2016-03-01 07:18:31 PM belindaf our birds make n=many more birds...lol
2016-03-01 07:18:31 PM tlgst16 We have a parrot that we adopted from a former employee.
2016-03-01 07:18:33 PM tonic We haven't had any incidents either.
2016-03-01 07:18:33 PM morgan5115 bird did get out though when we were cleaning it....that was interesting. Our staff caught it and put it back in.

2016-03-01 07:18:35 PM mberroa We also have a fish tank but that is a pain sometimes. The residents in memory care sometimes drop things in there and it has to be kept clean. I'm surprised the fish are still alive.

2016-03-01 07:18:40 PM amber88 jeez..500 seems a little steep

2016-03-01 07:18:52 PM ninajacobs Hay here in Florida we have lots of live cockroaches! hahaha just kidding
2016-03-01 07:19:01 PM kathym johne They are not that hard to maintain if you keep up with it. I have to let the avairy people know of any issues, I give them clean water every week, clean out the old food and give them new food. I recycyle the old food to the birds outdoors. I put a dish in with water so they can get their bath and if one dies I have to call and tell the bird people what kind of bird it was and if male or female. I give them a cut up apple once in a while and a chopped up egg w/ shell for protein and calcium. It does really help with births. So, it is work butit is worth it to the residnts.
2016-03-01 07:19:01 PM xninfax haha yuck
2016-03-01 07:19:03 PM awatts haha

2016-03-01 07:20:49 PM kimj The facility I visited for my practicum had a Livivng Design . I thought it was wonderful, and was told that the residents really enjoy it. Keeping watch for low water or food.

2016-03-01 07:20:53 PM awatts I have only been out one day and my facility called me on loud speaker. All the members wished me to feel better and prayed for me over the phone. I cried. It was so sweet
2016-03-01 07:20:55 PM sue123 We have fish also, my company is tight with budget.

2016-03-01 07:21:05 PM morgan5115 fish tanks were too expensive for my community - we changed the old aquarium into a fairy garden that we decorate monthly
2016-03-01 07:21:05 PM shensle yeah*
2016-03-01 07:21:07 PM tonic We have an aquarium as well, but they like watching the iN2L machine better and feeding the fish.

2016-03-01 07:22:12 PM kmykalw My residents, who typically fall asleep during videoes, were glued!
2016-03-01 07:22:14 PM lynnd Rabbits would be easy to keep, as you can recycle vegetable and fruit scraps and cores you would otherwise throw away, and their poop is a really great natural furtilizer which could benefit the facilitie's grounds or garden
2016-03-01 07:22:16 PM morgan5115 TMC is great for a general channel for the residents
2016-03-01 07:22:18 PM shensle i use my account as well

2016-03-01 07:22:59 PM tiffanyc33 we use a wii for bowling and they love it!!
2016-03-01 07:22:59 PM jackie26 not wii for me they hide the remote
2016-03-01 07:23:05 PM amber88 does anyone have any advice on how to handle stubborn activity aides? i was told in this new facility I am going to that the aides refuse to work evening, but for a couple days I need evening activities because its a state regulation. I need to tell them that the hours are changing but I dont want to be mean and nasty about it if they refuse

2016-03-01 07:23:10 PM jennyw I love the fish tank idea but I don't think I'd be able to get one in my facility
2016-03-01 07:23:11 PM ninajacobs I had one resident who threw her dog of 15 years into the trash....

2016-03-01 07:23:40 PM amber88 week 5..seems like so long ago...lol
2016-03-01 07:23:40 PM kgates There were some concerns about some volunteers not having to have a back ground check or tb, Requirements for background checks: Everyone 18-up must have a background check under 18 a parental consent. for the tb screening it is the same as employees, it is required unless you have a medical dr sign something that says you have an allergy to the test. So basically everyone has to have everything unless they are under 18 with a parental consent.
2016-03-01 07:23:41 PM morgan5115 they don't seem right for the community. staff always needs to put residents first
2016-03-01 07:23:42 PM theresar We used to have Wii until the TVs were changed out. The controls were very hard for the residents to use. They couldn't get the concept of holding down a button, moving their arm, and then releasing.
2016-03-01 07:23:45 PM maribel prices right is good too bcs they like to watch it in the mornings
2016-03-01 07:23:46 PM skershaw i have a stubbor activity aid too

2016-03-01 07:23:53 PM jackie26 yes amber
2016-03-01 07:23:55 PM awatts we had a member break it
2016-03-01 07:23:56 PM amber88 a few of my residents would be so sad if we got rid of the wii...
2016-03-01 07:23:58 PM kathyhughes Amber I would simply say to them that they have to cover week nights and weekends
2016-03-01 07:24:00 PM shensle stubborn is never good
2016-03-01 07:24:02 PM jaiken Aides help with activities? Are you kidding? The only time I see our aides is out in the parking lot on a smoke break! Seriously!
2016-03-01 07:24:09 PM jackie26 i have a lazy aid
2016-03-01 07:24:10 PM johne Is there any wii games that you don't have to move the controller and push A or B at the same time
2016-03-01 07:24:11 PM kathyhughes then they can come up with a schedule
2016-03-01 07:24:20 PM kathyhughes and thats the way it is
2016-03-01 07:24:23 PM kathym We like to show funny pet videos oon you tube. How about the one with the daog that looks likes he's talking and his owner is tempthing with a lot of good food? FUNNY!!!!!!
2016-03-01 07:24:23 PM junemaree lol
2016-03-01 07:24:23 PM kimj In the spring , our residents and Hospice get together and decorate kites, with markers, stickers. then we will go outside in the side yard and fly them. Residents loved this. It was kind of like a memorial for loved ones who have passed. We put the names on the kites.
2016-03-01 07:24:25 PM morgan5115 thats a good idea
2016-03-01 07:24:29 PM amandaw Amber when I started I had to do the same and had an aide quit

2016-03-01 07:24:39 PM lynnd In CA, the volunteers don't have to be fingerprinted unless they come in more than 16 hours a week.
2016-03-01 07:24:40 PM shensle especially when all are sun downing at the same time!
2016-03-01 07:24:41 PM michellep007 Amber, just tell them they all have to share equally the night shifts. Speak to them as youd like to be spoken to, but be firm. I know it's hard to do.
2016-03-01 07:24:45 PM kmykalw You might be better off without that aide, its ounds like
2016-03-01 07:24:45 PM lolita47 my residents get fustrated at wii

2016-03-01 07:25:02 PM sue123 amber88... she will probably complain to Admin , so talk to him/her first and explain why you need night activity then have him talk to her.
2016-03-01 07:25:05 PM ninajacobs Wii is low on our list at the moment
2016-03-01 07:25:14 PM theresar @jaiken: concur on the aides smoking....and we only have a few that go out of their way to help transport residents. I'm always trying to convince them that if they help, I'm taking the residents off their hands for a while.
2016-03-01 07:25:17 PM belindaf i bought a gian bowling set like beach ball my res love it
2016-03-01 07:25:17 PM chelcia left the chat room

We have brand new facility- it is gorgeous! We're 1/2 full and residents are wanting to leave due to poor care and go back to a 50-yr old facility. Suggestions?
