who can do activities should be considered when there is an opening in activities
2019-10-29 06:33:14 PM kathyhughes We have to educaate staff on how to do activities and engage the residents
2019-10-29 06:33:15 PM bpasdon yes well saif
2019-10-29 06:33:18 PM bpasdon said*
2019-10-29 06:33:21 PM regina1 agreed
2019-10-29 06:33:28 PM juliecormier I agree
2019-10-29 06:33:29 PM sryan yes that is soooo very true
2019-10-29 06:34:01 PM lamearaj I HAVE 2 CNA'S ON STAND BY FOR WHEN I GET MY CERTIFICATE WHO WANT TO WORK WITH ME WHEN I BECOME A DIRECTOR
2019-10-29 06:34:14 PM angelalgreathouse :) i agree with you Kathy. I was extremely excited to be given the chance to come inot activities. i do miss working on the floor but i loved activities
2019-10-29 06:34:19 PM lamearaj SOME HAVE A GREAT PASSION, THESE 2 LADIES HAVE IT
2019-10-29 06:34:20 PM hollybv18 thats for sure, do any of you find the cnas annoyed at the activities dept.?
